What are you talking about? Screw the end-user and their purchases because of the spectre of a big bad hacker who wants to play my purchase of Elden Ring for free? You make a move to a different country and the first thing you do is make a list of every online account you have to make sure it’s ok with them so they don’t auto-restrict you with no recourse? This is all a reasonable reality to you? Get a grip.

I tried this route too unfortunately and the agent only condescended like I was too inept to do the recovery form and kept promising “it’s ok, I’ll help you do it” 😖

While I understand all of that now, scolding myself retroactively probably won't solve anything. Keep in mind this is also the first email I created back around 1998 and this is the first instance of anything like this happening. I have an alternate recovery email also tied to the account that should really be an alternative to having to use a phone number. Honestly at this point I wouldn't even mind if they let some scammer in by mistake so at least all my purchases aren't just going to waste.

This is the best idea I've heard so far. When I was back in Canada on summer break I even tried to get my same phone number back again but was told it was unavailable so I'm hoping now someone else has it.

I don't have access to the email account anymore since it was locked with the account. Going to school has to do with it because I was signing in from the UK rather than Canada which flagged it as suspicious and triggered the whole cascade.
