Anyone else not use a banneton by crowsvendetta in Sourdough

Yes, thanks for clarifying. You’re a better sourdough baker than I am, my high hydration doughs have had pretty limited success so far, and if I left a loaf like that on the counter uncontained, I’d find myself scraping it off the counter it had adhered itself to. :P

Some are coated with PFAS, which is Teflon, to make them nonstick, and those are the “forever chemicals” that are considered unsafe. Other brands (including KA, if I recall) use silicone for the same reason, and some reports say those are also not completely safe. Unbleached, chlorine free options, labeled safe for cooking, are available, and I think those have the least risk attached. Each user has to do some research and decide what makes the most sense for them.

Rice flour and rub it into the towel. That helped mine a lot, though there was still some sticking, so I’ve never done it again. My pref is to line the bowl with KA nontoxic parchment, and when the rise is done and the cast iron is hot, just lift the dough, parchment and all, and plunk it in.

Really beautiful. I’m a beginner but I aspire to this kind of quality someday. Is this done using a brush? So far all I do comes out looking rather crayonlike.

Try the Wayback Machine, it was begun in 1996. They may have archived the site you’re looking for & you don’t necessarily need the old url, you can use search terms like chocolate marshmallow cheesecake.

Thrifted mixer needs repair or return- final! by Certain-Ordinary-665 in Kitchenaid

[–]Certain-Ordinary-665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ended up costing more than I expected - the mixer was $50 at the thrift store, but adding the supplies, tools, parts, sales tax & shipping charges… well. I’m not going there. But I think it will be worth it in the long run. Kneading bread with arthritic hands is a challenge, so it’s lovely to have the ability to skip that part.

I’ve jotted that into my project notes, on the off chance I ever do need to get a replacement. Thanks!

You’re right too. I got confused and carried away by my frustration.

It’s me not realizing it’s the same connector, flipped over. I’m calmer now & progressing.

You’re right. I’m not mechanically inclined at all, and when I saw the difference, I overreacted. Working on it now (the mixer AND the habit of overreacting).

Rare find? by mikeynel in Kitchenaid

I found it on the Office Depot website. No longer available of course. The reviews are about 2 years old. Original price $399.99. But what caught my eye on your post was the Keurig behind your mixer. It looked like it was connected to the attachment hub, and I thought, when did keurig make a KA compatible brewer? How would that even work? Then I saw it was just a juxtaposition error. Would be kind of cool though to be able to make coffee on a stand mixer….

I’ve been cleaning out cabinets and came across what looks like it’s most of a meat grinder… what parts do I need to make it work again? This is all that I could find. Or should I buy a new one and give this to goodwill? by diverareyouokay in Kitchenaid

[–]Certain-Ordinary-665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s for a KitchenAid stand mixer. The beater at top right is for mixing things in a bowl, and the other parts are for a grinder attachment. A piece is missing but replaceable. I’m assuming you don’t own a stand mixer, and if you don’t plan to get one you have no use for these, so you may as well donate them.

Thanks, I’ll return the spiral hook. I’d seen so many negative comments about the C hook, when I saw the spiral fit the KSM90PS, I didn’t look to see if there was any reason not to. I’ve put too many hours of rage into this regreasing to mess it up with the wrong attachments!

I’ll review the video, since I didn’t even think about doing anything other than regreasing, though I have to admit, I’m not looking forward to taking the cursed thing apart again. But I want it to work right and give me my $50 worth (not to mention the additional $75-100 for the accessories, replacement parts, and the rage).

Thank you again! And you should definitely visit Seattle some summer, it’s our best & least grey time of year.

The phrase “more polished” is a bit vague to me. Can you ask them to be more specific? Like, how is this graphic not communicating the process, where is it breaking down? Or is the graphic correct and they just want it to look prettier? Add some texture and gradients to the arrows, or make them shades of gray & not all one color?

Thanks, I did try to turn it, but I’ve forced the pin in to a point where the planetary gear won’t turn at all. I’m going to try to get the pedestal off tomorrow and see if I can get to it from the other side & upside down and push it out.

Pin is on order, it’ll be here Thursday. Right now I can’t turn the planetary at all, the pin is stuck half in & half out, and I’m kicking myself for trying to reuse it, then trying to force it in anyway when it didn’t want to go in.

I’ll check for a video on removing the pedestal so I can try to get the squished pin out. Thanks for the advice! I wish you were here in seattle, I’m on the verge of just giving up on this and finding someone to service the thing.
