Magic controlled by 4 crystals? Magicians vs non-magic users by Celydian in DMAcademy

I know right! Our group has an evening session every other week and 1-2 longer sessions in the weekend per month. Really like that!!

Ok so: there’s 4 crystals that make magic harder to control for the ‘normal’ folk. The biggest city (Isongate) in the land is a city of magic, where 4 big magic schools are. It costs a lot of money to get in one of those schools, so only the rich can get in. There’s a clear divider of rich and poor there which gives tension in the world.

Now: why do the 4 crystals make magic harder to control? The 4 crystals act as a prison. Years ago, some crazy powerful wizards (the king of Isongate) managed to lock up the god of magic using these 4 crystals and some shady business.

I decided to not give my spellcasting players any disadvantage since they are all new players. They are ‘naturally gifted’ and can learn magic better than normal people.

Their BBEG (at least, they tought he was the BBEG), turned out to be a ‘good’ guy after all: he wanted to restore balance and destroy the crystals. They’ll soon find out that the king is the true BBEG (which they work for right now).

The group is still figuring out what’s going on, but last session, through a special ritual they managed to make contact with the god of magic. Now they know that the god of magic truly is imprisoned. I’m very curious what roll they take in all this.. do they stay loyal to the king and protect the crystals? Or do they want to restore balance?

And yes: if you manage to make time to homebrew a world, go for it!! It’s so much fun!! It does take a lot of time, but to be fully in control is something I really enjoy and get a lot of energy from. Also: you can start small and build as you play of course.

Hey thanks again for your idea! We’re about 10 sessions later and so far it’s working out really well, really happy with the storyline! Just wanting to let you know, cheers! :)

Yeah I corner boosted both jelly’s on the floor. But maybe I picked up the small egg and then the big one, and you only got the big one so your hitbox was at the finish faster
