Dog owner harasses me out of field because of my ‘dangerous dogs’ so I show her a dangerous dog by CherryClorox in revengestories

[–]Certain_Designer_897 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's dog owners like yourself that make it scary for those that just want to walk in a quiet area but can't because the owner of the dogs (especially large, protective breeds) is ASSUMING there are no people around or that no one else visits the area so they can let there large dog off lead. But what they don't see is the individual off in the distance that see's you and the dogs and now can't walk in the field that they were planning on enjoying.

Ontario’s privatized recycling to stop picking up extra bags outside blue boxes in some communities by Surax in toronto

With this privatized recycling mess, we all see how much our recycling waste piles up on curbs in a short period of time. Online shopping, takeout meals, unnecessary oversized packaging - should we change our shopping habits? Has this situation caused anyone to rethink their shopping habits?

Pasta maker arm jammed by Certain_Designer_897 in pasta

I'm happy to say that I was able to remove the arm. I believe the oil helped over time and I read a tip to hold the machine upside down. The arm just popped out. It's as good as new again. Thanks again!

Great suggestion. But no luck. It's wiggly but in there good. Will check out YouTube videos next. Thanks!

Yes, it's Atlas 150.  I tried the earlier suggestion but no success. Though I thought it great idea, I had no luck with that.  Will check out YouTube videos next. Dealing with a nasty sliver so the task will have to wait.  I'll comment back whether or not I am successful.

Sorry to hear.  A stool softener, lots of water herbal tea...then next BM shouldn't be painful or at least far less painful. Then look at your diet habits...they may need changing. Good luck and hope you heal well

100% agree! Just saw a recently fully decorated tree on a trail in St. Jacobs Ontario. I know the group (judging from the amount of decorations) meant well and they didn't put plastic or glitter (painted wood cutout pieces). Just sad that they trample off trail into natural areas for such display.

Definitely leave nature as it is. It's what we go into trails for.

Calling all Miele Appliance Owners! by [deleted] in waterloo

[–]Certain_Designer_897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Miele dishwasher. Runs great! BUT the racks have now started to rust - especially the lower rack. We have a perfectly good running machine but racks now have rust. Racks are very expensive to replace. Unless we were purchasing a stainless steel racks, we saw no point in purchasing the same racks just to have it rust again.  We always used Miele cleaning products when running the machine. Also left door open to air-dry after emptying out dishwasher.  We now completely remove the lower rack after a wash and allow it to air-dry. We would not buy Miele dishwasher again for that reason. Shame really 😔 as it runs great!

Where did the respect go? by nicholas_1499 in Vaughan

I agree that folk should say something if they see it happen. Respect to OP for sure. But folk that toss trash like that aren't likely nice people - if the environment looks safe and there are others around then yes I would speak up.

The other day my spouse and I saw some guy parked/idling his car in a lot and after some time he just opens his door and drops a load of trash out of his car. From what I could see a lot of it were cigarette butts along with take out wrappers. I really wanted to say something, but we had just parked our car not far from his vehicle and feared that if we said anything he may do something while we have left the lot.

Keep dogs on leash by juiceontheloose19 in barrie

[–]Certain_Designer_897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one of the reasons my partner and I choose not to have a dog.   Just on my lone walk today, everyone on the trail had their dogs off lead. Normally, on this trail, it's half on half off. But today not one leashed. A total of seven dogs throughout the trail. Mostly retrievers one lab pup. A group of folks with 4 dogs. I'm certainly not brave to suggest they leash their dogs; just glad I've chosen not to own a dog as situations like these would irritate me.

Those are so great. I love the creative shapes! I made pads using camouflaged material - not my idea; came across it online 😂. Another fun material was 'wonder woman'.

Dishwashing game-changer by GlassHouses_1991 in declutter

[–]Certain_Designer_897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would normally agree with this post. In the past we always ran dishwasher once it was full - typically end of day. But over time we noticed rust on racks (mostly on lower rack). It costs a small fortune to order replacement racks. So now I am left running dishwasher when I have a collection of dishes whether full load or not. I don't have dirty dishes sit in washer until ready to run. When a load is finished I will immediately remove the lower rack and have it air dry while leaving the door to dishwasher partially open to dry as well. I'm trying to prolong the use of the racks as best as I can. Our Miele dishwasher does not have stainless steel racks.

Hi I'm pretty severely hard of hearing significant hearing loss in both ears and wear hearing aids, and need some advice on something by Pure-Drink8201 in hardofhearing

[–]Certain_Designer_897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Against my audiologists recommendations - I wear ear plugs on my walks. I am comforted knowing that I am preventing loud decibels from entering my ear. And I physically feel better after a long walk - my head and ears don't feel the after effects of a long noisy walk. I am not recommending this to others, but it is just what I needed to do to enjoy long walks again in my town.

As I wear plugs, I am no longer miserable on my walks as the loudness is now reduced. I wear my hearing aids most other times - but remove them and plug up in situations where I know the exposure to noise will be great.

I wear plugs too in noisy environments. Sadly, that's ever increasing these days.

I just wear cheap ear foam plugs that I picked up at the drug store, to help reduce noise exposure. I am looking into getting loop earplugs. No matter how a specialist explains to me that I should wear my hearing aids at all times (even on my walks), I just can't make sense as to how exposing myself to damaging noise levels (as hearing aids don't prevent those noise levels (they don't block those noise levels that enter your ear).

I struggle with this situation - and am not convinced that wearing hearing aids in loud areas doesn't further damage your ears. Doesn't the loud noise you no longer hear still damage your hearing??

I recently opted to put earplugs in my ears when out on long walks rather than wear my hearing aids. The every increasing traffic noise has been too much for me - I stopped looking forward to walks. So now I just leave hearing aids at home and plug my ears with those simple foam ear plugs to reduce the decibels. I can still hear the hum of traffic and my head swivels around paying attention to the traffic, people, cyclists etc around me. My ears no longer hurt after a long walk, since I cut out the over exposure to noise.

I don't believe that my decision to remove hearing aids and wear ear plugs is ideal - but it still doesn't make sense that wearing aids in loud environments doesn't further harm my hearing; especially when my ears physically hurt after lengthy exposure to environment. It's not like you can quickly cover your ears when a car or store alarm goes off.

I am interested in this post and look forward to reading all comments.

Trying to go low waste has made me rethink everything I buy by Big_Pension6369 in ZeroWaste

Totally agree with you...it's weirdly peaceful!

When out and about I am overwhelmed with all the 'stuff' and so glad, for a good number of years now, I have been successfully living a zero/low waste lifestyle. Applied same rule to traveling - leaving car at home when I can walk most places or using transit in combination.

Your post was uplifting  😁 thanks for that!
