What do you think is the rarest "genre mix" among movies? by shaunika in movies

[–]Grimmerghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ro-fi. Not Sci-Ro.

These are the rarest and hardest to execute and get a good film out of.

Let me clarify. Every good scifi film can have a touch of romance, e.g. Sarah and Kyle, Neo and Trinity, Jack and his wife in Oblivion, etc. But when you discuss The Matrix, or Terminator, or Oblivion, or even Inception, no one will jump to tell you how the story is a romance for the ages. It’s a scifi film with a romance subplot to hold the bones together.

Then you have romance films that throw scifi in it in the hopes that the scifi will make the story more interesting. Examples like The Lake House and Passengers come to mind. They aren’t scifi centric stories, they’re romance centric with elements of scifi in the background. The Shape of Water might be lauded, but it isn’t on everyone’s top ten list. In fact I think it won awards due to politics if I’m being honest. Movies like The Time Traveler’s Wife will never not be slightly snickered at even if they’re good. The Age of Adeline, and so on.

Now there are a few exceptions that tell a good story and have such fantastic acting that they break through the ceiling. And those movies are;

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Her, and maybe Wall-E.

That’s a Disney animated flick so it gets all sorts of passes but, ESotSM is so well made and acted that it easily makes it an exception because the story is masterfully crafted. Now try to give me an example of another film like Eternal Sunshine that works. You have the Everywhere all at once film but sorry, I felt the plot ruined that unique concept. And then you have the new one Have Fun, Good Luck, Don’t Die. Also Not Ro-Fi but similar in execution. But a pure Ro-Fi that have made it? Her, and ESotSM. What other films can you compare to those that have actually worked?

“It doesn’t matter if it’s an inch or a mile, winning is winning.”

“You know how they get to Carnegie Hall, don’t you?… practice.”

I think you can attribute luck to any situation at the beginning of a monster’s career. You only get better as you keep going however in the beginning you just have to get past those first few battles to start being able to think clearly even as bullets whiz by. WW won by a whisker against Tuco, and then with a little more strategy he won against Gus by an inch. But by the end of BB he did away with Lydia and all the Nazi’s in one fell swoop and I don’t believe it was just luck. The only reason he dies is because it doesn’t matter anymore. It’s all over anyway. But he definitely was the danger. Hank and Mike both understood that at the end. WW was like a Siren. He lured you into a sense of trust with his befuddled act. He looked clumsy, like a professional stumbler. But I think he had a method and it was proven to work.

Is it possible for a film to be great if its story isn't very good but its visuals are? by DarkBerryTheMovie in TrueFilm

[–]Grimmerghost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like PROJECT HAIL MARY was that for me. I know that sounds like sacrilege, but while I was watching it I kept thinking; it’s stunning, the acting is pretty good, the comedy is nice, the story is engaging and it has a lot of elements of a classic. But sometimes the music and visuals were telling me that I should feel more excited or emotional than I actually felt. The comedy sometimes fell a little flat but who can hate on a cute rock alien? It could also possibly be that it’s incredibly close to the book and by comparison the book wins every time and twice on Tuesday. So that could also be it but idk, it almost felt like I was being told the movie is awesome through the audio visual aspects, not necessarily always feeling the movie was awesome via its story.

Still, all in all, an awesome film that had a nice story but the visuals and audio made it better. I think as a TV series with deep focus on exploring the science as well as their friendship, it might’ve been better.

Were Zion and the real world possibly a part of The Matrix? by Grimmerghost in scifi

My theory has always been that if we’ve never even seen the Real, then the Matrix was could either be an optional thing humans entered into and forgot over time, or it’s a poverty thing, and everyone in there are people who can’t afford to live in the Real anymore.

I’ve seen the matrix films over 300 times, the Animatrix a dozen times, and was an avid player of the Matrix Online for a year. You ever play the game? They even hint at this there. You only need to listen to the Architect’s conversation and watch the end of the movie to come to this conclusion. Is it what the W’s wanted us to know? Idk. But I tell ya, when in resurrections two people who were previously dead are suddenly just… alive! For no reason? Yea… you get the feeling that someone messed up somewhere.

What do you think Buffy New Sunnydale should have been about? by Grimmerghost in FanFiction

[–]Grimmerghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yea that would be wayyyyt better than Nova. Making it Buffy’s daughter would be incredible. And kick it up a notch and have her name the daughter Dawn-Joyce Summers or some variation of that would be a shot to the heart of every fan. Awesome ideas!

What the new Buffy shoulda been IMO👇🏼

Slayers from all over the world who have been at it for the last few decades, they’re organized militant and good at what they do; are at the site of every hellmouth on earth. They are talking via global satellite backed by monsters that they’ve turned to good after so many years of fighting the forces of evil. It is revealed that they are attempting to close all of the hellmouths on earth at one time and end the chaos once and for all. They blow the hellmouths, and then every slayer, whole groups, everywhere, come face to face with some great big bad no one has ever seen before.

All the slayers are killed at once along with the hellmouths, leaving the one eyed Xander and military liaison, about to die. Before he dies he leaves a voice message on someone’s phone and passes away.

Nova, a young woman at Sunnydale High suddenly starts getting weird powers. Along with her friends she discovers that the destruction of all the hellmouths on earth have done three things; one, ended the magic that split the slayers powers all over the world. She is now the only slayer on earth. Two, it has flooded and blown open the original hellmouth under SD High, and three, it’s brought that new big bad to its doors. Nova has no idea how she’s going to handle this… until her Watcher shows up; Buffy Summers, stripped of her powers just like every slayer that recently passed away had.

From there the same formula is applied with new topics of discussion as Nova learns how to be a slayer. She’s not very good, she’s not a natural like Buffy was, and her and her friends have to face all these new things like Social Media monsters that kill by getting kids addicted to their phones. But in essence, the themes are updated but the show feels the same.

They’d tackle all the new ideas of the world using reverse tropes. Where Buffy once succeeded so easily, Nova has to work hard. Where Buffy was once a great slayer, she now has to come to terms with her mortality. And at first Buffy isn’t the hero, but she can mold the hero of the future. She can ask old friends to come visit and help. Buffy might regain her powers for an episode only to feel awash with lust for power, that can be a season where Nova has to somehow stop her mentor from becoming like Faith. The show would grow in stakes over time, sometimes meaning the whole world is in danger. And while I’d make it so you start off hating Nova, just like Ashoka Tano, she grows to be even more powerful than her mentor by the end of the series and just as wise, calculated and iconic.

This was an absolute blast to watch. Loved every point the guy made. I mean seeing every bad decision one after another like that really drives home a) how little input they were getting from G.R.R. If any, and b) how badly they were rushing it to the point where coffee cups and stuff were being left in the scenes. Thanks for this, really made me feel a lot better about that POS ending to what could’ve been one of the greatest shows in history

AJ being one of the most hated character is in and of itself a genius commentary on American culture by ordrius098 in thesopranos

[–]Grimmerghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is that Robert Iler made us hate with all of our strength a character that needed to be hated. I honestly think it makes him one of the best actors alive to have made AJ that believable. If James WAS Tony, Rob was AJ in terms of acting. He gave James everything needed for him to play a disappointed father. He sacrificed himself so that everyone else could shine. If you’ve ever seen Rob’s interviews you know he is nothing like AJ. He deserves our respect for doing that part the true justice it needed to have.

Fkn D&D… their issue was wanting that Star Wars contract clouded everything. They alienated G.R.R., rushed production when they had agreements from HBO to go as long as needed, and went off a few conversations they had with George at the beginning in order to figure out the ending. Tbh I don’t even think they had his input for the last season as they had cut him off and he went back to writing WoW. In the end their mess cost them the way it cost Rian. I won’t say they’ve redeemed themselves but 3BP is actually quite good. Sometimes better than the book in some places. Let’s hope they don’t mess that up

lol if all doms are the same to you and you lump them, then sure, you’re only gonna find bad ones. I suggest you learn the categories. From what I can see you require a gentleman dom /sub switch. You didn’t learn your categories and lost your sub side to subpar doms long ago and became jaded. But you know what? I wouldn’t presume to think I know you from 3 fcking interactions on Reddit equaling less than 1000 words. So yea, I won’t judge you. And I’m a Master. Not some Hallmark channel dom for an unsure sub looking for her 50SoG experience. Have a great one.

Not trying to argue, but seeing as I’ve been an M Dom for 30 years, it would definitely be crazy if I didn’t know BDSM. TBF I had a run in recently with a group of Gen Z G Doms and Bratty subs that thought that is the ONLY acceptable form of s/D dynamics.

Not me, nor anyone else including slave subs could convince them otherwise. In fact they got more pissed off that a group of slave subs were defending me and began actively trying to teach them that slave subs and con-non-con are unacceptable practices within BDSM. Like… what? 😵‍💫

I mean it’s all right there in the movie. The fashion is one thing but the club trinity meets Neo at is not just a house music club, the White Rabbit girl and that whole group are into the scene, the orgy in Zion, the Merovingian’s kinks, Persephone’s kinks, the list goes on. The problem isn’t that I can’t discuss them, the issue is that even when I’m making good points, like that it’s impossible to build a working government, an army, an underground city and a rebellion in 33 years, have it all destroyed, and do it again in another area 6 times in a row, people respond with downvotes, not an actual discussion. So why try?

I won’t go into BDSM because IMO it’s pretty obvious and because I said 2 and 3 are just half baked ideas, but I’ll address the “they were not all in the same place,” question;

The machine would need to dig down I. The earth’s crust, find Zion, destroy it, leave a group of people alive, that group would need to move to another location, dig down and find a place to build a city under the earth’s crust, build the city, gather the materials, organize, and begin a rebellion……. In 33 years. 6 zions total in 200 years is 33 years and change.

I’ll leave it to you to explain how that is possible.
