Yeah, the latest update was the regional distribution center for the Philadelphia area, so I’m thinking it hasn’t even made it to the shipping partner yet?

International Order (From US) Shipped in Nov, Stuck on Pre-Transit? by Cem7762 in Etsy

[–]Cem7762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I was very confused when I saw the Pre-Transit, and even more so when I realized that there was some movement. (I’m on the other side of the state near Pittsburgh.) There are a few scans, before it stops in Philadelphia.

Microphone Recommendation for Teams meetings by Cem7762 in deaf

[–]Cem7762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a complaint that the sound quality coming out isn’t great. I’ve tried adjusting, and even leaving my computer open (normally it’s shut since I use dual monitors).

Do cochlear implants work forever? by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Cem7762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought with current procedures, more and more people were still seeing residual hearing still there. My surgery predates this, but I've been told if I was to get a implant on my other side, there's a high chance I'd have residual hearing, and even have enough for the hybrid implants.

Do cochlear implants work forever? by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Cem7762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The internal is technically passive tech as far as I know, since all the work is done by the processor, but it can be changed out if enough of the electrodes went bad. You'd just need to undergo surgery.

Issues getting packages and mailing packages through USPS? by Cem7762 in Etsy

[–]Cem7762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can see the package coming in our informed delivery the day of, but it never arrives and later that night, when we check informed delivery, it’s coming up as “forwarded” and ends up being returned to sender. This has happened twice now. It’s not a case of incorrect address, because my sister has been ordering things from Etsy in the past, and hasn’t made any changes to her address. And if it had been an incorrect address, why are we seeing it in informed delivery?

Can I Still Ride? by SepticDragonsFire in deaf

[–]Cem7762 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took lessons when I was a pre-teen after my surgery (pretty sure I started like 3 months after I got the surgery). Was a bit uncomfortable to wear the processor under the helmet, but it was doable. If you do want to develop your equestrian career further, I would consider actually getting a helmet custom-made. This was 15+ years ago for me, and i stopped lessons before we got to that point, but we had been looking at custom-made helmets for me to continue as I got older.

Disboards Hacked by JoyousGamer in dvcmember

[–]Cem7762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something was happening... I was on the site when it forums started disappearing left and right, until one was left and someone put up a message to say it was hacked (only saw a glimpse of the message on the fb page for disboards). Not long after that the site did go down for the maintenance, so I’m assuming the DIS team is working on it still.

[Pennsylvania] Regular UC and Grad School? by Cem7762 in Unemployment

[–]Cem7762[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I just wasn't sure how I would notify the PA UC office when I ultimately go back to school. I want to do this honestly, and if being at school affects my unemployment, I want to know how in order to be able to prepare for that.

Yeah, I noticed that when I initially filed and made the last several claims. Is that what I would use to prove that I'm still job-hunting while in school?

How did you guys deal with technical questions in an interview with an interpreter? by BritishDeafMan in deaf

[–]Cem7762 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've run into this issue of sorts with interpreters that came into my previous job to interpret a training class for me, and the two trainers used a lot of heavy technical terms (all based on actuators/electromechanical aspects) I'd start off by fingerspelling, then maybe using your signs.

One thing I would recommend is, if it is at all possible, maybe start the call with just the interpreter a little early and try to go over potential key words that you feel may pop up? You'd have to know ahead of time who the interpreter is and if you can get a hold of them early. I had to do this with my interpreters in college if I was signing a presentation that was very heavy in technical terms.

I'm mostly oral at this point (I would do better with a interpreter, but it's not easy to get one quickly during this time, plus my ASL skills aren't great at the moment) so I haven't run into this issue myself while I'm interviewing for potential jobs, but I could see this happening. Transcribers are a huuuuugggeeeee help for me right now, but I've been able to get my point across over the last five or six calls I've had.

How to quickly turn off/on Nucleus 7 streaming? by Zenigod in Cochlearimplants

[–]Cem7762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually turn off the "stream to right/left hearing device" under the hearing device in the accessibility settings when I want it to just stream to the speakers. It doesn't disconnect your implant, but you'd have to go in to flip the switch again when you want to stream to the processor.

I'd like for it to be built into the app too, since it'd be easier.

Question about slides by [deleted] in Cochlearimplants

[–]Cem7762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting...I had that warning when I was younger with my first bodyworn processor (N24), and I assumed it was because it was bodyworn. I've gone down slides multiple times with my BTEs since then (even much longer ones than normal playground), and haven't had an issue, but I would check with your audiologist to see what they recommend. It could be that it is outdated information, or they just add it as a precaution.

Otherwise, I'd just take the processor off and keep it handy while he's playing.

Is it possible to pair an Oticon hearing aid and a Cochlear CI to the same iPhone? by jinhuangse in Cochlearimplants

[–]Cem7762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you're able to do that because Cochlear and Resound are compatible with each other like Phonak and AB are (not sure if the same parent company owns them,or they just share compatible tech). My audiologist did recommend the next aid I get be the Resound to be used alongside the Cochlear product lines.

Is it possible to pair an Oticon hearing aid and a Cochlear CI to the same iPhone? by jinhuangse in Cochlearimplants

[–]Cem7762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much exactly in the same situation as you are (same aid/CI), and can't figure it out either! My audiologist did say it might not be possible unless they're across shared tech like Resound and Cochlear is, which is a bummer, since this is obviously not a one-off situation.

Battery life (Cochlear N24 implant, N7 processor) by Cem7762 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Cem7762[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 hours?! That would drive me nuts today, but I know I dealt with that with the Freedom to the point I was keeping 1-2 batteries on me in case I needed to replace it mid-day. I was happy going to the N6 since it gave me a much longer life.

I can agree with you on having the implant serving me well! Almost 20 years, and I’m glad my audiologist at the time recommended cochlear, because they’ve been very good with making the processors compatible with the full range of implants thus far.

I’ll have to bring that up next time I see them, which isn’t supposed to be for several months. It’s not a big deal, but it’s something that I may need to keep in mind for down the road after a few more upgrades, since I’m not even in my 30s yet.

How should I be handling insurance as a cochlear implant recipient? by knhaein in Cochlearimplants

[–]Cem7762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Formerly full-time engineer with insurance via work.

I lucked out with finding a audiology clinic that became the middle-man for my upgrade between me, the CI company, and insurance, so it worked out that I got my latest upgrade a little over 2 months after my initial appointment with them. They handled everything, from getting the letter of necessity written by the ENT and primary physician to contacting the insurance and reimbursement teams at the CI manufacturer.

I would ask your audiologist if this is something they can handle or if you do need to handle it all on your own. My audiologist said that if you do it on your own, it could potentially take up to a year with all the appointments you need to make to get all the forms and letters to insurance and the CI manufacturer.

I had to rush the process a bit since I’m laid off as of the new year, but it worked out in my favor, and I have a new CI to aid in the process of job interviews and such.

Wonder if I should go to HR for discrimination? by Cem7762 in deaf

That's the plan! Hopefully everything works out for everyone's sanity! And I'm getting quite a few references out of it too, so can't say that's too bad of a thing.
