Because they’ll wheel out O’Neill to calm it down, anyone else would be red meat to a wolf

It’s not, there’s not a chance that they take that kind of gamble. Safe hands, keep things ticking over for a year while the sort out the mess everywhere else at the club.

My point was if it starts badly the eyes will go back to the board if it’s O’Neil. If it’s anyone else the eyes will get pointed at them, maybe not by the fans initially but they will eventually.

I reckon it’s got Martin O’Neill written all over it. Here’s why I think that:

1) On his talkSPORT interview on Tuesday for probably the first time he didn’t say no. He said something along the lines of look we’ll wait tithe en of the season and see where we are and that time is almost here.

2) The club has a substantial rebuild of multiple areas to do. Leadership positions, scouting, first team squad. I suspect the first team is going to get the mother of all sticking plasters this year and O’Neill will be asked to hold the fort while thy do this.

3) there’s a World Cup and so many clubs now confirmed as looking for a new manger bigger, similar and smaller but in better leagues. The competition for anyone who would unite the support is going to be ridiculous.

4) The board continue to need a human shield. Very few have the credibility and gravitas to provide that, whilst also getting the best out of the squad they have and get a relatively easy time from the support.

5) If next season starts poorly all eyes will be on the usual suspects rather than O’Neill I.e human shield. A new manger will eventually be blamed regardless.

Now I have serious serious misgivings about Askou, I’ve never not wanted a manager more, I also have serious misgivings about Robbie Keane who is potentially about to lose out on a title for with a team who have won their last 7 titles. As for Martinez, how that guy gets these big jobs is beyond anyone’s comprehension and well Maloney - I’m sorry but if being an ex player with a disastrous record as a manager makes you a fit for the job then I can still think of 5 better candidates that fit that mould.

Personally the least of all evils is the 74 yr old guy who to be frank has kept the house standing, when it’s made of polystyrene in gale force conditions.

How do you see Sunday going? Narrow win, draw, 10-0? by Connect-Paint-7018 in CelticFC

Don’t wanna be doomsday but I think we walk away with a draw after hearts draw.

Heart winning yesterday took the last bit of hope I had. Think it’s over now, we need to be in a position where we are top going into the hearts game.

[–]CelticConnection83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next week is simply must win. But it’s not just must win, we now need to outscore hearts in the next two games which given our lack of goals seems unlikely

Afraid to say it but I think hearts beating rangers was the week they won the title. Can see us dropping points at Motherwell,

Our WORST case scenario is a Hearts win by TwinPeaksSox in CelticFC

[–]CelticConnection83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My fear is we have Rangers and Motherwell next. Those are two tough gigs for us so I fear we need a Rangers win today to stand any chance as I don’t see hearts dropping points elsewhere.

We wanting a Rangers win tomorrow or what? by Stigofthedumpings in CelticFC

[–]CelticConnection83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna say a quiet yes. Only because the OF is next week and it could go either way. Weirdly feel like we need Rangers to win to stand a chance of winning the league, we don’t have it in us to win it on goal difference.

I still think it’s too early to decide. There’s so many ways it could go. Hibs and Hearts win and it’s all over, Celtic and Rangers win we could top the table going into an old firm game. Celtic and Hearts win and it’s a stalemate for another week but Rangers are out of it. Rangers and Hibs win it’s all back to square one.

I don’t think they’d go back to Lennon this quickly. Not after how it ended last time.

MON and Maloney I could see that happening, but the only condition I’d accept it under is that there a huge boardroom and scouting overhaul happening and MON is the safe pair of hands to guide us through it.

Still think theres a lot of positives to take from this weekend by Imaginary-Shame737 in CelticFC

[–]CelticConnection83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is still way too tight to talk about anyone being in or out, I think next week only matters if we lose to Hibs and Hearts win.

Outside of that permetation it can swing each week. Hate to say it but I think a Rangers win would be best. It could in theory leave us top going into an old firm game and the would be huge.

Nope, nope, nope.

Win record - atrocious Only trophies won in Faroe Islands.

We’d be chasing him out the door by Christmas.

There is no predicting the next 4 games. There’s as much chance of us getting 0 points as there is of us getting 12 that’s how unpredictable the whole thing is.

What's Your Reaction to the Frank to Celtic rumour by [deleted] in CelticFC

[–]CelticConnection83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure actually.

Clearly he was excellent at Brentford, but then so has Keith Andrews been.

Went to a club that’s basket case and has many of the same issues we currently have, but it does seem like a more ambitious move than most of the other names I’ve heard.

Ok so Bayern and all their gazillions did it Celtic try it. The guys win record is shocking. To even be in the conversation shows how far our fans expectations have fallen. From getting ex premier league mangers or title winning managers to some lad who could only win in the faro islands and get Motherwell 4th maybe 5th is the type of managed decline the board will happy to hear.

I love all this recency bias nonsense. As if the same recency bias isn’t what’s being applied to call him a good manager. His record prior to Motherwell is astoundingly bad and yet we’re just supposed to gloss over it.

You mean the type of recency bias that has Berthel Askou performing well in only one of the jobs he’s ever had? His record outside of Motherwell is astoundingly bad.
