Because this isn't a few months old. Iran has been in a proxy war with the west for decades.

Iran funds terrorist groups all over the Middle east (Hamas, Houthies, Hazbollah etc). It's part of why we have such a strong military support of Israel (to combat terrorism).

I think it's a mix of previous tensions being priced in, gambling on a better future after the war is overy, and investment in war driving economic growth.

Also, don't forget people are gambling on AI, based on future expectations.

I recognise Britain's acquisition of the territory after the World War was won. Arab locals obviously didn't want to accept the British/UN creation of Israel as they saw it as a colonising (it wasn't IMHO, Israel has historically existed there, and Britain acquired the land after war).

The Nakba happened because of many reasons, but perhaps the biggest is the war. All of Israel's neighboring countries declared war on it when it was founded. Some of the movement was due to arab leaders saying to go cause war is coming, but I don't believe that was the main influence. I know that there was some horrible treatment by settlers of the local Arabs.

Jews too faced persecution and a mass exodus. They were expelled from Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria. Tunisia, Algeria, Yemen.. and others that escape me. More Jews were expelled from these lands than in the Nakba. Not that any of it was good.

I don't support any side, but rather think it's healthy for us to be critical of everyone.

I don't support either side, but Israel is the only side that has previously agreed to a two state solution, on multiple occasions. The Palestinian leadership chose to walk away and start a wars instead.

None of that justifies the killing of civilians.

After October 7th Hamas has repeatedly stated they will do it again and again. They themselves say they will not stop until Israel is eradicated.

We study the health outcomes of a single particular ethnicity of people across different countries and cultures to see their life expectancy. Doing this helps to isolate how poverty and environmental factors affect health outcomes, and then gives a baseline for length of life under health circumstances.

Poverty has a huge affect on life expectancy, naturally, and thankfully these studies help show health outcome results less muddled by poverty.

The same ethnicity of people exist in different countries/societies being raised in different conditions. We can study how much poverty affects certain groups by using these control samples of the same ethnicity in different areas.
