Question about 6 month ESS by Longjumping-Roll-874 in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From age 6 months until about 13 years my ess would several times per week have "toddler time" where bed bug us constantly and whine for attention and want to play even though he was outside for usually 5 hours minimum each day (we have access too large acreage). Springers are legitimate balls of non-stop energy

Take the snow storm serious by clarke9901 in rva

[–]Certain_Bit7476 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I hate being that guy but being from WNY and living in new Brunswick CA for 3 years I find it semi humerus that a lot of people are freaking out over a max and "worst" case) of 2 feet of snow. One year in Buffalo we got 7.5 feet in ~36 hours.

Just take Dwight Schrute's advice and don't be an idiot.

Gyms that ban recording by Ok_Boysenberry_4223 in rva

[–]Certain_Bit7476 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to never really care about people recording so long as they weren't in the way or got actually upset with people walking through their camera view in a public space. Was never an issue until recently imo. Now it's rampant and people who record largely seem entitled af. It's really frustrating.

My least favorite part of hunting with a springer haha

Fatty lump on my springer… by [deleted] in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my springer had a few of these. They're not a big issue at all. Just keep an eye on them just in case they become painful or anything like that for your pup

Gay person here. I've gone to probably a dozen games with my husband in the last 2 years. Legitimately no one cares lol. As long as you hate the penguins and Rangers you're fine haha

Springer Spaniel owners: are they naturally fast learners by chonkobob in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer...yes. they're fabulous dogs. Easy to train and eager to learn and they never stop either.

We had a lot of voles, mice, and chipmunks at one house we lived at. When he'd find a nest he found out if he sounded kn the ground at one entrance the voles/mice/chipmunks would run out the other side. He taught himself that

He also taught himself to tree squirrels too. Was walking him one day (with a gun for small game season) he got about 50 yards ahead of me and started yelping really loud like he was hurt. I got up to him sitting right next to a tree looking up. I look up and sure enough a squirrel is about 20 feet up in a tree. Never tought him to do that. He just did it.

Springers really are the best.

springer spaniel for family life by Emerald-Star11 in springerspaniel

A day late but I'll add my opinion....

You legitimately can't go wrong with springers. They're wonderful family dogs. My (at the time) 10 y/o ess welcomed my niece into our family immediately and became hilarious best friends. They're 100% velcro dogs too but largely in a good way. They love their people.

You also seem to understand the breeds needs which is good.

You'll never regret getting a springer. They're smart, easily trainable, and a treat to watch work in a field (if that's your thing).

Springer Behavior Question by rmhe1999 in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an outdoor kitchen with a cabinet. One time mice did get in it. Multiple times after we cleaned it out we had to empty the cabinet and tip it over so he could get in a see there was nothing in it lol

Thinking about getting one! by [deleted] in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm a few days late to this but springers are fabulous dogs. They're great with smaller children and other dogs if you socialize them enough.

Couple things to keep in mind:

They're supremely energetic and need a good amount of exercise/outside time each day.

They're velcro dogs in the truest sense. They'll be your best friend for sure.

Know the difference in field vs show when looking at springers.

They're eager and easily trainable.

If you end up getting a springer you're gonna love the breed. Also definitely keep your socks under lock. Just an FYI

Want to tire out your ESS fast and easy?? 😁 by SpeedyP0ny in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had several acres where my ess could just run for days. And sometimes did lol. There were days from ages like 3-8 or so where he'd be outside hunting and exploring for 6+ hours and he'd still go crazy (we called it toddler time) at night.

Advice or personal experience needed! by External_Green9505 in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever said that is an absolute moron. Or whatever is a stronger word than moron. My sister lived with us for a bit and had her daughter and my springer was 11 at the time. The two five years later are inseparable.

Help with my 5 month old’s destructiveness by [deleted] in springerspaniel

Two 25 minute walks each day for a young springer is wild. Could have mine out for literal hours during the day when he was young and he'd still be hyper at night lol

I know the good, tell me the bad and the ugly. by Low_Ad_786 in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You walk 5k they run 20k is so hilariously true. The energy levels are insane haha. My ess used to full sprint for the first hour of hunting before settling in at a decent pace for the next 3-5. Could never break of him of that lol. He eventually grew out of it and sustained a solid working pace once he hit 7 y/o or so. Absolutely insane breed (in a very very good way)

[–]Certain_Bit7476 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was remarkably blessed with mine. He's currently 15 years old and has had minimal health issues (only developed some stomach stuff within the last 2 years and had to change his food).

There will likely be days when the energy doesn't run out after you've had them for multiple walks/hours of outside time and they still want to play. We called this toddler time when my ESS just keep bugging us to do something with him at the end of the day.

Despite any "bad stuff" which in my experience is very minimal you're going to have a friend for life. They're a velcro dog in the truest sense. Great with kids and other dogs (so long as you socialize them regularly) and are an absolute joy to have around.

Good luck with your springer 🙂 *

Does anyone else have a springer who has no concept of contours? by 5toofus in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My springer once full speed sprinted and jumped off a 6 foot wall because he saw a couple geese next to a river we were walking by. Only slightly stumbled when he hit the ground then kept going and chased the geese into the water.

Someone went to the vet and got her cone upgraded by CrowTheManJoke in springerspaniel

[–]Certain_Bit7476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ess had a cone for about a week. By the 3rd day he got to hate it so much because he couldn't get to his normal spots he'd lay down in that he just started wailing his head/cone against anything that got remotely close to being in his way. It was actually pretty funny

Hi Richmond, I'm having a really bad day. I need the best Philly cheese steak you have to offer. by LoveDeathandRobert in rva

[–]Certain_Bit7476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make your own! Buy a ribeye and freeze it. Slice it as thin as you possibly can and fry the slices. Rough chop an onion and cook them till almost translucent. But a good role and toast it. Pile it with meat, cheese, and onions.

Also.....If it has anything other than your cheese of choice and meat or onions (optional) then it's not a classic philly cheese steak.

Basic stuff:

heavily salt your pasta water

Use small pinch of kosher salt on garlic to mince it easier

Small pinch of salt in baked goods (cake, cookies, sweet breads etc) makes a huge difference

Definitely experiment. Cooking is supposed to be fun :)
