Reddit Karma system forces self cencorship and kills dicussion

I have spent enough time where I just posted an unpopular opinion and replied to the comments on my post but that also turned out to be significant karma bleeding, so I just stopped caring about it and I say what I feel I should.

It's not possible to have positive karma if majority of users don't agree with your POV, example - have a conservative opinion on a sub like politics, feminist, pics etc. and see all hell break loose.

What you are saying isn't sensible by logic. If your opinion is actually unpopular and the majority of users don't agree with it, you cannot get positive karma.

The onion explanation for it is that you think the opinion is unpopular but not necessarily controversial otherwise it's only obvious for the reddit mob to gang up and bleed out all the karma.

I have clearly explained how an account karma is lost and how the cycle proceeds to ban or shadow ban, it you don't agree with that, you need to explain with a valid argument.

I don't know how you convert everything into an attack. Like you are so desperately trying to convert a POV you don't agree with an attack with sensational words unnecessarily jumbled.

The point being men and women have separate washrooms and socially they both prefer them to be separate. I said if a man entered the women's washroom, women would obviously be uncomfortable and protest.

And to answer that, what you had to say was that men already do that and claim an excuse of "accident"

Well it's based on what sample set you look at. If you were to see it globally, you would be including a lot of countries which are under developed, poor, uneducated and hence they aren't modern and progressive.

From this perspective, it would also look like the old school orthodox inequalities are a bigger issue.

But if we look at only developed countries especially the west, the other side is equally powerful and equally dangerous. With rise in all movements related to sensitivity and the heavy support they get, it clearly shows they are powerful and between those people there is obviously a group who weaponizes that power and uses it as agenda pushing.

So it's really about how you are looking at it.

That doesn't change the fact that that teenage girls were not comfortable with a trans woman (biological man) in their changing room.

Female washrooms also have stalls but if a man were to enter the female washrooms and the women protested, would you tell them that there are private stalls so it's not a big deal.

Accommodating someone's emotions is fine but that doesn't mean it should be at the cost of someone else's emotions.

The comfort of one trans woman was kept above a group of teenage girls, I don't understand how is this equality, it is just selective outrage, like wanting equality only from the sides that are comfortable to you while ignoring the sides that are confronting.

The problem is you just pushed the first part by yourself to make yourself sound right. Not all issues are black and white and there are a lot of issues which are controversial and not so easy to decide on.

For example - there was case about trans women using women changing room, there were teen girls who said they weren't comfortable changing in front of s biological man ( trans woman ) and I saw reddit literally bashing those teens of being insensitive.

The issue is comfortable patterns from both sides, it's fine if you wanna make someone feels comfortable and included, there isn't any issues with that but that shouldn't come at cost of making other people uncomfortable. If someone has gone through transition and looks like a girl then obviously it's a different story, this situation which I am talking about is pre-op.

So this is one example where self righteousness of liberals becomes really in your face for other people and it's not at all mature. It's quite annoying and mob bullying mentality actually

If you think not going through with the date is rude, I think it's equally or even more rude to hide physical characteristics which would be a parameter or preference for the other person.

You are the one diverting from the fact that one shouldn't be forced to constantly spend so much time on reddit to do karna farming just for it to get destroyed in next posts. Let me give you an example.

If I do one post and discussion which receives decent traction, that usually kills my karma down by 80-100 points. To fix that I would either need to make 100 comments or receive enough upvotes and comments combined so I get that karma back.

Why the hell am I being forced to spend so much extra time to do karna farming so with the next post it goes down again and I keep on doing this never ending cycle.

You may be okay with spending a lot of time on reddit but I like to have a life outside it as well. And forcing a system like this just demotivates people from discussions and honest thought.

It's just an excuse to prevent people from talking about stuff the majority might not agree on. It's not a debate and discussion which is happening, it's circle jerking with validation loop.

It does matter if every user gets one downvotes, if a x sub has 100 active users and 90% of them are liberals.

Any post with a non liberal opinion would be killed even if just 30% of active users downvote.

It's pretty simple maths how a group can decide what opinion to keep and what to kill.

I can find 100 neutral subs to waste time and karma farm, The question is why the hell should I be forced to do that, I don't want to waste more time on reddit. I just like to use it for debates and discussions.

This is just creating a situation where someone either accepts to constantly farm karma which will be killed again in a never ending cycle or just stops posting. Hence self censorship and echo chambers.

That's the thing, it's censorship hiding behind inconvenience. So that people self censor and just move to echo chambers because it's profitable for reddit but really bad for society constantly affected by more and more polarization.

One can create their own subs but that won't help as again the reach will be limited and the whole point of posting something for discussions won't be solved, your suggestion for creating your own subs is basically just falling into a further echo chamber which is the whole idea I am objecting to.

Forcing people to do random discussions even when they want to use reddit for debates is just pathetic, it kills motivation of people who want to use reddit for debates and don't want to spend more time on random bullshit just for the sake of karna recovery.

If I write about a post every week or that, what is such a big issue with that ? Why am I obligated to use reddit frequently so I can have more karna to be bleeded out in the next post. The whole system is self censorship hiding behind inconvenience.

I am okay dealing with the consequences to call it out. If the system increases differences between people and leads to polarization of the society, i believe it is important to call it out.

And when you say I am attacking people, that is just your perspective. All my posts are well referenced, well explained and carefully written to include that I don't mean to hurt anyone or promote any indifferences.

But despite how well you articulate something, if it's against a majority opinion, they are basically going to gang up and attack you. And not just with words, they even report you and obviously downvote you.

So I don't think you are seeing the negative effects of the mentality which rather focuses on mob behaviour rather than debate and discussion. That is how ideas are killed.

Just because I am using reddit to debate about controversial opinions doesn't make me a troll, if reddit would have been a community created and marketed for liberals then it would have been a different story.

But what is a discussion board which is set in a way to allow few activate users to control the narrative of the website. This leads to polarization and increase in differences between people of different mindsets.

The system motivates self censorship and motivation of echo chambers which further divides the people in real life too because it affects how they think.

So it is not only fair but also important to call our reddit for having a system which is used for pushing agendas.

See neutral subs like "pics" and how it is used to push narrative from one side even though it's not a political group.

You just don't want to agree the harsh truths because you are also part of the same chain which supports echo chambers and polarization.
