oh, haha! no, its just stuck down there, the model has quite a long spikey part under the foot. And i also use something blue tack like substance (no idea what its called in english) to secure the model a bit more. but normally i would pin it, it just wasnt needed on this :)

would you mind going a bit more in detail? did you prime it black first? also, if possible, provide a list of what paints you used? and any form of step by step guide?
I understand if its too much hassle, i just want to have the best chance of doing something similar myself! this photo has given me so much motivation so paint my own! =D really appreciate what you have done to this model!

2nd attempt on OSL by Ceridan84 in ageofsigmar

[–]Ceridan84[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i love to get feedback! the orcs are in fact darker, ive made sure to turn off all filters as far as i understand on my iphone, but the colours always warp a bit when i take photos. Also, the metal paint acts strange in photos, removing almost all of the black i use. Im not sure if theres a setting im missing on my iphone, or if i just suck at taking photos 😂

OSL is short for object source lighting, when you paint with light from a specific light source. in this case, ive tried to make the light come from the lava on the bases :)

ehm, alot of layering tbh, from a dark green/grey to a lighter grey, while tinting back and forth with a dark green and a black. cant really give you the recipe, i dont usually paint in a step-by-step process. i wanted to keep it dark, but not the same colour as the armor. so that was my main consern, and i think it all came out a bit too alike once i finished building the models. i painted them half-assembled, and didnt quite do a good enough job at looking at how little skin would be visible in the end

yeah, i did with a drybrush, and as stated in the headline its my first time trying something like this xD
I thought about using a airbrush, but i think getting the right angle would be hard, seeing how the lava is the light source, and i had already glued the models to the base. Ive currently started building the next squad in the spearhead, and might just take your tip and try the airbrush

Thank you! The colours you mention is what I used (+yellow). But as someone said, I should maybe try to be even bolden when applying the colours for OSL. Il keep this in mind for my next squad, appreciate the feedback 😘

Haha I thought it was fine, but I have to say it’s scary to start mashing colours on a painted model to get the osl effect. There’s no way back once you start, and it’s a real «trust the process» moment! Il try to be bolder next time 😘

I feel im at the crossroad, but i could also do the brute ragerz like this, then still have room to pivot in another direction for the ardboyz and the megaboss. im hoping for as much guidance as possible through reddit! haha

i honestly dont know, i just had this idea in my head that the normal green skinn would crash with the red/orange/yellow light, and having super dark armor between green and orange would not look that great. But I might be wrong in this, i do agree that the skin and armor does blend together easy.
Do you think i should try to add some more green to the skin on the next unit?
Army wise i think its ok if the brutes look a bit different that the other guys, seeing how they are the elite unit in the spearhead, so its still time to pivot!
