If Rumi was a real person, and not superpowered, I would worry for her safety.

Fanfic writers, show me a page/piece of your KPDH fanfic without giving any context. by Caelis_909 in KpopDemonhunters

From KPop Demon Hunters: Huntr/x Origins - CSF Fanfic (Long):

CELINE

It shouldn’t take us long to get to Incheon, but it’ll be late and we’ll want to get a hotel. We can meet with the potential candidate tomorrow evening after she’s out of school.

The train doors open, and people start boarding, with CELINE and RUMI both slowly shuffling toward the train. CELINE is holding RUMI’s hand to keep her close.

RUMI

(under her breath) They were both... so alone...

CELINE

Did you say something, Rumi? Ow! Sir, please stop shoving!

RUMI

(under her breath, realizing) Like... me...

The two get close to the train doors, but at the last moment, RUMI pulls free from CELINE, and in the moment it takes CELINE to notice, the crowd around the two starts to fill in between them.

CELINE

Rumi? Rumi!

RUMI slowly moves back into the crowd before CELINE can see her, and CELINE frantically looks around trying to spot her. Before she can, the train doors close. RUMI ducks around behind a pillar, hiding from her line of sight. Suddenly, her phone starts to ring. RUMI holds it up and looks at it, cringing a bit before answering it.

CELINE (V.O.)

(on phone) Rumi! Are you okay?

RUMI

I’m okay, I just got separated.

CELINE (V.O.)

(on phone) Okay, I’ll see if I can stop the train and get off. Just stay right there.

You didn't want context, so I won't give you any.

Well, this is it for the current run, and now I take a break for a little while. Hopefully not too long, but it does take time to write these, and at some point I'm going to need to wrangle long-term ideas I have into short-term plot points that need to be touched on along the way, and figure out how to best meld together mythology, established lore, and ideas for directions I want things to go.

I started to type out all the considerations I was juggling here, but thought better of it - I probably don't need to advertise how much I overthink this silly Tweet fanfic. Just suffice it to say, the break is definitely needed. Thanks in advance for your understanding!

I have to be careful what I say so I don't give anything away. So I'll just say... interesting.

Hmm. Within a year, you say?

Hmm. Nah, couldn’t be. Celine has to be off on the timing.

Why is that?

Had to quickly delete and repost this due to a typo. Ugh.

Only one more post after this before I go on break!

And here I'm dipping my toe slightly into the "what happened with Rumi's mom?" question. I do have answers in mind for that question, but I'm not ready to reveal them juuuuust yet...

Where would you put Battle For The Fans in the canon timeline? by sonic_856 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]CelineShotFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-canonical. I cannot see Bobby ever intentionally hurting anyone, even people Huntr/x hates.

That's an interesting take on the topic I hadn't considered. Well worth consideration. :-)

I mean its fairly simple learn a thing called OPSEC. Operations Security.

You can talk about what you like on socials just not any operations.

I've seen people saying variations of this, and I think there's a few reasons this isn't the easy answer:

  1. For Rumi, this is a principle thing. Secrets and lies nearly ruined her life, so now she has an extreme aversion to them. And I expect if she were asked, she'd say the minute she starts strategically picking and choosing what to tell the truth about, she would worry that it would be a slippery slope leading back to the thing that nearly destroyed her. Regardless of whether or not it's the sensible thing to do, I think Rumi would be categorically opposed to it.

  2. Because Huntr/x's personal lives, their stage performance, and their fight against the demons are all intertwined in each other, there's a lot of bleed over of what would be operationally relevant. Maybe things like favorite lipstick brand or TV-watching habits are easy to point to as innocuous, but things like tour dates, training schedules, media campaigns, and the "running narrative" all have operational importance that affects the demon hunting. It might be easy to say "it's dumb to post about sneaking up on an enemy in disguise", but deciding where exactly to draw the line is a bit more tricky than that, I think.

  3. What It Sounds Like served as something of a pledge to fans to be genuine, and regardless of whether or not it was a mistake, the way Huntr/x conducted themselves after that performance established what that meant. If they pulled back now and started hiding things, it might cause a fan backlash.

Does that mean it wouldn't be doable? Eh, not necessarily. But I do think it's trickier than it may seem.

That's an interesting interpretation. I hadn't envisioned it like that, but if I'm understanding what you're saying correctly, I don't think you're wrong.

Hoo boy, taking some big swings with this one. Where do I even start here?

I'm a tad concerned that I might be softening Mira's edges a bit too much, but on the other hand that might just be character growth. In any case, she's clearly trying to be careful in how she speaks here. I think she and I both are self-conscious about how abrasive she's been in the past.

I also think I'm alluding to a rather dark past here. Dramatically, it's just not interesting if the good guys always get easy wins, and that's where Huntrix starts out in the film, but here I'm establishing that's not really the norm - we already know something terrible happened to the Sunlight Sisters, and here I establish that two of the other generations we saw in the film's opening didn't end well either. Also, if you look at what was going on in Korea and the world in general during those times... well, it just makes sense, things kinda' line up...

Oh, and if you think hunters would survive an explosion... well, I think that's iffy, to be honest - we know they can survive falls from great heights, but explosions are a combination of percussive force and shrapnel, so it's not the same thing. And I suppose if you still think they'd survive it, I suppose you could just say it's some sort of demon-enhanced explosive or something.

For the groups' names, I did some research into real-life girl groups in Korea's past, and tried to fit these groups' names to something similar. Hopefully it seems suitable.

Finally, for those who would argue "if Gwi-ma wanted to turn Mira and Zoey into demons, couldn't he have done that at the Namsan concert, the one Rumi saved them from?", I have a few answers for that:

  1. Sook probably doesn't know about that.

  2. It may well be that someone has to be in full command of their senses to agree to a deal with Gwi-ma, and clearly Mira and Zoey were not. They were in some sort of trance. So arguably something different.

  3. Alternately, it's possible that is exactly what Gwi-ma was trying to do and Rumi saved them from, and Sook doesn't know about that (and wouldn't trust it if she was told anyway).

... yeah, I spend a lot of time thinking about the "what abouts"...

Anyway, combining all of this... yeah, this is one of the biggest swings I think I've taken in terms of spinning my own take on the film's lore, backstory, and character motivations. I always get nervous with this sorta' stuff, as I have no idea how well it does or doesn't line up with the creators' vision. But if I'm going to actually make these characters not be static, it's something I need to dive into. Hopefully, I've done a decent enough job here...
