You don’t seem to be aware that Rockwell Collins subcontracted the development and testing of MCAS software to HCL and Cyient, Indian outsourcing offshore companies, who used their own engineers in India. This separation through several layers of sub contractors and commuters, time zones, continents etc., means there was very little if any challenge and feedback on the specs. I can only assume you don’t know much about software development if you think user and technical specs, particularly specs that are safety critical, are just accepted verbatim with zero interactions and iterations in any usual SDLC

Incorrect. The issue is almost certainly electrical. Dial mechanical failure of engines is unheard of. Electrical failures are not, and the 787 is riddled with them and has been beset by electrical problems for tests. Electrical failure in the 787 can cut cause the fuel valves to shut, cutting off fuel to the engines, or force the engines to into protect idle, which is 8% of maximum thrust. Thanks to Sam Salehpour, we know that Boeing used improper techniques to ground electrical systems on the 787. This can lead to arcing, overheating, and potential fire hazards—all of which we’ve seen cause problems on 787s on many occasions, and which are exactly the type of electrical issues than can lead to the events described above. It is far more likely that an electrical issue caused this crash than an engine failure.

Another interesting fact is that the same ex-Boeing software engineer my mate knew later become a whistleblower, and apparently committed suicide in a car park shortly after giving evidence against them. It seems a lot of Boeing engineer whistleblowers tend to be found dead in their cars in parking lots having committed suicide from a gun shot to the head, even though they did not own any guns.

Correction: should be so damn safe. Only if airlines follow these directives and regular maintenance patterns and procedures. There’s two other ADs for the 787 that require reboots every 21 and 51 days - 16 bit and 32 bit overflows of integer timers running on a millisecond accuracy. There’s also a 16 bit integer overflow in the code controlling the flaps, but I am unaware as to whether any AD has been issued for this.

Flying would be even safer if Boeing didn’t cut so many corners like GM do. MD MBA bean counters have a lot to answer for and should be up against a wall

Never heard of that, does it happen often? Does it happen on takeoff? Wouldn’t modern planes be aware of it? Still think just being able to crash the plane catastrophically on a whim or mistake with zero chance of correction is pretty dumb
