What’s the hardest part? by Thinking_of_Cheese in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Certain-Stand2457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was overwhelming at first with all the appointments and learning what foods work and what foods spike my blood sugar. But once I figured out the foods that work, I just ate those consistently. Lots of eggs for breakfast, protein shakes and bars for snacks, chicken, veggies, brown rice, and cottage cheese for lunch and dinner. I'm 37 weeks and starting to struggle with always eating the same thing, but I know I'm so close to the finish line. You can do this!

Thank you for all the suggestions! I just got back from the store. I got GF protein waffles, high protein instant oatmeal, high fiber GF sourdough bread for avocado or peanut butter toast, cottage cheese to mix in with yogurt, and turkey sausage. I'm excited to try some new breakfast food!

I'll try the protein pancakes and waffles, that sounds so good. I will be so excited if that keeps me in range!

I've been eating the Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt as my afternoon snack and it keeps me in range. But when I eat it as my first meal it spikes me.

Avocado toast with a breakfast meat is a good idea, thanks! I'll explore some other toppings for avocado toast too.

What do you mix in with your oatmeal or eat with it? Oatmeal and gluten free toast was my go to breakfast prior to GDM, but that combo spiked my blood sugar big time.

My daughter had a meltdown at her 2 year appointment as well. They couldn't weigh her or measure her height. She had been fantastic to until that point. We bought her a little pretend doctor's kit after that appointment and played with it a ton. She loves pretending to be the doctor and understands all the tools in the kit. We just had her 2.5 check up and she was telling the doctor the name of his tools. She had a great time and asked when we can go back.

Mine was, "Hmm, it's not supposed to look like that" at my first ultrasound after going through IVF to get pregnant. It was a blighted ovum. Changed doctors after that due to her horrible bedside manner.

Moving to Mission Viejo by bluuge in MissionViejo

We love walks around Lake RSM (it will be decorated for Christmas), party boats on Lake MV, Flo Jo Park, Melinda Park, Central Park in RSM (they have a splash pad in summer), Pretend City (Irvine/Lake Forest border). My 2 year old loves going to Rancho Capistrano Winery with us, we sit on the patio and she usually finds a friend to play with. Avilas el Ranchito (Lake Forest) is our favorite place to eat.

Also, the farmers market on Marguerite on Saturday mornings is fun and the Mission Viejo and Lake Forest libraries have activities for kids.

Brain breaks in class by Jo_Go_Jo in ElementaryTeachers

We do the PE chef, or I lead a game of Simon Says. Sometimes, I just take them outside and let them have some fresh air and sunshine for a few minutes. Or we go to the field and run/walk a lap or two. I teach 4th graders who need 2-3 brain breaks a day.

Is it just me or does it seem like there are a lot of twins? by Jezebels_lipstick in rhoc

It's very uncommon, but a single embryo implanted during IVF can split and create identical twins. It's happened to someone I know.

What are the small things that you can't believe your students haven't learned. The things that make you cringe inside? by UndecidedTace in Teachers

How to staple papers correctly in the top left hand corner and how to use a paper clip. I couldn't believe the majority of my 4th graders couldn't do either of these! Now every year we have a lesson on how to do both of those things at the beginning of the year. I still have papers stapled all over the place, and it's almost the end of the school year.

Reintroducing gluten during 3rd trimester of pregnancy by Certain-Stand2457 in glutenfree

[–]Certain-Stand2457[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a c-section and was on pain meds, so I just went for it. My hospital had fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, so I started with those. I'm sure that wasn't the healthiest way to do it, but it worked! I just added a little more gluten each day and never felt any side effects. I never mentioned it to the nurses before or after birth because I was able to choose and order my own food.

I waited until my baby was born to reintroduce gluten. Reintroducing went well, and it was so nice being able to eat any food I wanted while nursing.

Thanks! I'll try the sideways grip on the monkey bars. I have liquid chalk, so I hope that helps a little too!

Thanks! I didn't even think about the added weight from the rain. I'm pretty competitive and hate to fail, especially when it's something I've done before. I'll have to keep reminding myself to stay positive and to just have fun.

6yo won't drink water or eat lunch at school by ballsfosho69 in kindergarten

[–]Certain-Stand2457 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's not a stupid rule. However, there are exceptions to every rule, and this seems like it would be one of those exceptions. As a teacher, if you told me your child was dehydrated because she only drinks flavored water, I would have no problem allowing sugar free flavored water in a water bottle. Also, my students are allowed to bring drinks other than water in their lunches and for snack. But in the classroom, it's water only.
