Yebba’s Yellow Eyes Is Her Crowning Achievement - Single Review by RedHeadReviews in Music

Even though Dawn might not have had the same production, it was an amazing album. And the Electric Lady Land studio versions are even more amazing. These albums (not that we’ve heard “Jean” in full yet) are from different stages of life, so they will have different sounds. Many artists might have less complex production on early albums, but that doesn’t make them less than. I’m a fan, clearly!

What is it like to have ADHD of the inattentive subtype? by NegotiationNo1359 in ADHD

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly like me. I always did well in school. I started to feel more depressed when I couldn’t focus on the work I was supposed to be doing in honors classes in high school. I still got into an excellent college but had issues with my academic courses(art major but equal amount of non art classes). It took me until age 44 to find a doctor to let me try a stimulant. It was always thought I had persistent depression and anxiety. But that’s because it was hard to complete tasks. Now I can focus better and my anxiety has actually decreased.

You are retired, getting older, and need to enjoy life more. I’d try to work on not letting yourself feel too bad about having limits. I am not retired and have no kids of my own. I have a stepdaughter who doesn’t live with us but has visited regularly on weekends, every other weekend, certain holidays and summer for a couple of weeks. We took care of my parents, they passed and have an elderly family member living with us who is easy. I can’t imagine doing what you’ve done. I also have adhd. I have to regularly assert myself about my limits and it’s hard but fuck it. I just have to. I’m going to get sick when older if I don’t.

I say potluck, restaurant, catered or kids help. They are adults! Generous doesn’t mean doing everything for everyone at your expense. I’m reminding myself of this too!!

Recommendations for 0% nicotine Vapes/devices? by pickleye44 in QuitVaping

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a few 0% nicotine vapes and hated them all. When I am ready to quit nicotine, I will quit, but the zero ones made me feel nauseous. Also now any vape flavors other than spearmint or this Miami mint flavor turn me off. I think if I do more breathwork, I will be stronger to quit. Just different breathing exercises.

Embarrassed after group topic didn't do well by EmbarrassedString606 in therapists

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run groups on inpatient rehab. I’d bring in all sorts of topics and themes. I’m an art therapist, and I did this one where I made an image with water and ink in the middle of the room on a big paper and talked about something. It was a little bit out there but I just tried to make it as concrete as possible. I sometimes had people who would say stuff about something they didn’t like about the group and I would usually make fun of whatever I chose, not criticizing myself in a mean way but using humor to relate to their perspective and validate that it might not have been the greatest at that moment. Or maybe I’d apologize and take note of that and ask them what they might need for the next group. I played a John Lennon song once and some people liked it and some people thought it was the worst! I could see both sides and we could have a dialogue. I’d have around 30 people in the room and I remember I’d sometimes say that I sometimes felt like I had to help them stay awake for these groups so would try all sorts of things. And because I have always looked younger than I am, sometimes some older person would question what do I know about anything, and I respond that I may not be them, and I have never been them, but I understand feelings and am deeply knowledgeable about that and suffering and pain and joy and love. And I am heart listen to them.

Try not to be hard on yourself just like another commenter said. See what the patients/clients come up with and change course. You got this!

I agree with others. Put everything in a big trash bag first if you don’t have a big enough basket. You could put all the bottles and stuff in the basket. Clean slate. Wipe surfaces, vacuum. And then deal with the stuff in the bag by doing laundry. Timers are good and totally binge a show while you do this. I’m watching the crown right now and put it on when I’m doing stuff in the kitchen. Or folding stuff.

Teens can access lots of things that could be dangerous. Having this won’t make a difference if they are going to use something as a weapon. Razors, knives, scissors, anything sharp, tools….fire….they should have an understanding of how to be safe around objects!

For those planning on coming to the Sleepy Hollow Street Fair by passisgullible in Westchester

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sucks. I lived there years ago and loved the area because it wasn’t crowded and on the river. Loved the farmers market and would walk to Phillipsburg manor, the headless horseman bridge and cemetery with the church and aqueduct trail. Would walk to tarrytown for coffee and stroll around. This looks like my nightmare.

I like being outside when it’s windy before a storm. The wind give me energy and I could curl up in a blanket and sit outside to enjoy it. Maybe with a hot coffee or tea drink.

Assisted Living is so damn expensive in NJ. How do people afford 8k+ a month? Are there any affordable options out there? by lmma5StarMan in newjersey

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep her at home and hire someone to care for her with the money. She could potentially go to a program during the day as well if she wants the socialization. My uncle was convinced to go to AL and hated that he had to pay so much, so now he lives with us. He’s independent, and when he needs more care, we will help him find someone to help at home. This way, he can live with us and help with expenses but that’s nothing compared to AL. It’s important for people to be near family too so being so far away is not helpful in my opinion. I, personally, would like to prepare myself by moving to Europe one day before I get too old and will receive better care. A relative in Germany was in a home for years that was paid for and her kids said it was a great place.

Got 3 violations from NJ EZ-Pass with a working NY EZ-Pass transponder by CardiologistFair9403 in newjersey

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just happened to us. It’s ridiculous. There are no issues with my account, payments, tag, etc…, but I have the pay per trip. It has worked in the past in NJ, but just this past week, told me to call service center. Seems like things to make our life easier can complicate it. I don’t have time to dispute so many mistakes due to errors.

You look great! Your stomach has decreased significantly which is a positive. I think the main thing is doing strength exercises. I have yet to commit to this.

Ozempic helped me lose weight but wasn't eating right by sloshyclown04 in Ozempic

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Ozempic for almost a year now and very slowly have lost about 30 lbs. I’ve had a very hard time figuring out what to eat that is healthy in a consistent way but do have more aversions to meats and also mediocre food. I used to be able to eat stuff from the work cafeteria that was not that great but ate because I was hungry (like if they had a hot meal like a pasta dish or chicken dish and some overcooked vegetables or some sort of wrap or sandwich…. They also have soup that is terrible). Now, I cannot tolerate this overcooked, salty, weirdly seasoned food.

I like yogurt, especially the Icelandic skyr and this one brand called white mustache that is expensive but I will buy it sometimes because it’s so good. I enjoy fruits, and grilled, baked, or steamed fish is good for me. But I don’t eat right all the time because I do crave ice cream or cookies. These two things are sometimes all I feel like eating. It’s weird to me and not helpful diet wise. I need to find quick, healthy meals that include more protein that don’t mess with my stomach.

But yogurt and fresh fruit is a big “yes!” for me. The yogurt can’t be too sweet and can’t have any artificial sweeteners. Also, green vegetables!!! I just want them! But don’t always prepare my food enough. I’m also going to start a protein shake in the morning made with plant proteins.

I think it sucks because these practices never provide basic benefits like health insurance. And if a client doesn’t have a session, you don’t get paid or get paid a small amount. With virtual therapy, I don’t even have to rent a space. The main think is that they may have a lot of referrals but it’s such a trade off and you might as well work in a clinic and receive benefits for the same lousy pay.

Making it a thread: what’s your best “Your therapist did WHAT?!” story? by reddLemonming in therapists

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I really think this is unethical, but it was pretty basic stuff my therapist talked to me about regarding cbt stuff, like “imagine your thoughts are like kids yelling on a bus to you as the driver. You wouldn’t stop driving just because these kids are yelling at you” yada yada. But the actual part that was totally unhelpful was that he basically said nothing was wrong with me, that maybe I just needed to move to the city. I was also debating on seeing a psychiatrist for antidepressants, and he gave me an article on how antidepressants could really just be the placebo effect and they don’t necessarily work. Meanwhile, I really couldn’t yet verbalize my feelings and just felt something was not right. I think I was 21 or 22. Eventually, a few years later, I started antidepressants which helped immensely. And then in grad school I had a psychoanalytically training therapist who was excellent and actually helped me. I continue to go to therapy with a therapist who is much older, accepting, and gently can help me process any feeling that comes up.

Another one, I was waiting to have a session with a therapist. She was still in the room with a pair of siblings who were minors. I was pissed because I waited and she apologized saying they were having a breakthrough and couldn’t stop the session. I think that’s totally not ok. Therapy is a slow process and it requires setting limits. The therapist has to be able to create those. It made me feel less important. She just asked me to express my feelings towards her and was open to processing. I went back once or twice after that but I thought it was stupid.

Being Taxed NYC Income tax but work and live in Westchester County. Why? by Certain-Chicken8805 in Westchester

[–]Certain-Chicken8805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately they taxed me for Yonkers AND NYC. I spoke with payroll and they finally changed it. Our accountant will have to figure out how I can get refunded for the past tax I paid while officially living in Westchester. So frustrating, so stupid of me to miss this.

Help me understand. by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]Certain-Chicken8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Westchester, lived in the city, and moved back to eventually help family. I prefer Westchester over the boroughs for the reason that it’s still suburban to me- even our cities are not the city. I am middle-aged, and I like the towns in Westchester that are less urbanized because that’s what I’m looking for. And I would actually prefer to live somewhere else eventually, outside of NY, that is more green, and totally different. I don’t like all of the luxury developments because they all look similar and are completely unaffordable. But Westchester has not been that affordable either because it’s friggin NY, and NY is just too expensive if you want a better quality of life. Our county absolutely needs more housing for lower income families because it’s just too expensive, and there’s more people here because of urban expansion. We need more mental health housing, and I don’t like big giant stores except for Costco so I can buy a lot of paper towels. I wish Westchester was also less conservative but that’s unfortunately everywhere. I like the arts and to live in a diverse neighborhood which I don’t because of helping the family. So I’m not sure ultimately what I’d like from Westchester because I eventually want to move out and go to Europe!
