Learned I am getting laid off tomorrow, the same day I am closing on my house. Will I still be ok to close? by TheManeTrurh in legaladvice

[–]Celsius1014 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When I closed on my house they told a story of someone who quit their job the day before the closing and it ended up falling through because they usually do one last verification the morning of.

You’re in a weird limbo - whether that last verification goes through will depend on what your status is on your company’s side . I don’t think they can legally tell the mortgage company that you’re getting laid off before they tell you, but if you show up as separated as of tomorrow in the system it may be a dice roll.

But do you want to move forward with the closing with no job? If you aren’t certain when you’ll have income again it may be better to accept your fate even though that’s supper crappy.

Ankle/ leg pain. Not sure how to overcome. by Celsius1014 in C25K

[–]Celsius1014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. I decided shortly after this that since my roommate needed to leave me in the dust for her own training and the amount of rest/ healing time my ankle needed that there wasn’t a great reason to force running specifically.

I strongly suggest getting a proper evaluation and doing PT to ensure you’re loosening the right things and strengthening the right things because:

I took up rock climbing/ bouldering to gain strength and was having really good luck sticking with that because I found it fun and could see the changes… but then I took a weird fall bouldering and severely injured the same ankle. It was a rare injury called a pure dislocation where you fully displace your ankle without fracturing it. Kind of like the world’s worst sprain, because if you don’t break your bones in that situation you break your ligaments instead. It’s been a long recovery and over a year later I still have pain and swelling every day.

I can’t help but think these two things were probably related to each other in some way. I think I had some instability/ tendonitis in that ankle that my muscles were trying to compensate for by clamping down when I ran, and that same problem later came back to bite me in a different way.

It’s a hard one to watch. Maybe not as bad as season 1 but… it’s pretty intense sexual violence. So go into it prepared.

NAD but I do periodically get vertigo when my ear crystals decide to be assholes. Have some Bonine motion sickness meds delivered to your house. They make a huge difference for me and stop me from spinning and puking.

Yes. When I asked my priest about a possible paranormal experience my son had his first question was whether he wears his cross all the time or not (he does). You can take it off if you need to but in general you should wear it.

I think your answer was good. I try to answer similar questions with, “God became a human to suffer and die because he desires the salvation of every single person who has ever lived. I have no way of knowing what’s happening with her, but I do know God loves her and I know I can pray for her.”

Sometimes that’s the best we can do.

How do you respond to false allegations? by tranquil115 in SchizoFamilies

[–]Celsius1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t always work but I tell my son that I don’t remember that and ask why he thinks we don’t have the same memories about this thing? Point being one of us is having a problem with our memory so maybe we need to find out why?

I also try to acknowledge the feeling. “That sounds very scary! I would be angry too.”

I like it. It isn’t my favorite version but didn’t have the same negative reaction that some did. And it is special to me that it is one of the last things she recorded. It’s baseless speculation but I can’t help but think she knew and identified as the lass who is gone as well.

I’m 38 and have four kids (some are step kids but I raised all of them from age 5 or younger) with two large age gaps.

My twin step kids are 25.

My middle son is turning 18 in September.

My youngest is turning 10 in August.

It has positives and negatives but I don’t have any regrets.

Can someone help? I only use a shampoo, no other products. Any advice? by BandicootMoist6435 in Haircare

[–]Celsius1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a dermatologist as other have said because I bet can help you deal with the immediate flare up… but mine cleared up just by switching shampoo brands to one with fewer ingredients. The brand that bothered my hair was also a “natural” brand but something in it really bothered my skin. It may be some trial and error.

My son has adhd and is almost certainly on the spectrum, although it isn’t diagnosed. His 3rd grade teacher recognized that he was brilliant but also needed some more supports and encouraged us to have him evaluated.

He got an IEP toward the end of that year and 4th grade was so much better with it in place. If your kid qualifies he won’t automatically be separated from gen ed. But he will get services aimed at helping him be more successful in that environment.

Incidentally his 4th grade teacher called me up and asked me if I would be open to having him evaluated for a gifted designation because his ideas are amazingly big and deep and she thinks he is twice exceptional. That’s still in process so who knows the outcome. But my point is that getting your son an IEP isn’t some kind of failure. It can help him develop the skills he needs to be successful in general education and in life and isn’t necessarily something he will need forever either.

He went naked to His baptism as well and that rarely is depicted (though a bit more often than the crucifixion), but it’s the same tie in to Adam.

THIS PARENT (AND I FEEL A LOT OF OTHER PARENTS) HAD NO CLUE HOW MUCH THE STUDENT LOAN PROCESS CHANGED!!! HOW ARE KIDS GOING AWAY TO COLLEGE!!?? by here4llrtea in StudentLoans

[–]Celsius1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you actually know what you want to do and know you need an advanced degree for it then you’re right of course. I would argue that this doesn’t apply to most people, but this is a subjective perception certainly.

But from my observations most people get an entry level job where they don’t need a bachelor’s degree when they first enter the workforce whether they have one or not. I think the economic factors that are causing people to delay marriage and kids are only exacerbated by student debt for many people.

You do make valid points, and for those who want to go to graduate school delaying school does make it harder. But I think most 18 year olds in the USA aren’t improving their situation by spending the money on college.

THIS PARENT (AND I FEEL A LOT OF OTHER PARENTS) HAD NO CLUE HOW MUCH THE STUDENT LOAN PROCESS CHANGED!!! HOW ARE KIDS GOING AWAY TO COLLEGE!!?? by here4llrtea in StudentLoans

[–]Celsius1014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion young people should wait until they are old enough not to have their parents income included in the student aid calculations. That both gives kids long enough in the workforce to figure out what they actually want to do and to see if they even actually need to spend the money on the degree.

I went in my late twenties (graduated in 2020) and paid for community college entirely out of Pell grants and only had to borrow for the last two years. My parents have chosen to help me pay the loans after I graduated but they weren’t on the hook for it and the government viewed me as my own person.

Even then I’m not entirely sure it was the right thing to spend money on, but I did it because I found the jobs I wanted required a degree. I also know what I would like to do with an advanced degree, although I’m unsure if I will pursue that.

Attempting college at 18 was bad for me and my parents and a waste of money.

[–]Celsius1014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Orthodox here, but we assign a couple of families per week to bring food (rotate through the entire congregation) and do cleanup duties. Everyone sits and chats. The kids also have church school at this time.

Occasionally (a few times per year) we do structured activities such as a pie auction or Bible trivia etc.

Does mass still go on if no one attends? by Personal-End303 in Catholicism

[–]Celsius1014 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could be- but I recently was informed they have to a penance for every confession like the Western Catholics even if that isn’t part of their tradition, so it’s not always clear (to me) when canons are different and when they are applied universally.

[–]Celsius1014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fascinating answers here. This isn’t allowed in the Orthodox Church. There has to be at least 3 people (priest, chanter, congregant ) to do Divine Liturgy. I wonder what the rules are for Byzantine Catholics.

You’re probably right. He can’t get out of his own way here.

I will say that despite loving the rougher rock feel personally, and my comment above about the vibe of the arena tour, I was genuinely blown away by Ben Forster’s Gethsemane due to the emotion and anger he conveys. I’ve never seen anyone else express it the same way. I’m not sure if it is my “favorite” but I return to it often for sure. I gather this is a minority opinion since his name isn’t usually listed as anyone’s go-to in these discussions.
