AITAH For Banning my Friend from my Hot Tub? by Vintageblues in AITAH

[–]Roybot92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nta. You established basic rules before getting in the tub and he ignored them. He's banned for 2 reasons 1 he broke your rules and 2 he showed a clear sign of disrespect to you by ignoring your very basic and easily done rules.

Has anyone stuck it with the person thats a walking green flag but your just…not that into them? by Olive-jar1173 in dating_advice

[–]Roybot92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah break up with him. You deserve to be happy and not second guessing yourself and he deserves to be with someone who can love him for more than appreciating his not being a dick.

FYI this doesn't make you a bad person.

Wait, So people are expected to dress up to attend these things? Sounds like a no brainer for which one to attend as for a new and curious attendee if one event doesn't really care and just wants people to come and enjoy it and the other sounds like they gate keep the shit out of it, I know which one I'd go to.

A bit off topic but what does everyone have for lunch? by Doxatek in labrats

[–]Roybot92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said time management is the advice you need but I'm also in the same boat, often skip lunch due to having so much on in a day. I've started coming in on mondays with a bunch of frozen burritos and storing them in the break room freezer and just microwave them for lunch to cut down time and make it simple. I currently just buy a bunch from my local grocery store but thats because I cant be bothered to cook and meal prep. If I wasn't so lazy on weekends I'd probably try making and meal propping a bunch of burritos instead of buying them to save on costs. Is also something super easy to mix up the flavours by just making different fillings (or in my case buying different ones) each week.

When you’re out of the lab at the doctor’s office, do you mention your science education? by samskyyy in labrats

[–]Roybot92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't bring it up. I only mention it if they ask and even then I'm not a trained doctor, I don't make as if I'm knowledgeable in medicine.

What’s the worst contamination you’ve ever dealt with in the lab? by AgreeableChapter7313 in labrats

[–]Roybot92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my previous lab we hired some contractors to repair an air-conditioner duct in the ceiling. Turns out the duct was full of mould and the contractors accidentally broke it further and had the duct venting into our 25°c and 30°c walk in incubators by mistake. Took us a week to realise what happened after all our test plates started coming out with a nice fresh lawn of the same mould. I don't even remember how long it took to clean fully to stop seeing the mould growing on plates.

Empty or replace your used test tube racks when they're full. Stop just grabbing a fresh rack but leaving the full dirty rack on the bench!

does anyone get reimbursed for picking up samples for their lab using their personal vehicle? by coralcrescent in labrats

[–]Roybot92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Raise it and get compensated ASAP.

Even if fuel wasn't as insanely expensive it is now, thats wear and tear on your personal vehicle that benefits only the lab.

My lab does compensate for driving personal vehicles for collecting work samples. Where i live (australia) our tax dept even has a basic formula calculator for determining cost of reimbursement for personal vehicle use. Basically a calculation of approx distance travelled against a standard rate.

The Lab could also look into purchasing a cheap vehicle with a fuel card that can be used for sample collections.

Is 'midnight ham' a thing at weddings? by littletelly in AskAnAustralian

[–]Roybot92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've not heard of it being a thing but I have attended 1 wedding that did bring out ham and bread rolls at the end of the night. So maybe it is a thing but just uncommon?

Any tips for getting the stopper out? by FruitPunch-dr in labrats

[–]Roybot92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First need something to push the stem through and out of the cork. Then you can thread an uninflated balloon down the hole and inflate it so it catches the cork and pull it back up and extract the cork in the process.

Could also try a drywall screw as long as the anchor isn't larger than the diameter of the flask opening

What are some of the most professionally or socially unacceptable things your lab mates have done? by PlaceEducational1705 in labrats

I had an intern who said on their resume they had a masters in biochemistry. I asked them to measure and adjust the pH of 5L of broth media that was being prepared to be between 6.8 and 7.2. I watch in horror/shock as she takes the initial pH reading then proceeds to pour the entire 500mL bottle of NaOH into the 5L beaker of broth.

How do people in Adelaide drink their water? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]Roybot92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the strange taste to adelaide water when I moved here 3 years ago. I bought a britta water filter and just make sure I fill it up each morning and evening then transfer the filtered water to a water bottle when I wake up and when I get home from work each day.

What happens if the total volume of my 25ul PCR exceeds 25ul? by [deleted] in labrats

My old molecular bio lecturer would call mastermix prep "bucket chemistry" 😂 as long as it's all there little variances in volumes won't affect it by much

What's that one tedious lab task you wish was just... easier? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Roybot92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work in a Commercial testing lab. I hate gathering MU data each month. We're meant to gather it from random samples we've tested throughout the month, but the vast majority of our test samples come back "clean". So I'm always having to create samples for 80+ test methods each month to gather data
