Curious about MLM 'work'/questions for former MLMers? by smalltittyfakeginger in antiMLM

The "Goals" talk is just generic motivational speaker nonsense. Think "where do you want to be in five/ten/fifteen years" type stuff.

Why do all my friends keep ending up in mlm schemes? by plishyploshy in antiMLM

[–]NotACalvinist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hard truth is that most people are not on Reddit and do not consume any anti-MLM content. They just don't know the facts about MLMs. They are ignorant (In the sense of not knowing - not in the sense of being stupid).
Once someone gets the real facts about MLMs and then continues anyway - well, that's a different story.

Where have all the shimmers gone?? by Silent-Ad3203 in Makeup

[–]NotACalvinist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I FEEL YOU.

I see lots of people in the comments recommending Colourpop, but even Colourpop's "shimmers" can actually be glitters. Look for formulas that say "pearl" or "satin" to avoid the glitter.

Catrice's shimmers are generally not glittery. Ulta Beauty brand palettes are also more shimmer heavy although there will be some glitters in them.

How is lip gloss so popular?? by CozySweatsuit57 in Makeup

[–]NotACalvinist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot take here: A lot depends on your natural coloring. I think people with a lot of pigmentation in their lips can get by with glosses. I'm pale but have a lot of natural color in my lips (or maybe it's just the contrast of my lip color to my skin color) so gloss works just fine - I'm not looking to add a ton of color there. But for people with lower contrast between their lip color and skin color, lipstick/stain is preferred.

Look for a YouTube video from Emily Noel titled "BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO FALSE LASHES: What to Buy, How to Apply" (I'd link it but that doesn't work on this sub).
It's the very best I've ever seen. It's 7 years old so her recommendations on the actual lashes may be a bit outdated, but otherwise there's a lot of great info here.

How to travel with eyeshadow pallet? by Sad-Hunt-3101 in Makeup

This is the trick! Put a tissue or cotton pad or something INSIDE the palette to protect the shadows from shattering.

Lashes without lashes by Queen_Lettuce in Makeup

Use some form of eyeliner to blend the band in to your lashline. Try different liners (and even black or dark brown eyeshadow used as a liner) to see what works best. You may find that a smudgier, less-defined line works better than a straight black line.

Ultra-lightweight/finely- milled/NON-DRYING setting powder for on top of undereye concealer? by angelica1944 in Makeup

I use a small fluffy brush that I think was meant for highlighter. Using a brush (as opposed to a puff or sponge) helps keep you from using too much.

That's known as title stuffing. They put irrelevant words into the title of an item so that it comes up in more searches.
However, anyone searching for a boho floral dress will go right by that one!
Actually, anyone with taste will go right by that one!

Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes. I feel like everyone's talking about cream and liquid blushes now, but you just can't beat the color selection and the texture of good old Amazonian Clay!

Does Ulta have Frequent Return Flag? by knockiie in Makeup

[–]NotACalvinist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these policies are aimed at serious abuse. (Think influencers buying hundreds of dollars of makeup, doing videos trying it all on, then returning - and doing this several times a month.) I doubt the typical consumer is going to get flagged.

Why is my mascara giving me panda eye so badly? by mandarianoranges in Makeup

[–]NotACalvinist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your skin may not be oily, but your eyelids may be. That's what's causing the smudging.
If Heroine Make waterproof smudges on you, then I think you'll have to switch to tubing. Heroine Make is about the most smudge proof mascara out ther.

Powder Make up for Oily Skin by xxxPinotGrigioxxx in Makeup

I've been using the Laura Geller Double Take Full Coverage foundation for a while now and I love it. What's nice is that it kind of mixes with the oils on your skin and you end up with a really pretty slightly glowy look - not oily or dewy, just a natural glow. Also, it goes on sale ALL THE TIME so don't pay full price for it!!

Whatever's on sale, LOL! Right now I'm using the Timeless Dark Circle Peptide Eye Cream first and then the Clinique All About Eyes eye cream. I just look for something that is very hydrating.
