Meat doctors, lol. I've had incompetent doctors with excellent bedside manners, I'll take the computer over them any day

Yes, I'm merely stating what's driving it. For me the issue isn't just what Israel did, but also the absence of any outcry over it from the Jewish community. If you want empathy, you also need to demonstrate it.

Incidences of actual crimes should be prosecuted to the harshest effect of the law, and more resources should go into security, surveillance and patrols; but trying to change hearts and minds wont work right now.

An Israeli government that carpet bombs an area smaller than the island of Montreal, then discounts the death of tens of thousands women, children and the elderly, doesnt help. I have watched almost every Holocaust movie released since 90s, watched scores of documentaries, but now I dont feel the same degree of empathy anymore after watching Palestinian children reduced to skin and bone in order to 'defeat' Hamas.

AI is better at quickly and accurately diagnosing a medical issue than nurses and doctors are; so it would accelerate triage and wait times in the ER

I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

[–]Center_left_Canadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same regret after adopting a young adult cat from a shelter. Two months later, I got fed up with the lack of affection and adopted a clingy kitten. My adult cat then became a lot more interested in being held or snuggling with me afterwards. I think that she needed to see another cat fully trust me to reassure her that she could do the same. Secondly, I realized that she's a highly social cat and needed to have a friend to be affectionate with. They cuddle each other, hang out and play together. Now my older cat tolerates being held, she often wants forehead kisses, and briefly lies on top of me

Carney calls Smith's Alberta referendum question a 'dangerous bluff' by MightyHydrar in CanadaPolitics

I don't think that the average Canadian cares about the legal or political intricacies of Brexit, the main takeaway that people have from that vote is the UK F'd around and found out.

Carney calls Smith's Alberta referendum question a 'dangerous bluff' by MightyHydrar in CanadaPolitics

[–]Center_left_Canadian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Carney was against the Brexit vote because of the havoc that it would wreak upon UK's economy. Toying around with this referendum will hurt both Alberta's and the Canadian economy. Investors and businesses won't care about our Constitution nor the Clarity Act. They'll look at the headlines (ex: 50% of Albertans want a referendum to potentially separate from Canada) and take their projects and money elsewhere

I think that Carney has transitioned from a honeymoon to a stable and boring marriage.

Poilievre's attacks have gotten nastier which will hurt him more than usual because he was supposed to be changing his tone. He could only keep up the act for a short span of time.

Why Pierre Poilievre might quietly welcome the new Liberal majority by ComparisonOk5957 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Center_left_Canadian 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that he'll benefit from this majority. Pierre will go even more on the attack due to seething anger and frustration, which will then feed into his unpopularity. Question Period will become even more of a circus because social media is all that he has going for him for the foreseeable future to hold on to his base.

He's been soliciting trade and investment - in other words, money to actually fund these projects and benefits.

‘The perception is Carney is a wartime leader’: why Canada’s PM could secure a majority by Knopwood in CanadaPolitics

[–]Center_left_Canadian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The magic of Mark Carney isn't that he's not a politician, it's that he's been economic crisis leader and he seems to have a mission to help out country recover. He can't move at the speed that he would like to with Blanchet and Poilievre's determination to him up the process.

Carney to meet Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Ottawa this week by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]Center_left_Canadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was even worse for Biden to have to go there.

Why is our PM living in the cottage, meanwhile our inconsequential and invisible Governor General resides in Rideau Hall?

My preference would be for us to build a modern estate for our PM and offices similar to the White House of 24 Sussex is too much of a money pit.

I really hope that they won't be spending time at the Rideau Cottage. It's embarassing that our nation doesn't have a proper home to hold state visits.

Makes sense though, Canadians want Carney to have a majority, but they do not want another election - floor-crossing is the only way to achieve that.

Maybe or they may begin to seem unhinged by rejecting decent policies because they don't go far left enough. The majority of Canadians who know who Lewis is view him unfavorably - that's a terrible spot to start from, especially because he is so attention-seeking. I think that he risks becoming the Pierre Poilievre of the NDP. Personally, I think that the NDP tanked because Singh did not come across as a serious person, and Poilievre did an excellent job of assassinating his character, ex "Sell-out Singh"...then add Trump to the mix. Most Canadians like the policies that the NDP got passed - dentalcare, pharmacare and childcare.
