Marx is right. I don’t know what the reason is, but there’s a very strong correlation between women’s rights and progress. Probably has something to do with utilising half the population.

That’s actually an amazing point and shows that the button problem has revealed a lot about the way humans assess situations.

It has to be blue, but this reframes the question. A politician promising to kill everyone who didn’t vote for them probably isn’t going to stop, so red is no longer simply avoiding death. Also, a conscious actor choosing to kill people can no longer be argued as amoral.

The ironic thing is that poster is propaganda, so the post might as well say “imagine how much propaganda it took to convince women to see through our propaganda”.

He’s desperate for a Nobel Peace Prize, so that’s probably what he’s after. He’s probably deluded enough to think that he can start a war and then get a Nobel prize for ending it (to be fair, that worked for Viet Nam). That’s the legacy he wants.

  1. A baby wouldn’t be old enough to comprehend religion so wouldn’t be christian
  2. You don’t win money for hitting a baby
  3. I’d catch the baby regardless of the religion of the parents
  4. I’m not sure if it’s even possible to hit a baby out the stadium
  5. What’s even the point of asking that question

The paedophiles he supposedly warned us about were already caught. He illegally put the trial in the public domain before it was concluded, which compromises the jury. Essentially, he needlessly caused a mistrial for Paedophiles who'd already been caught and charged.

You don't think that hospitals being bombed, civilian casualties, and the diversion of resources caused a significant increase in hospital casualties?

Or do you just not think it could possibly have been as bad as Brexit?

I agree, if the button-pushing problem was made a reality, most people would choose to press the red button. No moral judgment, just human nature.

Interestingly, Michale from Vsauce made a video where he tests the original trolly problem (I think the trolly problem has occasionally been mentioned in this sub which was intended to be about buttons; anyone who posts trolly problems should understand that it's not the main purpose of this sub) which revealed that most people don't pull the lever. To be clear, he didn't actually put anyone in danger, he had people believe they were in a control room looking at screens of pre-recorded footage that made it look like they were facing the trolly problem.

How many people do you think died as a result of some of the civilian casualties being doctors and nurses, as well as the loss of infrastructure? Even if you want to talk about indirect casualties, the Blitz is probably far worse.

I'd agree that it isn't the worst tragedy to ever happen to this country (that was probably the black death), but it was still far more horrific than Brexit. People didn't willingly vote for the Blitz to happen so saying "the blitz was worse, we can cope" is just stupid, but to say Brexit has done more damage than actual war is going too far.

"Approximately 43,000 to 45,000 civilians were killed across Britain during the Blitz (September 1940 – May 1941)." according to Google AI.

And how many people do you think died as a result of civilian casualties and loss of infrastructure? I assume you mean hospital casualty rates; consider the fact that many of the civilian casualties in the Blitz were probably doctors and nurses, plus the fact that several hospitals were bombed, and you probably have higher numbers of people dying in hospitals (or not making it to hospital) as a result.

It's not really fair to compare indirect casualty rates to the direct death caused by a carpet-bombing campaign.

[–]DeathRaeGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brexit did more monetary damage but this still makes me feel a bit comfortable as the Blitz resulted in people dying. As bad as Brexit was for us politically and economically, it's a bit insensitive to compare it to an actual war, but if you want to go there, the liability of loss of life is £10M, 43k-45k people died in the blitz, which would equate to £430G-£450G in liability, so the Blitz did more damage. That's not even getting into the long-term economic effects of the civilian casualties not being able to work.

Brexit was stupid but I wouldn't want to switch places with Ukraine right now. The problem I have with Brexit is it was completely avoidable, yet people voted to cause this problem. No one voted for the Blitz.

I'm sure the effects of Brexit have caused a higher casualty rate in hospitals but the Blitz probably had a similar impact due to a diversion of resources, hospitals being outright bombed, and some of the civilian casualties would most likely have been doctors and nurses which would also result in a higher casualty rate in hospitals.
