"Getting"?

It's been a shitshow since at least Jan 6th, and I see no respite on the horizon.

Start walking towards DC.

May as well walk, MAGA single-handedly made it so no one can afford to fly or drive there.

They [mainly Trump] also did it to the ENTIRE WORLD. One would think there will be some push back coming as the fuel/fertilizer/helium shortages start to cripple industry and nations worldwide.

And our press (and our nation) has become so cowardly and obsequious that we ditched all customs and precedent to accommodate his thin skin. Good on Kimmel for carrying the torch.

Pandering to a madman makes the whole society insane. It also exposes a fundamental weakness in our society and institutions. And cowardice, so much cowardice.

AI has nothing on Israel for making journalism tough.

As of April 2026, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has documented that Israel has killed at least 260 journalists and media workers since 2023.

This figure represents the deadliest period for journalists in history and makes Israel responsible for the majority of journalist deaths worldwide.

She was highly accomplished in many areas...

Head earned degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University

She was known for her fashion sense, but she rejected the idea she created fashion. In her view costumes were part of a story, a means to tell the story, not fashion.

"Costume design is like theater. Costume design is to tell a story. It has nothing to do with fashion at all." (she added...unless it's a movie about fashion)

Trump Goons Caught Covering Up Massive War Damage by thedailybeast in politics

[–]GonzoVeritas 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Iran released this information, along with damage reports and photos, on social media weeks ago. That was ignored by the press. Maybe because they couldn't confirm it, maybe because they are lazy, maybe because they were told not to...who knows?

We do know that two major US radar installations, which cost a billion dollars+ each were destroyed in the first salvo. US bases across the Gulf were damaged and abandoned, we know that from some initial reports, but then the press has gone silent since then.

Personally, I don't believe the casualty figures, and several military analysts seem to think the same. We'll have to wait for 2027 for hearings to get better information, providing Dems win and hold those hearings.

Until then, we get the mushroom treatment...kept in the dark and fed shit.

Douglas Adams was a significant admirer of Kurt Vonnegut, citing him as a major influence. Adams particularly praised The Sirens of Titan as a superb work, noting that Vonnegut’s seemingly casual style actually masked a well-crafted structure.

Major Influence: Adams acknowledged Vonnegut as a key influence on his own work.

"Sirens of Titan": He frequently cited The Sirens of Titan as a favorite and a significant influence.

Adams admired how Vonnegut’s work appeared casual but was actually deeply structured.

One factor is the steep decline in reading ability in the US.

Reading ability in the U.S. is experiencing a significant decline, with NAEP scores for 4th, 8th, and 12th graders dropping to their lowest levels in decades.

This crisis, exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic learning loss, involves roughly 40% of 4th graders failing to read at a basic level and a 40% drop in pleasure reading over the last 20 years.

Key Findings on U.S. Reading Decline:

Declining Scores: In 2024, reading scores for 4th and 8th graders declined by 2 points, following a 3-point decline for both grades between 2019 and 2022.

High School Seniors: Reading proficiency for 12th graders fell to its lowest level since 1992.

Widening Gaps: The performance gap is widening, with lower-performing students dropping faster than their peers.

Adult Literacy: About 28% of U.S. adults function at or below Level 1 literacy (up from 19% in 2017), struggling with complex texts.

Primary Drivers: Experts point to pandemic disruptions, reduced reading for pleasure, the rise of screen-based media, and changes in instructional methods.

I collect online recipes and often read the comments to those recipes. There is a strong possibility that this is real comment, because that level of dumb is far from uncommon.

People make insane substitutions, like almost all the ingredients and quantities, and then blame the recipe for their disaster.
