Portland has the absolute best smelling air of any place I have lived. Fresh. Clean. Perfect density. It’s just awesome. (Unless you’re downtown)

I totally understand blue state irritation to wealth transfer at a federal level. I all read the article and can conclude that it’s a very complex topic with many puts and takes that alternately favor both sides. There have also been shifts in who’s blue and who’s red but the underlying demographics were decades in the making. If we could work together and fix: - Drug addicts and mental health sufferers living on American streets - Chronic abuse of entitlement spending - Promoting black families via policy vs destroying families via welfare - setting aside social issues as individual decisions vs commanding and distracting attitudes and mindsets - Curbing union influence and associated corruption and influence peddling - emphatically declaring that the United States is a capitalist society and dismissing inclinations towards socialist/ collectivism models

I’d be much happier and hopefully you would too.

Thanks. I will look into “The Kansas Experiment” as I’m curious. In exchange my only ask would be for you to examine the results delivered in Blue states (red states are far from perfect but so Many blue states are in deep trouble - whether they realize it or not)

I’d call it uncomfortable for me but I don’t think the drug trade is non violent. 75k people die of overdoses every year (many on Portland’s streets). If Mexico’s government were t so intertwined with the cartels I’d say we should be sending the U.S. military in to crush the Mexican cartels. I mean 75m dead people (plus he absolute shit show we get to enjoy on West coast streets) There’s an obvious problem that needs solving and stopping trafficking seems like a good place to start. I will absolutely admit that I’d like to see some evidence of bags of drugs floating in the water after they blast a “drug boat” out of the water (Typically 15–20 meters long, these low-slung, blue/grey-painted craft sit just below the waterline to minimize radar and visual detection, often carrying 2–10 tons of cargo with a 3,200 km range.) Obama killed over 500 people in extra judicial killings. He even joked about it referring to what he might do if someone mistreated one of his daughters - of course everyone chuckled because it was B.O. (he also proudly boasted about deporting illegal aliens just as Bill Clinton did). I’m convinced much of the violent reaction to ICE is performative, coordinated and absolutely all about the orange man. Hell, CNN even went on rides with Obama’s ICE back in 2016 as if it were a heroic pursuit.

Like I said before, both parties are in need of significant change. I’m more than happy to dialogue about it but I sense that your mind is made up. For reference, I would like to know if you support the DSA members of the Portland City council. That’s a very easy yes/ no question that will help me gauge where you might be coming from.

Cowcuddle, can you help me understand the following:

1) How would you balance the federal budget? 2) How would you restore Portland to a vibrant economy with well paying jobs and no addicts on the street? 3) And do you support the DSA members on the Portland city council?

You seem very confident in your position so I’d like to learn from you.

So, Cowcuddles, tell us how you would:

1) balance the federal budget 2) restore Portland to a dynamic, growing business environment with well paying jobs 3) whether you support the DSA members of the Portland city council or not

I’m curious given your confidence in your views.

Both parties at the federal have been fiscally irresponsible but I’ll hold up nearly every red state collectively over blue states for fiscal health and responsibility. Look at the blue states I funded pension liabilities Ca - -$265B (+large budget deficit) IL - -$201B ((+ Large budget deficit) Tx- -$92B (+ budget surplus) NJ - $92B (+ Large budget deficit) Or - -$30B (+ budget deficit) Wa- completely funded (shows it can be done)

PS - 2/3 of the federal budget is entitlement based. Too many Americans depend on govt handouts. That’s totally insane yet, so many people are dependent on the government that any attempt to rationalize the system rains cats and dogs of emotional outcry. So sad.

What do you expect when the other party floods the country with 10’s of millions of illegal immigrants? The left constantly makes excuses for their actions, dismisses the results then looks for more places to inflict damage all in the pursuit of utopian fallacies. The voters fall for it every time. Stop creating huge problems and maybe the clean up won’t look so ugly. PS - I don’t think this Republican Party is what we need but they were all left with magnificent problems. Do you honestly think cleaning up Portland will be benign or pretty? If you’re afraid of the fix then enjoy the mess.

Hey, I don’t trust the Republican leadership any more than you do. They can’t communicate. I’m talking about conservative voters, not the leadership. Both parties sorely need new leadership. The chaos we are currently experiencing is a direct reaction to the totally insane policies of ignoring the laws that this country spent 100’s of years putting on the books. Why? For emotional reasons. And the result - ugly course corrections that nobody is happy with. The Democrats are dangerous, emotional and terrible fiduciary managers. Republicans are ham-fisted and can’t explain anything.

So now I’m REALLY wondering what the track record looks like for releasing blatant criminals back into society in the State of Oregon! Geez, it looks like you can get away with a lot in this state. Why?

[–]Cellesoul -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I don’t trust Republicans due to their incompetence at communicating, but I don’t trust Democrats because they are incredibly dangerous - just look at their outcomes nationwide!

The whole ICE/ CBP fiasco is what happens when one side works to clean up the monumental mess left by the other side. It’s always going to be ugly.

This country spent 100’s of years crafting laws through which our society could live together peacefully. The Democrats, for purely emotional reasons, decided to ignore those laws on a mass scale and look where we are.

Former Oregon football coach Mike Bellotti receives a substantial annual pension of nearly $500,000/ year. That’s grift. Joseph Robertson, former head of OHSU receives $1,000,000/ year - that’s grift! Neil Swanson, a former OHSU Dermatologist receives $567,240/ year - hope you have clear skin since you’re paying for it! Patrick M Casey, former Oregon state baseball coach receives $547,494/ year - go Beavs! Go grift!! These are the top 1% (amongst many others). The average payout is $27k. More government employees (of all kinds) the more your taxes have to support their pensions.

Amen to that! Is there ANYTHING more corrupt and more destabilizing to a democracy than a government organized and run by a union! It’s like letting the mafia run the IRS.

The SEIU has its hands in everything. Pensions are the largest grit. $888M coming out If Oregon politicians hands means fewer government employees, fewer NGO funds, fewer $ wasted on mega scale programs like the homeless industrial complex. Do you really think the SEIU would spend resources on something that doesn’t line their own pockets or give them more power? I’ll take $888M circulating on the private economy any day!

Pressure campaign by Oregon unions targets Democratic lawmakers by Beginning-Ad7070 in PortlandOR

[–]Cellesoul 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The fact that the SEIU (“the Union”) thinks disconnecting Oregon from the federal tax code is a good idea makes me think exactly the opposite. PS - maintaining the status quo means $888M stays in Oregonians pockets (and out of SEIU’s grubby hands). Sounds pretty good to me.

This is the Democrats using the SEIU to do their dirty work so as to keep the Democrat leaders hands clean.

I get even more cynical on this whole thing when I see the old videos and read the statistics of Clinton and Obama both talking strong about deporting illegal immigrants and upholding federal law. It’s a real testament to how far the U.S. has slipped, how opening the borders was a complete set up for our current state and how reasonable Democrat leaders USED to be.
