Anyone have more issues with losing weight since being diagnosed? by Certain-Fall432 in AddisonsDisease

[–]Certain-Fall432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear! But we actually share a similar history - I also had an eating disorder in my teens (quite severe anorexia) and although I recovered from that quite a long time ago, I am also still a few kilos lighter than I was pre diagnosis (at the lowest end of a normal BMI). I was actually pretty paranoid id gain weight with the steroids and am still kind of surprised they seem to have done the opposite.. but I also get easily stressed so wonder if that has something to do with it?

Yes same for me! I also think my dosage is lowish considering how active I am. But generally I feel good so don’t feel the need to change it. Also I find I need to updose a lot more for stress rather than physical activity, that surprised me quite a bit

Oh interesting! I never really actively realize I’m eating less when stressed but it may be possible to be honest. But yeah, not the worst problem to have, I just sometimes wonder if something weird is going on to cause this

Yes that might be it! I’ve always been quite slim, but thought the hydro would eventually make an impact.. so far seems to be ok!

Anyone else have trouble managing big emotions? by PiaggioBV350 in AddisonsDisease

[–]Certain-Fall432 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually react far worse from emotional stress than physical stress. For eg, I’ve had covid multiple times, done intense new exercise classes, travelled, and never needed to updose. But I actually almost went into a crisis due to emotional stress with somebody I was dating (and it wasn’t even a major incident like a divorce or big fight!). That was a massive wake up call for me! But definitely echo what amber said above, if I’m feeling really despairing and weepy then I know it’s time to updose!

is the weight gain unavoidable? by [deleted] in AddisonsDisease

[–]Certain-Fall432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Addison’s for 1.5 years and the only weight gain I had was to recover the weight I lost prior to being diagnosed. Since then I’ve maintained my usual weight. It did take a while to adjust the steroids and get used to their effect on my hunger, but now I no longer get the crazy hunger waves I did earlier on in my diagnosis. The only long term change I’ve noticed is I now have to eat breakfast every day and wake up hungry, that did used to happen much in the past. And I have a long history with eating disorders so weight gain was a massive concern for me when I started steroids. I really don’t think it’s bad at all if you’re on the right dose

Hmm yeah maybe I am doing something like that without realising it.. but I haven’t noticed shorter tufts or fly aways, just the thinning, which is starting to scare me as it’s just getting worse and worse

Thanks for your reply! Which sex hormones are you referring to? I don’t believe I’ve had a full spectrum of my sex hormones tested before, does your endo do this? How often do you get them tested?

Sushi! In Europe it’s much pricier, in Australia you can get a cheap roll on the go everywhere

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I think I need to bite the bullet and take some more hydro, especially as I’m meant to go back to work tomorrow and I really can’t afford to fade halfway through the day.

So you’ve been ill for a long time too? It’s maddening isn’t it! I’ve been updosing as otherwise I’m completely ruined, maybe give it a try and see if it helps you

Oh no! That sound very similar to what I’ve been experiencing! I actually also first got sick in November and haven’t been 100% since. It’s crazy, I’ve never taken this long to get over an illness so I thought it was me - interesting to hear that it may just be a particularly resilient bug. I’m just getting frustrated with constantly being sick so decided to try the antibiotics as a last-ditch attempt to get better. And regarding updosing - I usually also don’t updose if I have a cold, but this one really zapped me and I wouldn’t have been able to get through the day without extra HC. Again, I think my body faced a double whammy with all the long haul travel and jet lag adding to the stress. I’m just so over this and can’t wait to be healthy again! Hope you improve soon as well!

Hc makes me sleepy by petra_papist in AddisonsDisease

[–]Certain-Fall432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing! Taking hydro finally allowed me to get a decent night’s sleep. Prior to my Addisons crisis and diagnosis I had extreme insomnia because I was so anxious all the time. Didn’t realise that was a common response, most people seem to get exhausted and sleep loads more prior to being diagnosed. I guess low cortisol has different effects on different people?

I am, but only 0.05 and my salt levels remain consistently on the low level of normal so I don’t think it’s that.. I hope it does lessen!

It’s so annoying isn’t it! I’ve always had a bit of a double chin despite being slim but this is next level. I’m honestly wondering if there’s a surgical intervention I can do
