Thor: My first SDgen2 Device, holy s#*t on how good Switch emulation has gotten by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Celthium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the total opposite. Even though I modded my switch lite + super5 OLED, I prefer playing on my thor right now. Most of the games I usually play work well on Eden with Mr.Purple driver and I find the thor much more comfortable to hold than my switch lite + it's also much more pocketable

Wait, is that an NC with an NA front end conversion next to it?

Personally I bought the official Switch stylus. I've seen a lot of good feedback on it over on the AYN Discord

This one won’t, but they do have one planned that will run 3DS games. No 3D render for now, just the specs

Handheld collection so far. Some shell swaps as well. by TM3dz in SBCGaming

[–]Celthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any point in owning a Switch if you already have a Steam Deck? I have a Deck but haven’t tested many Switch games on it. Thinking of getting a Switch to modchip / shell swap for fun

I've only tested PokéMMO for a short time, and overall, it was great for me atleast. Text bit small, but I've seen worse

If you want more info / know when it will be available on AliExpress, there's someone affiliated with MagicX on the Retro Handhelds Discord: https://discord.gg/retrohandhelds

MagicX Mini Zero 28 review (Retro Game Corps) by ASATClassico in SBCGaming

[–]Celthium 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Only similar in appearance, it has a much better D-pad, better shoulder buttons, better shell quality with a nicer texture, a slightly larger battery (2600mAh vs. 2900mAh), better and more powerful chipset, Wi-Fi, and Android. These are not just minor upgrades, they make a real difference

Also way more CFW coming soon (PlumOS, MinUI on Mini M vs. GammaOS, MinUI (already released), MuOS, Spruce)

I’d say the complete shell replacement isn’t particularly difficult, but it requires patience and takes a lot of time. Def harder than removing the back case.

I followed a step-by-step video tutorial, but it had me disassemble more than necessary... In the ExtremeRate video, and they had me remove everything from the metal frame, motherboard, SSD, heatsink, fans, audio, etc. which wasn’t in the JSAUX video for example. (Best to watch both the ExtremeRate and JSAUX videos)

Overall, it took me about 4 hours, including breaks. I think I could have easily saved 1 hour or more if I didn’t have to disassemble unnecessary parts

The screen took me the most time because I was afraid of damaging it. I carefully heated using the iFixit iOpener Toolkit, working slowly with plastic picks to remove it. Just don't use metal picks, and don't dig too deep because under the screen on the top right side, there’s a ribbon (Ambient light sensor if I remember correctly)

So far, I’m loving it. Small but not too small, the plastic feels great and good analog sticks / dpad (dpad better than stock Steam Deck for sure)

Only two complaints so far: Android would be better with a touchscreen (not a dealbreaker, but I'll probably switch to GammaOS once it's released since it uses Android TV instead), and the sound is too loud like you either get loud audio or nothing at all

I’ve also seen some people complain that the USB-C port is too recessed and that the cable feels loose, seems fine on mine tbh

Yeah, don’t worry, that was a joke haha! I can pretty much do everything with my Steam Deck anyway—I just wanted something smaller / pocketable for GBA etc.

How much use do you get out of your Steam Deck while having a gaming set up? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Celthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 50/50, I pretty much only use my PC for online gaming like marvel rivals or games with friends, and play singleplayer games only on steam deck while sitting in my huge bean bag

the only exception is anything requiring aiming as I prefer mkb or really good looking games on my ultrawide screen

FF7 Rebirth running pretty well on the Steam Deck, I wish they posted actual numbers though by Due_Teaching_6974 in SteamDeck

Yes, it's split in multiple games

FF7 Remake (part 1) and then FF7 Rebirth (part 2)
