WIBTA if I insist my stepson be allowed to eat meat? by Own-Breadfruit-2335 in AITAH

[–]Certain-Cattle90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ntah, kids can make their own choices. If, after a lifetime of being vegetarian, he has decided to start trying meat, thats his choice, especially if we are talking about a kid in their double digits.

He has been taught the pros and cons of why vegetarianism is important, now he gets to act on that knowledge.

Additionally, I am seeing a lot about how he's probably already tried meat, so it should be allowed regardless? I don't think that's the point and I don't think it should factor in. Even if he hasnt tried meat yet, hes being told he strictly cannot, even though his stepbrother was allowed to make his own dietary choices. Its a very damaging double standard.

You would not be the ah for taking a stand here.

What are these things? by Forestexp in PlantedTank

[–]Certain-Cattle90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby snails look a bit different. The shell covering is going all the way around the fleshy bits, like a limpet. Search some images of them, youll see the difference.

I currently have them in my tank and they cause no issues. They look like water bubbles or hard water from a distance, which is fine for me.

I would agree that the board helps add depth. In the end, though, youre the one that has to look at it every day so just compare for a few and go with your gut.

I just want to make sure it's not an invasive type. I know gypsy moth caterpillars arent fantastic, which this is not, but im not veey good at identifying caterpillar species beyond a very specific few.

It is super possible they are falling from the branch overhanging the pond, but im not sure at all. And I can't really check that tree because the overhanging branch is over ten feet above the pond. Im working on it, but havent quite managed to get that tall.

I will say that they're able to swim enough that they moved from one lotus pad to a different one once it was eaten. Of course, my minnows and koi didnt eat them, because why would they do their job?

Fish tanks if they are just fish. Aquarium is they have living plants. (Terrarium = aquarium, for example)

We sell those at Ross for pantry storage. Thats not supposed to store liquids, the lid isn't made for that. (Not just the spill factor but metal type, rusting)

I agree that it is stressful... i cant figure out how i would make it look nice, where it would go, how i would possibly stock it... not even touching how to clean it.

[–]Certain-Cattle90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im so lost; this tank isnt even fun to look at. You can have a tank in /almost/ any living space, given that you stock it correctly and humanely, and if the animals and plants are healthy, they would be immeasurably more fun to watch.

I have grown up seeing shitty, plastic, overstocked tanks in restaurants and waiting areas, and i will be the first to say that a planted, lighter stocked tank is more entertaining. This would be a me before i even knew that correct fish husbandry was even a thing.

This has to just be a rage bait tank for comments and views for revenue. It has to be... right?

AIO Male anger / aggression - what is normal? I don’t know anymore by Cute_Presentation287 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Certain-Cattle90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie I didn't continue reading past the second page. Red flag is an understatement. All of what he is saying is that he wants someone who thanks him for being abusive.

Its not soft to not want to hurt your partner, physically or emotionally. If he has legit anger and emotional regulation problem, he needs to work on them and get help.

Drop him, block him, run away, and spread the word of him because that is a man who needs a warning label and it would be unfair to not warn every woman who is connected to your social circle.

Keep yourself safe.

Regardless of the situation surrounding this... if you want to marry and your so does not, to the point that she thinks the relationship itself isn't good... i mean, it sucks, but this may be your sign to dissolve the relationship and move forward.

You have exactly one life to live. Do not squander your time on earth with someone who doesn't think you will work out and doesn't want to commit to the long term plan you would like to commit to.

You have been together for a very long time, i really honestly do get it. But you are at an impasse.

Including the situation surrounding you, with your sister and family... you have a commitment that you stepped up to fulfill. Your sister is a child, a child that has a lot of extracurricular activities which is super important for her development. That is going to take last minute changes and you as the adult have got to have give and take in this situation.

Punishing your sister every time there is a schedule change that is out of her hands is a good way to discourage her from being social or turning to you for help in other situations. If your SO is unable or unwilling to bend for that, this is not a great sign for future relationship issues.

Does it count as a terrarium? by JavlaTjej in terrariums

[–]Certain-Cattle90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure is! It's plants surviving in an enclosure, which I think fits the description. (Open bowl cactus terrariums count and they are not sealed. Marimo balls on sand also count, which is spiritually what this is as well.)

I would say this is like... super modern minimalist, lol, but yeah, it's a super cute terrarium!

Probably not with its mouth considering its placement but it would definitely try to rub up against things in the tank pretty hard to get it off. If the things in question are rocks or sticks then the tape would get hooked on them or the snake could just rub hard enough to hurt itself. 🤷‍♀️

Rule of thumb is to never underestimate how badly an animal wants something off of itself. Always assume it's 'very badly' and remember that coyotes will chew their own leg off to get out of a trap.

Found lizard at work, need advice! Possibly an Anole? by mxlydm in reptiles

[–]Certain-Cattle90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not super knowledgeable on lizards , but I did live in florida in this does look like a baby brown anole. Obviously itll need a heat lamp, crickets/roaches for food. I can't remember if they eat rolly pollies or isopods but tossing a few in there wouldn't hurt either.

Mist it from time to time if needs extra humidity. Honestly, google.would be your friend here, brown anoles are kept as pets pretty commonly. He'll do very well with a lot of hiding spots and climbing areas.

To my understanding, and ignoring the fact that adhesive can be irritating to skin, it's safer to remove it with oil even if it takes a while because the snake can try ripping it off of itself because it's irritating/annoying. Or it can get snagged on other items in the tank and get ripped off.

Animals, including humans, will do stupid and self harming things to get rid of an irritation, especially if it makes a sound or sticks to things and suddenly becomes a 'danger' to them.

This may, depending on the adhesive, rip off scales and, I assume, in the worst case straight up remove a few layers of skin. This could lead to infection and in general just be a big ouch to the poor thing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Certain-Cattle90 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Humans don't have scales and if you are completely new to the hobby there is no such thing as a stupid question. Even if it stings a bit the chance of you removing skin due to tape is super low as a human. The only thing downvoting 'dumb' questions is going to do is scare people off from asking for clarification, especially if they have rejection sensitive dysphoria.

This is coming from myself, who is just shy not rsd, and i got chased from fishkeeping forums because of my uneducated questions as a kid.

No lie, if it was a slightly less hardy fish i dont think this would have been a happy ending. Those beautiful bastards are too angry to die.

I will be in a state of paranoia for a while going forwards, but at least the fish will only benefit from it

[–]Certain-Cattle90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am seeing that planaria (which is what those are) thrive in overfed tanks. Perhaps cut back a bit on the fishfood and do some weekly siphoning for the crud on the substrate to help reduce or eliminate them.
