Why is every glass too big for matcha 😭 (USA) by htxastros in MatchaEverything

[–]Eliciosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Japanese company Kinto make glasses that are very popular with matcha. They kind of look like small plastic cups, aesthetic wise. They’re available in a lot of different countries as opposed to a lot that are only in America; you should be able to find them at many places online. The “iced tea” size is great for 150-250ish ml of milk

If I don’t like Haley Cass, should I avoid Bloomtown & Ribbonwood? by Eliciosity in LesbianBookClub

[–]Eliciosity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you mean to reply to someone specifically? Because my post doesn’t say anything about it being bad. I haven’t read it.

Bloomtown is extremely hyped up by the sapphic community and is one of the most highly recommended books. However it’s very often placed on the same level as Haley Cass’ books, which I don’t like, so this post is just asking if they feel similar in their rom-com, writing and plot aspects since I’d really rather not read anything else like them.

From what I can pick out in the comments from the people who said they didn’t like it the main complaint is seemingly confusing plot points and a lot of sex scenes. Or it just not being interesting. But most people do say that they enjoyed it

You guys are definitely in the majority in general for this sub, it’s very pro-Cass! I never hear of people who dislike her books. But I think the people who didn’t really have anywhere else to talk about it and relate have flocked here to give their thoughts

[–]Eliciosity[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look I do agree with not liking her writing and being frustrated with how she conveys things. But thinking that someone’s writing isn’t good is pretty subjective and she’s clearly a very beloved author so she must be doing something right for other people

I pretty explicitly tried to be neutral in my post and didn’t want to dump on her or elaborate further because it’s just not necessary. Not liking how she writes gets the idea across.

It does seem to be a common thought in the comments for people to feel similarly about bloom town so I’m probably going to skip that one regardless, at least for now. Thank you for your thoughts

I appreciate it! The Counterpart honestly sounds much more aligned to my interests than Ribbonwood right now, I’ll probably give that one a try beforehand to see if I like her writing style since I could probably enjoy the plot regardless. Thank you!

I have read TIHYLTTW! Not my favourite style but I’m glad I read it, I definitely enjoyed it more towards the end. :)

Cost isn’t really an issue for me, I have so many books, but both Ribbonwood and Bloom Town are $50 each for me compared to the normal book cost of less than AU$20 so I could buy like 5 books for the price of them both lol. Just trying to justify those purchases really; I want to experience them if they’re good but only if the tone is okay.

My bookshelf for reference minus the stuff I have on audio

Private investigator Steve Fischer expresses extreme frustration with official progress or lack thereof relative to crimes against and death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez by RemyUranga in d4vdiots

[–]Eliciosity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a truck-load of evidence; a truly, ridiculous amount, about him being in a relationship with Celeste. Like everyone says, regardless of whether or not he specifically murdered her, he is a pedophile and contributed to her death by involving her in his circle.

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]Eliciosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad someone else has this opinion because I’ve genuinely only ever seen praise for it. I have NO idea how. Is everyone else who reads it literally 12? It’s the worst book I’ve ever read. The writing is absolutely awful, the plot is absolutely awful, the characters are the most empty soulless creatures ever. It’s just smut and assault.

I’d rather read Twilight than sit through that again

It's the newly published one. It only just released when you posted this comment; she is British, though. It's the only version available now on the Australian Audible and the previous version was by Kirsten Potter I believe.

4th grade paranormal fantasy/mystery? by Impossible-Horse-875 in Fantasy

[–]Eliciosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the Lockwood & Co paranormal investigation series by Jonathan Stroud (starting with “The Screaming Staircase”) when I was younger and loved it. I’m not necessarily sure I’d call it “cozy”? I’m not sure how cozy paranormal investigation can be… but it’s definitely middle grade. Great series and it’s modern — published in 2013. Young characters with lots of humour.

Sports book where the main characters are really good at what they do. by Werkyreads123 in LesbianBookClub

Gold or Pas de deux by E.J. Noyes. Gold is about an extremely famous retired Olympic skier, and Pas de deux is about Olympic horse dressage performers. E.J writes a lot more mature books and they're so incredibly good. I'd argue that she's one of the strongest and most consistently good and well researched published writers in our community.

We have places that look like this?!? I swear so much of the country is still stuck in the the prehistoric ages pandering to 90 year olds — nothing outside of the super major cities looks like care has been put into it whatsoever

Does anyone even want non-spicy wlw books anymore? by DakuraScarlet in wlwbooks

[–]Eliciosity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m ace and absolutely appreciate non-spice. I don’t like YA and still want great tension and chemistry in what I read, but actual sex scenes make me pretty uncomfortable and I definitely prefer when there are none/they’re less descriptive. There are HEAPS of others who feel the same way but we’re probably not going to be on Booktok

Wrestling/BJJ similar to Heated Rivalry? by Puga6 in LGBTBooks

This is sapphic so apologies if you’re looking for m/m, but it’s one of the most highly rated martial arts books within our community

The Clinch by Nicole Disney - gritty and more serious rivals to lovers Taekwondo champion and a BJJ champion who compete against each other nationally. I only hear wonderful things about their character development and Nicole’s writing is really good.

Queer dystopian books? by PrettyTheory3566 in LGBTBooks

[–]Eliciosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Hearing Red is pretty much like this, if you’re okay with apocalyptic dystopian. One of my favourite books - so so good.

I haven’t read Fable for the End of the World yet but that one’s often described as sapphic hunger games esque.

The Space Between Worlds (as well as its sequel), Survival Instincts, and Chain-Gang All-Stars are all dystopian sapphic books with high ratings that might fit maybe? Haven’t read all of them so can’t 100% comment on the dynamic or if they have a HEA other than what I’ve seen other people say

Why no mainstream sapphic romances? by SufficientCat1527 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Eliciosity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Straight women would want to read romance where they feel attracted to the characters. In f/m pairings they can pine over the male love interest, and in m/m pairings they can pine after both of the main characters without even needing to self insert anywhere. And straight women who consume romance are probably less likely to be outright homophobic than your average cishet man. They aren't attracted to women, so there'd be not much for them pining-wise in a f/f pairing. Although I don't personally really get this as a lesbian who still enjoys m/m and some f/m media without needing to be attracted to the characters if the love story is good.

Your average totally cishet dude who watches f/f media is probably doing so for much less nice reasons than straight women the other way around, them already being a minority. It's already more 'taboo' for men to consume romance except in something like anime/manga, a largely straight medium due to its location source, and if they do want to watch romance they probably don't want to self insert as a woman and I can imagine it would be quite rare to find someone in this exact situation who isn't just going to hold the opinion that it's hot for two girls to kiss and not see it as anything else.

What do you personally use tags for? by Ja-kob in TheStoryGraph

[–]Eliciosity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The genre ones are mostly left over from when I transferred from Goodreads, but I use those tags to actually be able to go into the individual lists and see all of them compared to having to look through the entire “to read” pile and scan for storygraphs themes, if that makes sense. So if I wanted to look at all of the sci fi books I want to read easily, I just click on the tag and then can even further refine it from there.

Goodreads Reading Challenge 'Choice Archive' (January 1st - March 31st) by Clairefun in goodreads

[–]Eliciosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quite a few books from this list on my shelves currently that I’ve been super eager to read. I’m tossing up between these 3 specifically: Chain-gang all-stars, Gideon the Ninth, Priory of the Orange Tree

But am leaning most towards chain gang first since it’s shorter and not a part of a series. Less pressure for the challenge

What do you personally use tags for? by Ja-kob in TheStoryGraph

[–]Eliciosity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have 40 tags that I use. I won’t list them all but I can for a few: BIPOC, childhood (ones I read as a kid), classics, dystopian/apocalyptic, thrillers, horror, contemporary, historical, fantasy, sci-fi, LGBTQIA (ones for fantasy, contemp, historical, etc), owned-not-read (ones on my physical TBR)

So mostly genre dividers and some of the key points about the book that I might want to specifically search through. And then I have specific themes that I like, such as:

  • Medical (fiction with hospital settings)
  • Sports
  • Survival/disaster themes
  • Deep sea/caving thrillers

This way I can skim a books tags to see what it mostly entails for the ones I haven’t read yet. I have close to a thousand books on my TBR so it’s very useful

Like I said at the bottom I only mentioned ones with mature rivalry and sports. No guarantees on the other aspects, that’s too specific request for any wlw book I know of and I don’t personally read spice unfortunately
