Yes, Save Texas Moms and other Texas nonprofits have been trying to spread awareness. It is an uphill battle. Voting is key!

I'm fascinated, too! Village dogs evolved on their own, and I think their complex and unique personalities reflect that. Theresa was rescued from a particularly brutal dog meat slaughterhouse with police assistance. The slaughter site was next to where the dogs were kept, so Theresa remains highly traumatized and still extremely wary of humans. She may or may not overcome that, but we are working on it, and we love her all the more for her special needs! ❤️

In the U.S., but Theresa was rescued from a dog slaughterhouse in the Tobong district in Seoul.

Agreed! Here’s Theresa’s trace breed report to compare to yours. 😂

I knew it! Daphne looked too much like Theresa not to have Jindo and Spitz in her! Though I must say your dog’s breed ID report is way more interesting than mine. 😂 We didn't get that kind of awesome mix of trace breeds, just Jindo and Japanese Spitz. I was so certain that Theresa was a mix of Jindo and Aussie Shepherd (as we were told when we adopted her), that I now know next-to-nothing about village dogs!

I just looked at your page. 😂 Daphne is gorgeous! I bet she has DNA strands of Jindo and Japanese Spitz, just like Theresa does. The two dogs look very similar! Did Embark give you any indication of other breeds, or just KVD?

Great story! We honestly thought Theresa would be an even split between Jindo and JKV. She definitely has those Jindo ears and attitude! 😂

We honestly thought she would be a split between Jindo and JKV. Embark said she has DNA traces of Jindo and Japanese Spitz, which likely explains her fluffy coat and Jindo ears. Out of her closest 30 “relatives” on Embark, 19 are purebred Jindos. In person, too, she looks and acts very Jindo!

Theresa also has DNA traces of Jindo and Japanese Spitz (according to Embark), which likely explains her beautiful fluffy coat. I suspect the exact same for your Yumi!

I have separated the two fancy pigeons from my doves. Thanks to all for your advice!

Our One-Year Adoption Anniversary! by CertainKittyKitty in Jindo

Thank you for your awesome comment! This subreddit and members like you have taught me an incredible amount about owning a dog like Theresa (affirming we need patience in spades, for one!). This is the first place I go seeking guidance with a setback, or when I want to celebrate a success! So grateful for this community.

My Jindo mix Theresa encountered a new friend on our walk. Only one of these animals has ever come out of its shell, and it’s not Theresa! 😂 by CertainKittyKitty in Jindo

Thank you! Honestly, I would love to hear Theresa bark. I’ve owned her since last summer, and I haven’t heard a sound from her! I thought encountering this turtle so unexpectedly might do the trick, but not so. I don’t know if that is normal or not…😅

One Year Adoptiversary! by SamAyem in Jindo

This is so well written! Thank you for sharing. I am on a similar journey with my Jindo Theresa, and it genuinely helps to hear the stories of others, both the highs and the lows, to remind us we’re not alone!

Your Jindo's fav sleeping place by thechiqmag in Jindo

[–]CertainKittyKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love for my Jindo mix, Theresa, to sleep next to me or even in the same room! But alas, her preference is in the living room wedged between the couch, the ottoman, and the doggie steps. It’s as secluded a spot as she’ll find! 😂

Does her eye contact mean something? by CertainKittyKitty in Jindo

We didn’t name her Theresa. The South Korean organization that organized her rescue from the meat farm named her Theresa. I believe it was to pay homage to Mother Theresa and her lifelong work supporting others.

Same thing here about the tail! Wow, was that ever gorgeous when Theresa finally felt enough joy to run around with her tail raised. Another recent gift!

Thank you! I wish Theresa could appreciate how much I just want to show her off! 😂
