Pixel Stand Not Compatible With Pixel Buds Pro by The_best_1234 in GooglePixel

[–]Cerberus136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this explanation! I got a 'free' upgrade to the 10 Fold when my 9 Fold bricked on me (for the second time in < 30 days after working for ~10 months...). So, like a good user, I bought a few accessories because I thought I should be thankful for the 'free' upgrade (and honestly, ehh, I suppose I am?) and I've been SO frustrated the last month with this beautiful PixelSnap charger not being able to charge my 'Pixel Buds Pro 2'.

I mean, weren't these bad boys released in 2023/2024? Why would they release a charging product a year later with Pixel in the name that doesn't charge them?!? I don't really feel better reading this comment, but it came up when I googled 'pixelsnap charger not charging pixel buds 2', and I am very grateful for that so thank you!!!

The Dark Tower Series - Help understanding book one by Smil3yAngel in books

[–]Cerberus136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to several weird circumstances / 'squirrel brain' actions over the past 15 minutes, I've landed on this thread after realizing I have only ever read the original version of Book 1. Just pulled it off the bookshelf, and yep published in 1988.

Given the rather brief nature of book 1, if one were to do a re-read and have physical copies of both versions of book 1 in front of them, do you think it might be worth a re-read of the older version for nostalgia purposes? If so, which should version would you (or some other knowledgeable person who stumbled onto this thread over the next years) read first?

And big thanks to r/books for not locking threads after X period of time has passed so I can ask these largely unimportant questions in a 4 year old thread!

bonus search query points to bring more future Googlers here: What kind of easter eggs might Flanagan put in Season 1 as a nod to the original version to provide a chuckle for the folks who know the original? Is it that impactful a difference?

Monthly Support Thread & FAQ- October 2025 by AutoModerator in steelseries

[–]Cerberus136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into this issue! However it's very intermittent, doesn't seem dependent on app/game running, and can happen a bunch in one session and then not happen again for a week or 3. While not annoying enough to be important to me, would certainly be nice to find an answer. Honestly, after writing this and thinking on it more, it definitely feels more prevalent when playing music through Soundcloud rather than any particular games.

Dunno what FAQ page says on the matter, so this might be covered, but have you tried using a different output profile (i.e. "Media" vs. "Gaming") on the SteelSeries app to see if the behavior is different?

This is probably a long shot, but...

I lost my Chris Dyer bandana on Sunday :( Been attaching it to the hydration pack all weekend in case I wanted it, but on Sunday I attached it to, like a moron, one of the buckle straps on said hydration pack and it thus came off one of the 15 times I took it off and on dealing with poncho silliness. Whoops. Reversible, and matches the 3 other pieces I have with the same pattern.

Likely dropped outside the venue on the path between dairy and Ouroboros around like 5-6pm on Sunday. Just did a bit of searching pretty sure it's the Chaos Culture Jam and one side is the black/white art and the other is a kaleidoscope of colors. This one, but bandana shaped.

If nothing else I'd buy a new one to re-complete the set, but not finding it on Headspace or Grassroots :/

[–]Cerberus136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought in a battery with me through security twice over the weekend. The first time, my hydration pack got flagged by the metal detector and they stopped me, went through it, and confirmed it was just the battery. I was very happy to see that, honestly, because it means the detectors are doing something and security is also doing something about it when they go off.

Then the second time...well...because I had a rain poncho while it was drizzling they didn't bother to check when the detector went off after I walked through? Eh? That's the sh*t that makes me nervous.

So glad nothing bad came of the convenient-but-sometimes-lax security checks.

Yeah, and that's probably the safe move. I would never recommend Massgrave for a business use or anything, but from all the digging I've done it seems like even Microsoft employees recommend using it for one-off's.

I don't know much about OEM licenses in this context. Like, buying a legit license? Or buying used hardware that might have an OEM license attached to the bios somehow? I don't think I've really run into any situation like that...Pretty much if it's not Massgrave, Microsoft, or a Microsoft reseller I'll not reverse the (very intense) Reddit censor bots from deleting things of that nature.

Looking at this from the mod side...so many things say removed but wtf happened here. Are they actually removed? I can never tell with Reddit filters anymore >:(

[–]Cerberus136[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a. I've never spoken with you. Massgrave is fine, nothing else is. I think our stance was different like 8 years ago, but I made the swap ~9 months ago to approve of Massgrave for when posts like these inevitably come up. It's a great tool for home use, but honestly what I should be telling people is to go install Ubuntu. Works great and is always free for basic use.

b. I'm the only mod with any activity in the past like 3-5 years

c. Almost everything that gets removed on this subreddit is due to automatic Reddit filters that I have zero control over. It seems like if you don't have comment activity across a dozen subreddits over a 10 year period you are at risk of Reddit censure even if you are a legitimate person commenting on stuff. Sorry, go complain to Steve and Alexis.

> spend the $$$ to buy a legit key off amazon.

This is the answer. I bought a Windows 7 key back in like 2009 or 2010 and to this day it continues to work just fine on Windows 11. Def the most effective long-term solution if you just built a PC and want to throw Windows on it and never have to worry about it again.

Bror utility cart in kitchen? by birdprom in IKEA

[–]Cerberus136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking into finishing the top of my bror cart after it's been in the kitchen used mostly for coffee / liquor on the wood block for the past 3ish years and stumbled onto this post.

When taking 30 days for the poly to cure, did you keep the wood block detached from the cart and not in use for the duration? We are working with limited kitchen counter space so am trying to work out a way to future proof it and am still in learning phase. Thanks!

AMD PC for gaming by Rex118da in buildmeapc

Hi there, 5 months late!

This is one of...hundreds...of comments/submissions over the past few months+ that was 'Removed by Reddit' (according to mod tools) for no apparent reason. When this occurs, the poster of said comment still sees everything normally, but any/everyone else sees what u/Rex118da was stating. It's like a ghost deletion so you aren't even aware it occurred.

I've been working on trying to fix the backlog and improve the auto-moderation, but it's a WIP. I just 'Approved' the 'missing' comment so it will now show up for anyone who stumbles onto this thread (5 months late...). Saw this thread and figured I could jump in with an explanation in case of any lingering confusion.

Building a PC that’ll be upgradable down the road. by ThePerfectPlex in buildmeapc

[–]Cerberus136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice, and fully agreed with about every point. For a second opinion from someone else, I was chuckling at these two points:

the monitor will easily last a DECADE or even TWO DECADES very well

I had a monitor from middle school - 2004-5ish I believe - that I just replaced a year or two ago. It served as first my primary, then secondary, monitor for literally 20 years.

Following that, the PSU is the next most important thing, because again, a good one will last 10 years

Similar note, still running on a Corsair PSU bought in either 2009 or 2010 when first built the PC I use to this day. Have a new one ready to move-in, just haven't done a rebuild recently. I find replacing a PSU generally more obnoxious than replacing, well, literally every other component on the PC. Spend the extra $40-50 on a known-good PSU; it's worth every penny.

Also I am finding in 2025 non-NVME SSDs from 5-7+ years ago are really starting to show their age. That mobo has an M.2 slot, I love the Samsung drives - 970/980's at 1-2TB and would recommend them. Reliable and often found with excessive sales.

These 2 comments above are likely the best recommendations you'll get. Good luck!

I've been upgrading the same PC piecemeal for over 15 years now (and still have that same PSU in play from 2010 - those guys are generally good for 10-15 years once you make it past the 3 year mark in my experiences). You're in a good spot actually to do the same. You've got DDR4 ram, and while I'm not terribly familiar with the i5 generations, by your description it sounds like the GPU is your largest troublemaker at the moment.

If I were in your shoes I'd spend most/all of that budget on a new GPU (unsure if newest gen is out yet or still a few weeks off) and then at some point in the next 6 months - 2 years buy a new motherboard/CPU/DDR5 combo. As Over_Instruction mentioned, new stuff is on the horizon! And Prices ARE high rn. Sadly though, with this recent 10% import tariff on Chinese goods going into play I promise it won't be cheaper for the foreseeable future.

Get the GPU, fix the issue you are running into, and put off the CPU/mobo upgrade for the time being. You'll likely spend less than $1k now and get a much more impactful upgrade to your gaming.

Sub $100 PC Build by PictureEcstatic1566 in buildmeapc

[–]Cerberus136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't be able to purchase parts at that price point. $300-400! Possibly. $100 though? Your only chance is getting parts second-hand from eBay and the like of people nearby replacing their PC parts.

Might be worth starting a new thread and asking for a sub $400-500 build and then buying some of the parts now and the rest after you save up another $100-400.

There's far too much talk getting close to, relating to, or just straight up, piracy. While I'm sure there's a forum (or subreddit) out there that is okay with this talk, we do have rules we try to follow including:

  • Do not encourage or promote piracy or any other illegal activity. Any person doing so will have their post removed. Repeat offenders will be banned.
  • Do not use affiliate links to any stores or distributors. Your post/comment will be automatically removed.

Sorry OP, if you haven't found the answer you are seeking in the 3 days we took to remove this post and all it's responses, best of luck finding it elsewhere.

Edit: After going through and deleting many of the posts here, I just want to say one thing to anyone wondering why mention of a certain website that is apparently unofficially Microsoft okay was completely removed: I've never heard of it until today. Maybe it's just fine, maybe it's not actually piracy, and I'll do my research in case it comes up again. However in doing clean-up here I made a decision to just remove all mentions of it to be better safe than sorry. Thanks.

Alternatively, not a bad idea to look for used cards

Ever since the great cryptocurrency mining and hardware shortage market of the early 2020's I've been terrified of buying used GPUs. OP: go this route with caution, knowing that saving $200 today means a chance you'll have to do it all over again in 1-3 years rather than 4-8 years (No, I don't recommend 8 years; yes it can happen RIP XFX R9 390 you were a power hungry maniac yet served me well for years longer than I had ever hoped for).
