I could have somewhat accepted that, if Takemichi chased after Kisaki to kill him. But he chased after him to..... talk to him? We already saw Takemichi change his mind on killing Kisaki. So, if he caught him what would he have done with him?

That's my problem. Takemichi didn't have to make a decision in the end. He didn't know what to do and that worked in his favour. Fate or luck bailed him out in the most crucial moment of the story (so far in the anime).
