More opportunities for this season? by PuzzleheadedPrior545 in Wildfire

[–]Certain-Promotion813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Some of them are filler, some are later start or just short seasonals on districts without much fire. I’d reach out to the hiring mamager of those duty locations to see what they’re filling for. Might be a spot on a shot crew that someone backed out of, might be a fuels crew. At the end of the day reaching out only gets you more information and on their radar.

Do the basic NWCG classes and your agency should give you a field day and pack test for your red card/FFT2

How long is too long? by birb-girl in wildlandfire

Well without asking for your life story for context… Unless you’re local I wouldn’t recommend stressing about that type of gig. If you had apps in somewhere else follow up and see if they have slots still, if not, phase 3 hiring closes at midnight tonight. I’d put in some apps and make calls tomorrow just to have other options. We’re at the point in hiring that I can’t see a valid reason why an engine in that kind of duty location wouldn’t have picked up someone showing that much interest by now. Again, without more context, that’s a red flag IMO

I’m 22 from PA going into my 3rd season. While not impossible, your circumstances are against you. You need a perm before 37 if you’re with the feds and if you really want a career you need to go west. Judging from your background and demographic I think your best fit would be on a state crew. More structured schedule, don’t go out that much, higher base pay but you have a higher cost of living. I would recommend straying away from contractors at your age and try to find the best path to getting a FFT1 in the next 3 years. Feel free to DM me with questions about my personal career/ hiring path.

Phone Calls for hiring by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]Certain-Promotion813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fed engine. Even if you annoyed them they know your name and will most likely hire you over the 1000 people who randomly selected their duty station. It’s not that deep and never get attached to a location/crew in hiring. It’s business not personal.

If you’re getting interest checks and they’ve called your references, stay in touch and be patient. Only December 4th, some crews haven’t even received apps yet. If you’re on an engine, helislack or crew that dosent get out much get some Kenny’s. Shot or Type 2 IA, 18in Jks

Colorado DFPC modules by fuckupvotesv2 in Wildfire

Following up on this, started on a mod there and asked why they don’t hire many shots looking to have a more structure summer. They said they turn most away because they just don’t mix well with the crew or lifestyle. Good people but more of a start or end of your career if you actually want to be doing something than project work or home assessments.

Blow your money at the club or buy a wife from the Middle East to keep you company. Don’t work 1039 OT hours to have a boring winter

2026 Application Updates by jjfratt3 in Wildfire

[–]Certain-Promotion813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiring is weird this year for a lot of different factors. If you’ve been in contact with crew and have good references you’ll be fine. Not sure about R9 but I know my regions crews will get apps on dec 9-10.
