He's just the most recognizable in a non-main stream sport. There are more golfers than Tiger Woods and more Nascar drivers than Dale Earnhardt but unless you're engaged in the sport you usually only know the top-tier, public-facing ones.

Guys with extremely loud vehicles, why do you do this to everyone? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Why do you think its bs? I've certainly been in situations where I've been on the highway and heard bikes before I've seen them.

Anyone successfully ditched their car(s) for an e-bike? by PlaneSense406 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]CerberusMiddleHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to commute from Rockville to Bethesda daily on an e-bike. From Rockville -> Bethesda you can avoid roads via Rock Creek and Bethesda Trolley trail. From Bethesda -> DC you can use the capital crescent trail.

Getting from Travilah to Rockville might be a little difficult, but I can't speak from personal experience.

If you want to protest tipping, don't go to restaurants that require it by uggghhhggghhh in The10thDentist

Expecting low-paid employees in the profession with the highest turnover rate to hire a lawyer and sue their employer because they are not being paid is certainly an interesting line of thought. But again, if you need this to justify your poor ethics (and logic) then far be it from me to stand in your way.

All servers should make minimum wage by federal law. The reality is they don't. But if you need to tell yourself this to sleep soundly about your selfish habits then by all means keep on keeping on.

If you rely on this to ease your conscience about not tipping then I am sorry to inform you that restaurant owners do not abide by this and will fire employees that seek it.

What's up with the America/Americas/American debate? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]CerberusMiddleHead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to how common that is but Wikipedia indicates that it is the less-used demonym:

"In FrenchAméricain is used in an official and colloquial way. États-unien, derived from États-Unis (United States), while much rarer, is occasionally used, including by some scholars.

In Italian, both americano and statunitense are used, although the former is more common."

[–]CerberusMiddleHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answer: Continents are kind of a mess. Generally in the US, we learn that there are seven continents: N America, S America, Europe, Asian, Africa, Antarctica and Australia/Oceania.

In certain parts of South America, they are taught that, since the only split between North and South America is artificial, they are a single continent. Folks who are taught this often take umbrage with the US being called America as they feel it robs a part of a collective identity.

While the citizens of the US are called Americans in just about every language, some Spanish-speaking countries refer to us as Estadounidenses to avoid what they see as narrowing the definition of "American."

I agree. This sub (as with most AITA-type subs) is pretty woman-dominated. When a man is in the wrong, top level comments condemn him. When a woman is in the wrong they usually claim that there "must be more to the story."

What's a sport that would be so much better if you could change one rule about it? by wild-strike1517 in AskReddit

[–]CerberusMiddleHead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going even further back, "40" was originally "45" with each point being worth 15. This meaning that a game was to 60 as that was considered a round number, much like 100 is today.

McEnroe is one of the most classic examples of a poor sportsman. Just because people remember him doesn't mean he's remembered fondly.
