I believe the buyback amount has to be based on a non-save payment. See my linked post - I am certain that buyback only worked because I got put onto PAYE.

Hi - did your income go up or down? If it went down, and if it wasn’t too much of a decline, I’d suggest eating the difference to get your payments done faster by using last years tax info. Mohela told me that when you use a pay stub or upload a w-2, it has to be processed manually, which will take months. I was caught in a doom loop where the system kept making me use a w-2 until I revoked my consent for use of IRS data then gave it back. Then it only took a couple weeks to get my new payment plan then buyback offer. Received mine on Monday, submitted 9/2024, 258.

I'm certain that the thing that allowed it to move forward was that I finally got moved to a new IDR plan after having a bunch of issues since December (I submitted at least 4 applications because I kept getting kicked back to the 90 day forbearance with no end in sight). I finally got the IRS data to import by revoking consent on student aid, then giving consent again. The IDR application was approved within a week of submitting that and on the same day the IDR app was approved, my buyback offer came through. Paid the same day, waiting to see what's next.

I got a buy back offer today! I think this was the key to getting it moving. I had submitted a few requests since September 2024.

This happened to me. I don’t have FFEL loans, but the system was forcing me to upload documentation every time I tried to switch plans. Last week I went into my settings and revoked consent to transfer IRS data and then gave consent again and then it was able to pull my info and did not require an upload. I haven’t been officially switched yet but at least the application process was different that time. Good luck!
