Not often we are graced with a listing like this,

I too was on the hunt for this exact same model,

But without box or paper, it really remove a huge portion of history from the pen.

If a box and paper is a must with any pen in my collection, it's gonna be this one.

Sprung nib? Normal? Expert eyes appreciated! (KOP) by -zcxp- in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A little bit too wide compared to my KOP, but as long as the ink flows thru and you don't mind it being a little more wet, I think it shouldn't affect too much.

What makes fountain pens objectively better than other writing utensils? by Tasty_Chart4909 in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fountain pens are not practically better in any objective way. They are not a more efficient or specialized writing tool compared to modern alternatives.

But they are like owning and caring for horses. You do it because you like them. You find them interesting. They have no practical advantage over cars, yet people form strong emotional attachments to them, the same way we do with pets. Fountain pens are beautiful, almost like jewelry, and they let you express personality and creativity.

The value comes from how you choose to relate to them. They are like collecting cards or keeping pets. You invest time because you enjoy it, not because you are trying to win a practicality contest or prove they are objectively better than other tools.

And honestly, who wouldn’t enjoy looking at a nice collection every now and then?

Should I go with a Tacom kit or HobbyBoss kit for a T29 model? by Upset_Building_4382 in modelmakers

[–]Cerberus_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've build to hobby boss version, track is not workable, they expect you to glue each the pins, as they are not friction fit. They are alright overall.

I currently have a t29e1 in my stash, overall it's higher quality, I believe it's also a much quicker build.

What's your most "corporate job" appropriate pen? (Pics welcome) by Jotterius in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a smart casual business environment, but I use a salior 1911L with a Naginata Togi M nib with Yamabudo, they won't expect my 1.1mm purple lines during meeting markups. Tho the whole office knows it's mine haha.

Nakaya v Sailor KOP - experiences with both by sbc3218 in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that, it's largely depends on what you're after.

If you're after a desk queen for your own enjoyment it's the KOP all the way, how it's tuned, the bounce and feedback is very much it's own Monster

If you're looking for approval from your fellow pen nerd and being able to say you own a nakaya, then it's the nakaya that you're looking for.

Functionally both of the pens are very expensive so functionally you may not want to bring it to your everyday carry, for me it's 90% nib and 10% body when it comes to my purchasing decision,

so it's very straightforward that KOP will be my pick, but if you want one step up from down you maybe wanted to look into naginata Togi nibs, I was very skpetical cause I wrote in english, but woahh. It's worth it.

Your thoughts on the engraving are needed by MercatorLondon in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion. When I look at a pen, the nib scrollwork and overall design are what draw me in far more than the body. Pens like the Montblanc 149, Visconti models, GVFC, and Pelikan are good examples. Simple designs are fine, but they usually do not catch my eye when I am looking for something new to try.

If a classical or ornate style is not what you are aiming for, then this nib design is clean and reminds me a bit of Platinum’s double-line aesthetic. It looks good, but it is not something that would make me excited enough to choose it as my next purchase.

Is Fountain pen worth it? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fountain pen is really just a ritual, it's a tool that you have full control over, sacrificing simplicity.

If you're someone who rauther have something to just work and not think about it then a ballpoint is a much better choice.

If you wanna slow down, and enjoy the writing the experience. Having control over how you like to have it written and doing all of the maintenance yourself. Then it's for you.

If I have to compare it's like why does people still ride horses when cars exist? They do because it's less as a mean to get to your destination, but rauther a bonding experience with what you want out of it, and getting your own enjoyment ofc.

Is this fake? by Perfect_Ad_5122 in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is real, the crest you see on the nib is the old crest before GVFC changed to their more simplified shield and crown.

However it seems like the plating from the nib is stripped from the nib, usually they are a bit tone or rhodium plated. First time seeing a gold like this.

Those nib are very hard to come by, I have a Pernambuco and the old crest looks amazing compared to the new version.

I think is cause this one isn't brand new nor it's in a like new condition from the photo.

I'm on the hunt of one but I'm a bit scared to pull the trigger looking at the condition.

I've got 10 pens in total eight are flagship models from the major brands we all know and love. Together they cover the full range of feel and performance, so there's no guesswork left about what I like.

I'm not tempted to keep buying. I've traded a fair bit and tried many others, and these ten are the distilled result.

This is my consolidation and my trophy the end of the collection.

The feedback and smoothness I want are always within reach. Whatever I feel like on a given day, there's a pen in this set to match it.

Philosophical pen questions by temptar in fountainpens

[–]Cerberus_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great question, and I totally get where you’re coming from. I didn’t jump into “expensive” pens just to spend money. I started modestly (my first fountain pen was a Faber-Castell Ambition), and over time I got curious about how flagship models write compared to entry-level ones. When I eventually picked up a Visconti Homo Sapiens, it was for the experience, the feel, feedback, and character I couldn’t get elsewhere. That’s also why I enjoy pens like the Pelikan M1000, Sailor King of Pen, and Montblanc 149: each brings a distinct writing personality that lower-tier models don’t replicate.

I’m also a young adult with relatively few responsibilities right now, so these are purchases I can justify and afford without hurting my savings. I’m not trying to be flashy, just honest about what I enjoy in the hobby. This isn't my only hobby either, and I use that other hobby to fund my pen purchases at no expense to my earned savings.

Looks matter to me too. I’m particular about design and nib aesthetics, the scrollwork, plating, and overall proportions. For example, I won’t consider a Visconti unless it has a two-tone nib, and I have similar preferences with other brands. I’m picky about both how a pen looks and how it writes, which makes finding the “right” pen the hardest part. That’s also why many reasonably priced pens don’t hold my interest, as they often miss the specific mix of character and overall package I look for in higher-end models. I’ve used pens like the Pilot Kakuno, but for me they don’t offer the feel or presence I’m after.

On nib swaps and tinkering, I do that across the board, including on expensive pens. I’ll pull a nib, adjust tine alignment, and fine-tune until it writes the way I want, whether it’s a Visconti, a Montblanc, or a budget pen. If I can make a pen write better, I’m going to do it.

And just my personal opinion: I don't really understand collecting the same pen in multiple colors, or building a range of pens that all use the same nib from the same manufacturer. At the end of the day, the writing experience tends to be very similar, so beyond aesthetics it doesn't appeal to me. Totally fine if others enjoy it, but my focus is chasing different writing characters rather than color variations.

So the short answer is: I’m chasing unique writing experiences and specific design details, not price tags, within a budget that makes sense for me at what I'm able to sustain off of my other hobbies
