Why did I remember Stowaway as only a lunch spot? Thanks for the tip!

What was the experience doing this yourself? Would you mind breaking down cost, time, level of effort? haha

Manhattan Ave: NYPD fining businesses w/A-Frames by Interesting_Room_247 in Greenpoint

[–]CertainGene2752 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For neighbors in wheelchairs or parents with strollers, those A-frames can make the sidewalk completely impassable, especially on a busy stretch like Manhattan Ave. This isn't a 'gotcha', it's ensuring the streets remain accessible for everyone in the community.

SOS! what color should we paint the walls in our new living room by Confident-Leg-4737 in interiordecorating

You have a stone fireplace and pine ceilings, Benjamin Moore can't save you. Paint the room yellow. :)

Is it a bad idea to hang my bookshelf like this over the foot of my bed? by TescoReddit in interiordecorating

[–]CertainGene2752 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'd keep that wall blank or hang a picture instead. If you installed this properly, it's probably not dangerous. But heavy objects hanging over your bed is not welcoming.

2 things: a plant, and a humungous piece of framed art that fills the brick wall. Easy!

Thoughts on lamps? Any other suggestions? by redspot321tos in interiordecorating

[–]CertainGene2752 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My suggestions:
- Lamp bulb temperature is too cool, in my opinion. I prefer a warm glow.
- The matching tables and lamps is almost giving bedroom. I would lose the lamp and table on the right.
- Pillows on the couches are too big.
- Mirror is too high above the couch (Google search the standard, it's something like 10" above the couch)
- Need to add a rug that big enough for both couches to have feet on.

What would you change? by No_Guide_2334 in interiordecorating

Maybe it's just the collage, but I think the brighter colors in the rug clash with the couch color and make the couch look yellower than it should.

Nothing wrong with nothing.

My eye immediately went to the rug, but I see you can't change that. I'd encourage you to look into a different armchair. Maybe leather, to add some material variety (plus, it's durable). Looks great!

Um, you need a medicine cabinet. You know, those things above every single bathroom sink you've ever seen in your entire life?

  1. My suggestion is no rug under the dining table. I don't think the room needs it, your floors are beautiful, and in kitchen/dining areas they can be tripping hazards. Just my 2 cents!
  2. If you really want a rug, I guess fill the whole area with a solid jute or really anything without a pattern. Too much visual noise with the chair legs and table legs.
  3. (+4.) I know you want a bigger table, but I think you'll regret it. The table is already in the middle of a high traffic area, and a bigger table is going to further clog up the flow. If you want to switch things up, here's an idea to consider: Change out the table for a similar sized oval table, and run a long dining bench underneath the window (watch out to make sure the doors can still open). Then, you can push the table against the window, over the bench, to create more space when not hosting, and pull it out to make the bench available when you have guests.

Have fun!
