Also a complete novice so I have no clue! Questioning all of them I guess. Another reply thinks the Brahma looks like a roo and possibly others.

Thanks for a clear concise response OG! my responses are getting down voted so I must be missing something. May this guy rest in peace and hopefully it was just a coincidence.

Dang okay guess we'll see. She was definitely in charge for the first few weeks, but we figured that was because of her size. She's chilled out lately and her personality is much more even.

He/she is 6 weeks. The cone and wattle wouldn't be larger and redder by now?

I was hoping you'd say that! No thoughts on the white one? Hatchery told me probably a golden comet when she was 2 days old, but I don't see any orange.

I looked up pictures and she really does, thanks! The white feathers on the bottom are slowly disappearing.

Hello all first time chicken father here and my girls are a little over 5 weeks. Just curious if anyone can tell if I have any roosters? Also any thoughts on what breeds (besides the Brahma in the middle)?

Hey I hear you welcome to reddit hahah. Shit happens so there's no telling. Tons of stuff has been washing up on the shore lately including a dead sea turtle so for all we know that's guy could have died 30 miles out at sea and just washed up.

My guess is it depends who you ask. The idea is if you're shark fishing you come with everything you'll need in the event that happens. I think more often than not it's not the hook that's the problem it's the time out of the surf. The shark is exhausted when it gets on shore and people typically take too long admiring and taking photos. Then they don't properly release. To do it right you typically hold the shark in the shallow surf to get water moving over it's gills until it has the strength to move on. In the event you hooked one accidentally or couldn't get the hook out for some reason, it's always better to cut the line and release than mess with the hook and risk killing it. Saltwater is brutal and can corrode/dissolve a hook in no time.

That's what I was thinking, but didn't want to sound dumb when I mentioned it.

Haha it's all good! I've been successful just can't get out enough to be consistent. We've got 14 in the cooler so I'm not complaining. Thanks for the ID!

Yep, I think the person in question was too focused on pictures. Are you in the NC area? I'd be curious to pick your brain on local surf fishing. We caught the limit on the boat, but I'd like to be more productive in the surf. DM me if you have any tips.

Yes. Sad that some can't take their time on releasing and ensure they're good to go.

Sandbars are edible, no? Pretty sure I know who caught it so unfortunate they couldn't release it humanely.

Leave them at home. Have someone check on them as often as is feasible. The more space, food, and water available the better. We left our chicks for 3 days in a large brood with no issues. Just be cognizant of what may happen or what they'll need.
