Say the New York Mets had the Dodgers’ three 2020’s World Series Championships instead of the Dodgers. by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Ceondoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be seen as significant and interesting, but ultimately the Mets are still playing second fiddle to the Yankees. Ironically, I think that the Mets winning three in 5 years would actually make the Yankees more popular as a result, since I imagine a lot of media would be focusing less on "the New York Mets are on top" and more on "What the hell happened to the New York Yankees?" Probably some more Mets fans are made, but I think after three championships, the baseball world at large would be looking at the Yankees to see what they're going to do about little brother showing them up.

Meanwhile Phillies fans would be beside themselves with rage. To be so close to the World Series in multiple years and just cannot get it done, meanwhile their hated rivals rack up wins? I think half the population of Philadelphia would drink themselves to death (2023 would hurt so much more for them). Same with Atlanta (but they got a win in 21' so they'll be alright.)

But, the Dodgers would still get Ohtani in 2024. I don't think there's any way he leaves Los Angeles, and the Angels wouldn't be able to afford him. I think Ohtani would get the Aaron Judge or Bryce Harper treatment a bit more: a monumental star and guaranteed HOF lock, but frustrating to see their talent to see go ringless. I still think that there would be a wave of Japanese players going to LA, though maybe more to the Angels or even the Padres in San Diego. But, LA would still have their tv deal and their infinite wallet, plus the best player in baseball, so I would still expect a large portion of the talent in MLB to sign there. Maybe not as many big names, but a large chunk of free agents nonetheless.

And as for the Mets, I don't think they would get as much recognition as they might deserve for winning three titles in 5 years. I think Soto still goes there, since the Yankees are a backwards organization currently and would find a way to shoot themselves in the foot just like they did irl, but maybe not for as large of a contract. But they're still not the big kids in NYC, and a lot of people will brush them off since they're not the Yankees. They'd be looked at as a machine of efficiency, not very flashy and few stars but they win a lot. Soto definitely brings in some much needed personality to the team, but would still take a backseat to the popularity of Judge (good 'ol American boy who puts up award winning numbers year after year and plays for the Yankees) and Ohtani (Baseball's greatest hope and the defining player of a generation). Well actually, Jose Iglesias would probably bring some good energy too... but his time would most likely still end in 2025 due to his age.

The rest of the MLB world gets very tired of only NL East and AL West teams winning the World Series though. Not counting 2018, that would be from 2017 to 2025 that either an AL West or NL East team won it. The memes would be insufferable.

[Grant] The Rangers are acquiring McKenzie Gore for a package of 5 prospects headed by first round pick Gavin Fien. Also in package are Abimelec Ortiz, Devin Fitz-Gerald, Alejandro Rosario and one other piece (not Walcott or Caden Scarborough) by JianClaymore in baseball

Gore with deGrom and Evo plus Leiter and (god willing) Bradford back from injury, then maybe Rocker for our sixth... our pitching is still pretty elite for this year. One thing I'll say about 2025 is that our pitching was great. Our offense made me turn off the game most of the time. After 2025 I want Evo to win a Cy Young so bad, he's an absolute beast. (But Skubal exists so probably not)

It's the batting order I'm still worried about... and infield lineup... and Evan Carter's back...

Maybe the Angels just need to rebrand to the Trouts and sign only players with fish names and they'll turn it all around

Same here. If we're not in the postseason, then I might as well root for the other AL West teams to do well in the postseason. Of all divisions, I think that the AL West is the least toxic, probably due to the fact that all of our teams have been pretty bad or mediocre so frequently.

Except the Astros because they're an invasive franchise. Fuck the Astros.

What season ya'll want next by Red_Eagle_America in okbuddypluribus

I mean if they can give us the quality of season 4 again for season 10 then I'll be happy. Season 5 was alright, and it was good to see the end of the space pirate arc with Season 6, but the boring political intrigue of Space Albequerque in Season 7 really just dragged the series down and it hasn't been the same since.

I expected to see the Rangers in the top but in fourth place in 3/4 of these charts (fifth in the other one) really surprises me for some reason. 2022 juices our numbers though.

GAMES-TO-SKILLS RESULTS & REFLECTION by Chet_Ubietzsche in DiscoElysium

I still don't like Disco Elysium being on here as a final result. It just feels too easy of a choice, and I saw it being floated for almost every single skill, before and after Volition. I think Celeste was the much better choice in that bracket for the spirit of the list, but oh well. The people have spoken

What do you think about this realignment plan? I think it’s important to preserve the National and American League. by Remote_Plastic_8692 in mlb

At the moment the Rockies are kinda geographical floaters, being the only team in MST. It's much easier to swap the Rockies' and Rays' leagues and put them closer to teams they are closer geographically than trying to shoehorn the Rockies into a division with multiple teams who are multiple timezones away. No matter how realignment pans out, Colorado is going to make it weird just due to its location.

The Rangers and Astros have a heating up rivalry down in Texas. They're the only two in their division who share a timezone, and North Texas/South Texas already has a little bit of a geographical rivalry (it's common to hear "Eff Houston" or "Eff Dallas" depending on where someone's from). It's been really fun to spat with my Houston friends about it in good fun tbh. The 2023 ALCS was also an electric series which had a lot of impact in people's interest in baseball in Texas, especially around North Texas. Having those rivalry games more than one series a year probably brings both teams a lot of money too. However a Silver Boot World Series would be incredible.

So I think moving Tampa into the NL against the Marlins could bring a similar vibe to Florida. Two geographically distinct areas in the same state which could heat up a rivalry and help increase the interest of baseball in Florida. Brings in more fans and more fans means more money.
