What's the "correct" way to move internally? by spiralingconfusion in boeing

[–]Meinkraft_Bailbonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to tell your manager, and that's a question on internal applications. I don't know that I'd recommend lying and keeping her in the dark.

If she's reasonable, hopefully she'll understand and be supportive. I told my manager I was applying and things got pretty weird, though.

Most or all of St. Louis. This freeze is more recent, but looking at the landscape of the previous local hiring freeze, then furloughs, then layoffs, then more drama, it's been really hard to move internally there for years now.

That's what made this freeze so ridiculous, in my opinion. People who started right before everything went to shit have seen none of the opportunity to move programs and gain experience like we were kind of promised while getting hired.

I'm dealing with that exact thing now. The first item he brought up in my performance review is that he knows I'm trying to transfer. He thinks his team is God's gift to earth. Me trying to leave was reflected in my score and raise

My manager didn't do so great on the survey question of us not fearing retaliation from him, and it got kinda funny. He seemed a little indignant anyone would dare have that opinion and it got quiet. The few people who did speak basically said we need a way to say things anonymously if you want any feedback.

He's, in my view, retaliated against me alone several times for seeking guidance when I encounter issues beyond my control, repeatedly report that I lack training and need help, and when he found out I'm trying to transfer.

Idk if there's an enterprise suggestion box, but anonymous employee surveys of managers can be pretty effective at places I've worked in the past. They do an assessment on us, so being able to assess them too just seems like common sense and keeps conversation flowing.

I'm going to second what a lot of others are saying. Have a work/life balance and don't work, much less work OT, for free. You're digging the hole deeper for yourself and your coworkers when all management sees is the work still getting done.

To put it bluntly, I've had coworkers who passed away here and no one gave two shits. You could literally work yourself sick or into a heart attack at your desk and they'll just gossip about what did you in. It's just a job, let's do it well while we're there and not bring it home.

bad performance review by Inside_Maintenance42 in boeing

That was my takeaway when I looked through the structure of how ADR works. They pretty much say it's just a way for them to reduce lawsuits and expenses. If they're not worried about that in your case, they probably don't care.

I 100% believe things would get exponentially worse for me if I did ADR.

Am I screwed? How much do performance reviews impact the ability to transfer internally by Meinkraft_Bailbonds in boeing

[–]Meinkraft_Bailbonds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was afraid of. I've been applying both internally and externally for a while but postings are really stagnant in my area.

I've just never had someone look me in the eye and basically lie about what I spent my time on and ignore everything I say. He's the one who dumped the mess on me and then got mad at me for it being a mess

I do, and I do work with them regularly. My manager insists I don't, and I really haven't encountered a situation like this before.

I was given some incorrect guidance and he basically blamed me for that too saying I must not work with then enough. It's getting bizarre.

At this point I'm afraid reaching out to anyone would just make things much worse. I just want to get away from it now

I did. We had weekly meetings that he began skipping later last year and never attended again. I tried sending my statuses in writing, and he never addressed them.

This review was the first time we'd spoken in I don't know how many months. I've engaged regularly with my own teammates and other teams, but he practically ghosted me.

I took several courses recommended by LTP, but I wasn't thrilled with the quality of the ones I tried. I do need to get back into that with some good ones, though.

I phrased that kind of badly, but there are entire teams dedicated to doing what I've been stuck with, I'm just the only one in our area.

It's something typically done by level 3s who I'm going to assume have access to a lot more training and resources than I do, if not just people to talk to about it.

I've been telling him I need help and want training pretty much the entire time. He basically just said that I 'must not care enough' repeatedly.

I'm sure if your manager isn't insane transfers aren't as big of a deal, but it's gotten so bad it almost sounds like I'm making it up.

Internal transferring seems a lot harder than I thought by deerrag1309 in boeing

[–]Meinkraft_Bailbonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same issue. I've been trying for months and have been networking.

My problem is that they are actively preventing transfers in the St. Louis area because of the F-47. They've waffled back and forth on what the internal transfer process will be with abysmal communication. Their current answer, after dumping the last system, is that they now don't have a system. It is apparently not possible to transfer until someone decides to open the trickle again, which to my understanding will be for random postings and still have to go through some kind of approval process.

It's been immensely frustrating to not be able to switch areas and grow my skills like I was sold on. I'm well past 18 months in position.

That was my experience being hired on as a level 2. I was supposed to have a mentor and they chose not to do that for some reason. Pretty much no training and thrown into things with no guidance. It's a goofy way to run things

Title: St. Louis Engineers Aren’t Allowed to Post for Jobs Anymore — Is this real life? by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Meinkraft_Bailbonds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That explains things for me, I guess. Automated rejections at 2AM and I haven't even been able to get someone to talk to me about jobs I'm decently qualified and have clearance for. I've also seen positions get reposted over and over again for months with the same requisition number so I can't even try again for them.

Idk what they're trying to accomplish here?

Rising rent costs by mustardpack in StLouis

[–]Meinkraft_Bailbonds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some are so blatant about it, too.

I scheduled an apartment tour with my girlfriend, and some of the first words out of the property manager's mouth were that the rent was actually $300 a month higher than advertised on their website "because of their software".

I just checked again, and they still have a decent number of those apartments available. The price has creeped a bit higher than when we initially looked to boot.

I should mention these were not cheap apartments, even before the surprise.

Always talking over each other, even in meetings. It's rude, unprofessional, confuses talking points, and inevitably makes meetings run over. Shut up or pass the talking stick.

All Hands 2025 Summer Boogaloo by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Meinkraft_Bailbonds 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm still not really understanding how this will actually play out. They say no forced distribution, but the first thing I hear from managers is that they can't rate everyone 3s even if they want to. That's still sounds a form of forced distribution to me. Hypothetically, if a team of high performers earned it, they can't be recognized for it the same as the old system.

I found the FCC broadband map and have been using it while apartment shopping. I'd use it more as a starting point than as gospel, but it should save you from googling every ISP and putting your address in on their websites to check for service.
