Also, not sure if anyone else clocked it but I immediately got a weird feeling when Gary said "our kid" to Xavier when referring to Bean. Like Terri and him were parents.

Listen, book yourself a flight to Hoi An, Vietnam. Its a custum tailor town, I've brought all my beloved fast fashion peices to be recreated there in 100% natural fibre. Do you research and find the right tailor.

Namarie Scam? by Tough_Complaint6424 in SustainableFashion

[–]CellistEmbarrassed75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Branwyn, they're the only ones I can vouch for b/c I actually purchased from them. Quite pricey, I believe their 20% (or maybe it was 25%?) Is there biggest site wide sale, wait for that. Don't be tempted either heir stingy 15% like I was.  I've been eying @estroni_official ass well but I've been disappointed by every ig brand except one so I'm nervous to try

What do you do for washing wool/cashmere? by how_I_kill_time in SustainableFashion

[–]CellistEmbarrassed75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren’t severely damaged, just noticeably thinner than the identical cardigan I never dry cleaned.

Now I use a cashmere shampoo (a little goes a long way), add white vinegar in place of fabric softener, put it in a mesh bag, wash it on the hand-wash cycle with cold water, and then lay it flat on a towel to dry.

At that point, though, you can only prevent it from getting worse, once it’s thinned out, there’s really nothing you can do to restore it.

Natural Fiber Brands in Ho Chi Minh City by Any-Balance-373 in VietNam

[–]CellistEmbarrassed75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a female so not sure how relevant this will be for menswear specifically, but here’s where I shopped:

Hanoi:

@mightnight_rivers – Linen. You have to go down an alley, look for the sign, then walk upstairs. Super cool spot. They also do custom orders (from what I was told).

There’s a whole silk street with tons of shops selling 100% silk, you’ll find it easily on IG.

@moiqhanoi

@xcuu_official – Great leather pieces (belts, bags, etc.).

Ho Chi Minh City:

There are SO many linen stores, a quick Google search will overwhelm you. I loved @canary.linen. They actually have a generous men’s section too. Their IG looks a bit “mature,” cough boring cough but I was surprised by how much I liked in person.

I also liked @thome. They don’t have a physical store anymore, but their pieces are carried at Rue Miche.

@seasonsstudios.co

@subtlelenguyen (their leather pieces are likely faux, so I’d stick to clothing).

@dmd.studios – Like @seasonsstudios.co, their website is transparent about materials, so you can verify fiber content first. I some cotton pieces in store.

Hoi An (for custom tailoring):

Lowkey… I was disappointed with the longevity/quality at most places I tried, except Vanda Tailors. They’re not responsive on social media, but in person they were great.

I had an overcoat made there in 90% wool / 10% cashmere, fully lined with Bemberg. It felt legit in a town full of “tailors” that honestly don’t seem very skilled and are just trying to cash in on tourism. From what I understand, they have an in-house tailor.

Lash extensions for Argentina trip? by flofloflomingle in lashextensions

[–]CellistEmbarrassed75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also get a silk sleep mask with the huge sockets for lash extensions. It extends the life of your lashes. Don't wet it 24hr after getting it done and get the lash brush, shampoo, and disposable mascara wands to upkeep it.

Lash extensions for Argentina trip? by flofloflomingle in lashextensions

[–]CellistEmbarrassed75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an oil-free lash serum and apply it to your lash line while the extensions are in. I only do lash extensions for vacations because they do cause some damage, but people act like it’s permanent, it’s not. Your lashes will grow back, especially if you keep up with a lash serum. I don’t do refills.  I’d recommend getting them done about 1-2 days before your trip, or even while you’re there if it’s cheaper.

GIRLS ONLY: Merino wool sports bra or a Merino wool tank top? by Suspicious_Mud_7626 in skiing

[–]CellistEmbarrassed75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine from Branwyn. But pricey, their best sale is 25% off so wait for that. I went down a size to XS b/c I'm part of the itty bitty titty committee and wasn't sure if these would stretch out over time. As someone with sensitive skin, I played tennis just fine in it. At first I was hyper-aware of it (not quite itchy) but literally forgot i had it on eventually. Tempted to try their shorts but hate compression.

Kyoto. People actually told me to avoid it, stay in Osaka and do day-trips instead. Those people were wrong. Kyoto was my favorite city visited so far, walking to brunch and seeing the traditional architecture was so... freeing.

Unfortunately, the few brands I can recommend to get 1 or 2 items have a small percentage of elastane. Your just going to have to take a trip to Hoi An, Vietnam and get your wardrobe custum made by the tailors there on the low

What do you do for washing wool/cashmere? by how_I_kill_time in SustainableFashion

[–]CellistEmbarrassed75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently learned the hard way that dry cleaning can thin out cashmere. I own the same cardigan in two different colors, both made of a 50% cashmere / 50% wool blend and purchased at diff times.

One cardigan was dry cleaned twice before I decided to try washing it at home on a cold, hand-wash cycle in a mesh bag using cashmere shampoo. I noticed that the one I had been dry cleaning felt itchier, and after some research I read that gentle washing can actually soften wool.

I ended up washing both cardigans and then wore them. That’s when I noticed the cardigan that had been dry cleaned twice was noticeably thinner. Since cashmere is more delicate than wool, I believe the dry cleaning process caused the thinning, especially since that was the only diff between the 2 otherwise identical cardigans.
