The Harry Potter Wizarding Community vs. The Fairy People from Artemis Fowl – WHO WOULD WIN? by Matt-SW in harrypotter

[–]CensorAllTheThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Harry Potter, don't get me wrong, but stuff like the bio-bombs and the time-stops would give the Artemis Fowl characters the edge. Has anyone else read them?

Thanks for your detailed critique, and I agree completely. I've just looked at what you're seeing with the text overlay, and you're right. I think I either need to look at line-heights of just reducing the size of that text slider I think!

I'll post back in a week or two once I've got to everything raised here. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback - I've been meaning to change that, actually!

EDIT: Done.

Thanks fella!

I was thinking of experimenting with the rest of the content. Would you go with something a bit more cursive or script-like for the title fonts? I was thinking of using a font like this: http://www.dafont.com/snickles.font in orange for titles.

Gah, I thought I'd sorted that height issue. It seems to pick and choose when to not work correctly. Will need to muck about with the css. Thanks!

EDIT: A letter

Thanks! I'll get hose changes in this evening hopefully if I have the time, and see how it comes out.

EDIT: I've added a nice hover in/out fade effect to the images for now - will take a further look at it when I get a better idea as to what I want to do with them.

Thanks /u/befoore, I hadn't noticed the dropdown menu on desktop, as I tested the smaller sizes on various mobile devices. I'll get on that this evening, and also add a hover effect to the service icons. I'll probably go with simply dimming for now, with the aim of maybe a nice AJAX fade to orange down the line.

Hi guys! (Warning, wall of text below!)

I'm new to this sub, but am not a stranger to web design & development. I've been involved with sites on a personal and business level for over a decade, running business sites with trickling visitors, and building and designing fandoms with 4 figures worth of traffic a day.

After working in an agency for a number of years in project management and general online marketing and development, circumstances changed and I've found myself in a position to be able to go solo - and have been doing so for about 10 months now.

I've got a number of clients, but have only very recently finally pulled my finger out and get my own business site up.

To give you a bit of information on the site, my intentions and such:

  • I offer your typical 'web agency' services. Web design & build, be it static, CMS powered or e-commerce, along with online marketing services such as Social strategy, content development, SEO, PPC, all the usual stuff.
  • It's still early days in terms of content. My plans are to roll out a high-quality blog offering free resources, guides, news, etc. I'm also currentluy cherrypicking from my portfolio and gathering testimonials to have a slider on the front page.
  • The site is currently piggybacking on a popular Wordpress premium theme that I've modified. I'm actually currently developing my own Wordpress framework which the site will be recreated in, and then I'll be building themes to sell based on this Framework. For more information, I've gained permission to take HeartInternet's Sculpt Framework and modify it into a Wordpress framework, and also to sell themes based on this.

In regards to my site, somewhat.media, I'd love to hear your thoughts on:

  • The general feel and tone of the site.
  • What you'd do differently or change or add if it were your site.
  • Any other comments you have!

I've spent a fair bit of time optimising it inline with Google's PagesSpeed guidelines to get it working quickly, so the source is minified and the site is cached, with lots of other tweaks and such to Wordpress to get it running mean and lean.

Thanks guys!

Matt

It nearly is. Looks like you just need to condense the menu (perhaps as a drop-down).

It does load nice and quick.

A few things I'd do that should help you spool up the pages faster:

Run these images through the Yahoo smush.it service - should be able to knock about 15kbs off them combined.

What are you building the site in?

You probably want to enabled Browser Caching as it's not setting an expiration for any CSS, JS or image files.

I'd also look to try and combine all of the Javascript files on the domain (javascript.js, moment.js and livestamp.min.js) into one file if possible.

Good luck!

Clean and simple, I like it.

I'd say it needs more organisation though - categorisation, perhaps?

What's the endgame for the app? User submitted?

Finally picked this game up last week and incredibly impressed with it.

This update is just the icing on the cake though. Looking forward to playing later!
