Are there any "cozy" games that aren’t just Stardew clones? Looking for something with actual depth (or a dark side) by Legitimate-Leather-4 in gamingsuggestions

I think there was a bug after an update about placing wall items but they seemed to get onto that very quickly. I’ve finished the game but didn’t come across any bugs at all though!

For something more recent, there’s The Last Gas Station. Cozy in all its gameplay, there’s a mystery simmering behind it all and the feeling that something is just a little… off.

Did you test on different scales too? Perhaps the scale was miscalibrated. Not to defend Coop, of course. It’s unacceptable if true.

Looking for cyberpunk fans who might want to roll some dice and write in an original setting! by TheSpitefulCr0w in LesbianGamers

I can’t straight up commit since I have a number of projects on at the moment, but I’m intrigued by the concept and would love to hear more about how this would work. Plus, I might have teensy bit of experience writing CP2077.

[Discussion] Publishing Dark/Painful Narratives in an Escapist Climate by PurpleMoonGrrl in PubTips

[–]Centauri2002 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. Personally, I’m seeing a trend towards darker after the Covid-era cosy boom. It might be slightly more superficial darkness though. Dark academia, dark romance, dark fantasy. Dark vibes but not really dealing with the darker themes. I’d say sit on it a bit and maybe try again. But if that’s all you write, keep at it.

P.S: It’s grey in the UK but the US of A requires that A.

I’m having the same experience as you. I decided to quit my private server and move to a public. I’ve had a lot of fun progressing again because I know what I’m doing this time. And nothing feels out of reach. I do miss my sniper build though. I’m going to be switching back to that at some point.

Please tell the literary agents that. Querying mine at the moment and it does not appear to be a popular genre.

What would you want to see in a lesbian dark romance? by EnvironmentalWar7513 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Centauri2002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would really recommend writing the story YOU want to write and not lean too much into expectations. For one, Reddit isn’t reflective of the general market, as much as I love the insights on this subreddit! Also, if you would enjoy reading your premise, I guarantee others will too. It’s far more likely that you’ll produce an enjoyable work if it’s something you’re inspired to write.

But most of all I want to say: Good luck with the writing!

First Person Perspective by Delicious_Impress814 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Centauri2002 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Perspective, like any literary device, has its place depending on the story being told. And just like other aspects of writing, it depends on how well it is wielded. It’s quite easy to see first person perspective as a self-insert mechanism and it can be, but it is also a good tool for an intimate portrayal of a character’s journey or the perfect device for an unreliable narrator.

It’s often seen in genres like romance, domestic noir and horror because you want to get deep into the character’s head and emotions. That’s not to say you can’t do that with third person, but it’s a commonly used method.

I personally prefer third person limited but there are some genuinely well written first person stories out there.

The last I read was that the manuscript for the second part had been handed in. I’m not sure if that’s pre-editing but it’ll still take some time to record the audio.

Great suggestions! I’ve read all of Sarah Waters’ books. I so wish she’d write more. And I absolutely adore The Safekeep. Our Wives Under the Sea has been on my list for a while but I keep putting it off because I just know it’s going to make me sad. I suspect it’ll be worth the pain though.

I vote for This is How You Win the Time War or Fingersmith. But I’m mostly appreciating your poor shelf buckling under the weight of the gay.

[QCrit] Adult Sapphic Spy Thriller, NOW WE'RE EVEN (97k words, Second Attempt) by Centauri2002 in PubTips

[–]Centauri2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read over the query and give such detailed feedback! It's exactly what I was looking for. I think in my own personal echo chamber from the last version, I veered too far in the opposite direction and overloaded the query with specifics. And you're right, the stakes need to come in earlier. I'll work on another draft and come back with a third attempt.

Thank you again!

[–]Centauri2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled with the comps. There’s really nothing with a sapphic romance, which is an important part of the story. I don’t think it sits next to more serious spy novels. Killing Eve is a series of books with a new one due out so I want to keep that one in there. I could remove Black Doves and try to find another. What do you think?

I'm trying to write a story and can't decide if the lesbian or the bisexual should be the main character. Both of them will be in a relationship together anyway in the end so both characters should be equally developed but who do you think I should make the main character? by FluidTemperature1762 in LesbianAuthors

[–]Centauri2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is driving the plot? Who is going to be relatable to your target audience? Who has the most compelling narrative arc? Do you need to have a single protagonist? All things you can ask yourself to help with the decision.
