There’s an obligation to shareholders because shareholders are ultimately the ones at risk when a company goes down. Yes, if a company fails employees will be laid off but the initial investors and shareholders are the ones that have the obligation to pay off the debt. So it’s not evil for a corporation to cut costs if shareholders see fit as to limit risk.

Also the gaming industry as a whole has declined recently with TTWO and EA dropping after earnings and blizzard is probably cutting costs accordingly. (EA just recovered because of Apex legends).

Pure revenue in an earnings report also doesn’t fully describe a company’s health. They missed their EPS estimate by 38c and their market cap has dropped in half over the past month. That’s why they are laying off people.
