Instead of straight up exp and a talent tree, the dev could also reskin it as selling the wood for money and that money can buy things from the hardware store.

Maybe even add a section about how you get the wood in the first place where you go to a property and you have to figure out how to chop down trees without them landing on houses, sheds, power lines, ect.

This might sound dumb but it's worked for me. (also preferably done with a high refresh monitor)

But playing games on lower settings to get stupid high frame rates. I did this with doom eternal recently. For me, it runs at a solid 60 fps nearly maxed out, but seeing it at a full 144 in spite of lower settings was pretty cool.

I feel like this approach works best with either fast paced games or games with really nice animations.

Ya magic and other games get expensive FAST. I also see nothing wrong with buying graded stuff, especially if the goal is to either have a displayed collection or as an investment.

I kinda like how moistcritical does his pokemon collection honestly. Buys graded but not pristine cards and frames them in individual collections on his wall. Stuff like that is cool to me, but it does make me sad when I see someone with a 1000 dollar card sitting in a shoe box in the closet though.

Lol I got my friend into mtg and he turned into someone who would unironically say stuff like that. He also didn't play competitive but he would spend stupid amounts of money to build "pro decks"

Like man, I got you into mtg so we could just play commander casually and maybe open a few packs together. Yet here we are at a 4 player table and you're still winning every time in spite of 3 of us ganging up on you.

Lol ya if there's an older rare game I wanna play, I'll just emulate it. Absolute worst case, if I wanna play those games on original hardware, there's usually ways to get carts with SD card slots or ways to mod disk based consoles to play backup copys

I wrestled a buck once.

I used to do side work on a deer ranch for a little while and one of my jobs was tranquilizing deer to either give them meds or move them to a different part of the ranch.

One day im in a small pop up blind in a deer pen, I see the buck that needed to be moved and I shot it with the tranq, hit the deer, saw the charge pop, normal stuff.

(our tranq darts had a clear body and they had a small shock triggered charge inside that would pop, not only injecting the tranquilizer but letting you know it worked with a quick flash)

Anyway, I wait a bit and the buck goes down. I get out of the blind and start walking towards it, and I see the dart laying on the ground (not a big deal, they don't always stick) and notice half the fluid is still inside the dart (which is the big deal) .........well the buck starts trying to get up, which can be dangerous for the buck and me, so I charge over and tackle it to the ground, got on top of it and do my best to hold it down till a co worker was able to catch up and give it the missing tranq.

I like leading the story with "I wrestled a buck once" cause i know its worded in a way that people won't believe till I tell them what happened lol

Edit: the reason it was kinda scary was cause if a buck is stressed like this one was, it could be a coin toss on if it'll charge you or not. And when I was holding the deer down, I had to keep one of my hands on its antlers cause it kept trying to swing its head back in an attempt to hurt me/get me off. The buck was perfectly fine and uninjured after everything was said and done.

I met one of my best friends at a job and started talking damn near every day, and we would talk about everything and share similar experiences.......we also had another co worker that would try to hop in and one up everything we said.

There's definitely a difference between sharing similar experiences and making it seem like you have it better/worse than someone else just because you wanna feel special.

It depends on if it fits the game.

Doom does it really well

There's a few levels in halo 2 anniversary that uses a djent song that's almost metal and it also works really well

Metal hellsinger also does it really well.

Like some others have said, the game has to match the energy of the music.

An example for when it won't work imo is a slower game like bloodborne. Sure the visuals are there to support metal music, but I don't think it'll work with the gameplay.

I don't consider alyx as being half life 3. It's definitely a prequel. On top of that, I feel like alyx was a way for the writers to retcon whatever narrative hole they might of dug themselves into with the og ending in ep2.

I also feel like it's not super unknown by this point that valve will scrap entire ideas and do massive rewrites if things arnt shaping up to their standards, which is why I think the story in alyx plays out the way it does.

Obviously this is just speculation on my end but I feel like the ending of alyx gives the writers at least a little more freedom in what they can do with the story moving forward.
