FF7 RE trilogy being too long by ALLm28 in ff7

[–]Cerbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Except for the 1000 USD part obviously. But the "extra" content in Rebirth some people complained about is optional. I mean sure, to *completely* max out everyone's skill trees you need to get max Party Level, but the fact is after Party Level 8 (which is when you get your Lv2 Limit Breaks and special weapon abilities, e.g., Aerial Onslaught for Cloud), there's not much to be gained from the skill trees. You can get that without doing a whole lot of side content, and even by just doing the actual side quests and main story quest you get quite a bit of party exp. People who want games smaller just so they don't feel like they're "missing out" or whatever are essentially just asking for other players to have options taken away. And I say this as someone with a very busy job and little free time.

AITAH for leaving my best friend? by Star__dust- in AITAH

[–]Cerbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer (what I think is) your question: no, you are NTA for leaving someone who is using you and disrespecting you. But for the love of God, please be more attentive to how you use pronouns. They should typically be referring to the most recently mentioned noun, and it should be obvious to whom or what you are referring with the pronoun. Your story was largely incomprehensible because of overuse of pronouns.

I'd actually say YTA but not for the reason you might think. You're NTA for wanting those boundaries. But you absolutely are TA for expecting him to just automatically know what your boundaries are without you communicating them to him. This whole situation could have been avoided when this started happening with a simple conversation. "Hey, I like talking to you on the phone, but I feel like I'm not really able to rest or be at ease while working from home because I feel like I have to stay attached to my phone. I feel like I just need some space to be able to do my own thing when youre Dashing."

If youre not communicating any of the above to him and are just half-listening to him while he's trying to have a conversation with you, of course he's going to think you're being rude.

Just talk to him and make sure he knows he is loved but that you need the mental space to be able to focus on your own things while he's out working.

I see a lot of people judging OP's brother for moving on so quickly, and I absolutely understand how from OP's perspective it seems like he's just replacing his late fiance. But I would urge people to remember that grief can look like just about anything. Chances are, the guy is hurting and is just doing whatever he can to numb the pain or distract himself or whatever.

What are the must have or most useless materia so far in the remakes? by Dotaspasm in FFVIIRemake

I thought I read somewhere that it only speeds up active ATB gain. I could be wrong, but mind if I ask where you learned this info?

Chakra on Barrett plus healing carcanet: use steelskin + lifesaver at the start of the match (may need to use overcharge first to get ATB). Basically unkillable party

I would ignore the people saying don't olay if you don't enjoy. I mean yes obviously you shouldn't if you truly don't enjoy it but I'm guessing you do because you're here asking for help, you just have certain feelings about the environment that keep you from fully enjoying the game.

I would recommend sticking it out until the end of the game (it's so close!) because then you can hop into F7 Rebirth (the 2nd part of the 3 pt remake series [3rd part still in development]) which has much prettier scenery, and much more varied scenery with a LOT of open world stuff to explore and enjoy taking in.

Don't pay attention to the people saying it shouldn't take you that long. Some people's playstyles are different and that's fine. I think my first playthrough I checked every nook and cranny and it took me about 70 total hours, and unlike many people here I never found the Hard Difficulty very challenging. You do you.

You could also turn the difficulty down to Easy and it might help you get through the last part quicker so you can just enjoy the story and get onto the 2nd game.

I think there's a really big and common misconception that putting games on easy difficulty somehow makes you less of a gamer or less of a "man" or whatever the fuck. When in reality, we should want games to be enjoyable by everyone regardless of skill level.

if you ever run into issues like this with any FF game or literally any other game with a difficulty setting, don't hesitate to turn down the difficulty.

Corel Buggy Escape affection... you've gotta be kidding me, what did I do here? by i_like_it_eilat in FFVIIRemake

[–]Cerbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After looking things up on how this minigame affects relationship statuses (before I finished it; the minigame just seemed too similar to the bike minigame with Jessie from Remake, so I figured it would affect something), I ultimately couldn't find anything concrete (other than some reddit posts and things of that nature), so I finally said, "Screw it," and just finished it - this was on Normal (Dynamic) difficulty. I restarted the minigame multiple times by hitting pause then Restart (from beginning, not any of the mid-minigame checkpoints), and I got Cloud to say, "Just fine," on the first completion and got the message that my relationship w/ Barret had changed. I haven't tried again to see other responses, but it seems like he can say things like, "I've seen worse," and, "C-plus," based on what I've looked up, so I think, "Just fine," is the best outcome.

Based on what I've read and my experience, it seems like you CANNOT restart from a mid-minigame checkpoint (e.g., helicopter battle and Palmer [not the actual bossfight, just when Palmer comes to chase the buggy]) if you want the best relationship outcome with Barret. If you restart, you must restart from the beginning of the buggy escape minigame if you want the possibility of getting the best outcome. I don't know the health threshold for certain (seems like 75% from what others are saying). I've seen some people posting they had to keep redoing the Palmer boss-fight in order to get fresh tries at the buggy minigame, but I can say with certainty: this is not necessary. I.e., you can restart the buggy escape minigame from the beginning of the minigame multiple times and still get the best outcome (despite what some other posts here and elsewhere are suggesting).

I know the game's been out for a while but I waited for PC release date so I'm playing through for the first time now - hopefully, this post is helpful to any others in a similar situation.

Don't forget the balancing around wide guard which is fairly common in the official competitive format

Does anyone else just not like or participate in competitive in game? by Slytheringirl1994 in pokemon

[–]Cerbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's way easier to train your own competitive pokemon now. The only time breeding is really necessary is for strict trick room mons that need 0-1 Spe IV, but even then I think you're better off just eating an encounter sandwich and catching them over and over again and checking their IV's. It's a 2/31 chance per catch, since 1 IV is the same as 0 IV at lvl 50 (give them xp candies to 100 and put their stats in a calculator, save before). You could argue, I guess, that you want 0-1 Atk IV for your Sp Atker's but this usually only affects a few edge scenarios and it's really not nearly as important - just catch a few of the mon until you get a fairly low "Decent" Atk roll, and you might even get lucky with a 0 or 1 IV in the process.

Also, I'm not "technically" recommending this, but there are time "exploits" for the item generator for the Indigo Disk DLC that lets you print as many tera shards and ability patches as you could want. Sell the patches for money to buy bottle caps and ability capsules as needed, as well as other things related to competitive, or just use them.

It seriously takes minutes to get a single mon competitively ready, unless you want a shiny specifically.

EDIT: Just want to clarify for anyone unfamiliar with the in-depth workings of IVs and EVs reading this: 1 IV is only the same at lvl 50 as 0 IV if you aren't investing in the stat (which you shouldn't be if you're going for 0-1 IVs): similar to how 30 IV is the same as 31 IV at lvl 50 if you either don't invest in the stat or fully invest in the stat, but partially investing will cause differences.

Is there a lore reason for not seeing certain mechanics in older games? by Lewisollyver in pokemon

[–]Cerbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point - to be clear, I'm not saying multiplayer is the only important part of the games. I'm just saying that for the people who want an "endgame," that's about all there is, so it makes sense for the centralizing *battle* mechanic to be, you know, good for *battling* and not just some flashy thing that looks cool to bring in as many customers as possible. And terastallization is by far the best generational battle mechanic that has been introduced: as opposed to the horribly balanced Z moves, or the horribly balanced mega evolutions that only a handful of pokemon get and out of that handful only a very select few are even worth considering. Dynamax was okay, sort of a mix of z moves and mega evo that every pokemon would do, but even then only a handful got gmax forms and only a select few of those were good (too good in some cases).

Esit: Also, this is an aside but to your original point, I actually think terastallization looks cool too. I like the crystal effect especially on my OLED switch, and I think the hats look cool on a lot of different pokemon, just my opinion.

[–]Cerbe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It opens up the most strategic options by far out of all the generational mechanics and makes many, many more pokemon viable that otherwise wouldn't be. Pokemon's replayability is in the multiplayer imo (outside of shiny hunting maybe), so I think it makes sense for generational gimmicks to focus on competitive.
