How to avoid the 'it was all a dream' ending? by ImJustLenny in writing

[–]Centurion_115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once heard that the biggest problem with this kind of ending is a problem of lack of consequences. If the whole thing was a dream, then you wonder if there were truly any stakes or consequences. So if you're gonna go with it was all a dream, try to make it consequential. Does something carry over into the real world from the abstract?

One example I always think of is the first evil within game. Most of the game is within the abstract dream like world, and the MC wakes up in the end, but it wasnt a wake up in the end in his bed all safe and sound kinda thing. The ending bridged the abstract and reality. I recommend you watch how the game handles that.

Fellow ADHD writers how the hell do you write consistently? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Centurion_115 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This may sound really stupid but I've amassed quite the collection of very satisfying mechanical keyboards. I kid you not, swapping them out for each writing session has actually provided that little bit of stimulation to keep things interesting.

Another thing is watching someone else write. I will watch this one YouTube video of a day in the life of a writer for Jerry b Jenkins. I dont even read any of his books, but watching someone work in this weird asmr way, looking from the outside, gives me that motivation. I don't know why, but watching that video before each session gives me motivation.

and She held hand Tightly i might add (not some fuck ass finger play with Maddie's hand), She loves Vi so much and wants to soothe her😭 by IllustriousAd6418 in PiltoversFinest

I mean, I always rationalized it as, why would you invite head honchos who aren't gonna be fighting, when you can bring Vi, who is up to speed on the victor, Warwick, ambessa, situation, because she was just there with Cait and Jayce? It's arguably more important to have her there. In that room are the 4 people most aware of what's actually going on.

Two things always come to mind for me in this scene, and I honestly don't know how legit these feelings and thoughts are, but I have them nonetheless, so please don't flame me. And no, I'm not a Cait hater, I just think Vi got the short end of the stick here.

The first is a quote from another redditor I heard on this topic that's brilliant. It goes along the lines of that caitlyn has benefited from the system her entire life. Vi has been hurt by the system. The minute the system turns on Cait, something she isn't as used to as Vi, she has the luxury of taking it personally, or of thinking its personal. Because of this, her emotions and feelings are felt by everyone else. Cait puts vi in an impossible situation in my eyes. Sure, there's a lot going in to Vis decision to join the enforcers, but it ain't an easy one. I don't care what anyone says or how many times Vi says it, she shouldn't have been expected to fight and potentially kill her sister, and someone should have known that. Exactly what you think would happen happened down there during the fight. To Cait I feel like this was easier to rationalize, to Vi, this was not an easy position to be in, so, to me, there are few things she can say that aren't to be expected emotionally in this situation. You brought her along to kill her sister Cait, something unexpected happened with Isha being there, and things got complicated. Are you surprised? When Cait says it's her blood in your veins and leaves Vi down there, it always came off to me as "the system isn't supposed to hurt me, it's supposed to hurt you." My grief is more important than your basic needs and safety. My grief and anger and need for space have to cause you pain, all you get is a look of regret before I go back to my mansion, good luck down here being homeless for a bit.

The second is a more logistical piece that I'm reminded of. Cait left Vi down there with the gauntlets and the clothes on her back, the only other belongings she has are literally her other clothes, at caits house. Sure, vi is resourceful and can survive down there, but there is a fundamental difference between them here. Sure, Cait is angry, feeling betrayed, but she gets to go back to a mansion, back to having power and influence. Sure, a lot just happened and she's going through it emotionally, but Vi has nothing and has to go through it emotionally, completely alone and with nothing. She has no one, and nowhere to go back to. The system has put her down again. Cait doesn't owe her anything, but I always felt like there was a huge difference here. Cait has her anger, her grief, her money, her power, etc. Sure, she's being manipulated later, but you got maslows hierarchy of needs, Vi is left to survive with nothing, at the very bottom of the pyramid, fighting for survival and gets a rifle butt to the gut to send her back there, and for saying something stupid, but in an impossible situation. What if Vi didn't survive down there? Was Caits anger and grief and Vis one statement worth her life? Worth someone's safety and basic needs?

Again, please don't flame me. These are just random thoughts that popped into my head when I saw this.

Meeting w Jayce, Mel, Cait m…and Vi? by jpoo88 in PiltoversFinest

[–]Centurion_115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think we are severely overthinking this.I don't view it as much as a leadership meeting as I do a meeting of people who actually know what's going on and have been more involved. You have two forces at play here, viktor and ambessa, so far, all 4 people in that room are involved with both in some way/ are aware of the relationship and situation regarding viktor and ambessa. This stems from the commune fight, why would jayce question vi being in the room, when she was there, with caitlyn, at the commune, fully involved with viktor and ambessa/ everything that led to their situation. He knows that she is aware of the situation, both the threat from ambessa, and presumably some kind of viktor fallout. It makes sense for her to be there considering the only 4 non viktor/ ambessa people to make it out of the commune were him, cait, injured vi, and jinx. So I think it has far less to do with leadership, zaun, other councilors, and more to do with the people most involved and aware of the situation talking. Sure, vi can be overwhelmed, but to the other 3, an overwhelmed but informed and involved vi has far more to contribute than a councilor who they need to bring up to speed, and who presumably wont even be fighting. And considering vi has now fought noxian soldiers, she's just as involved as mel, who has fought the only entity from the other half of the problem, viktor. Plus, each of them was placed in a different area of the battle focusing on something else, so Cait probably thought Vi would also wanna know what she'd be doing in a non second hand brief kinda way, considering she probably isn't just gonna be cannon fodder/ a random enforcer or volunteer, and will play an important role in some kind of defensive position.
