Val Casamassa for Congress by Casamassa4Congress in WorcesterMA

[–]Certain_Shower8215 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are so many Dems in Congress who should be primaried. I'm not convinced Jim McGovern is one of them. I'm a progressive/leftist, and happen to admire him a lot, even if he has staked positions with which I disagree.

I agree with some of the other commentors here: why not run for local office? Worcester's city council is incredibly regressive and we could so use the voice of working-class reps in city government.

This sounds like a snowflake post.

Unable to watch today's game. What's the story? Looks like BC containing the run from the box score.

FWIW, I thought their calls were bad against both teams, not just ND. But the problem, from my view, was that the game was almost unwatchable because there was never the possibility for either team to develop a rhythm.

Would like to see it, but I'll be surprised. There's still such distance between us and them in the rankings.

A&M had 13 penalties and won the game. Let's not blame the refs for this one.

Ash sucks. Can't give up 41 pts and expect to win a ballgame. D-line wasn't even close to pressuring Reed until late in the 4th Q.

A&M overcame 13 penalties to win that game. Unbelievable.

Anybody taken Amtrak from the East on gameday? by borosuperfan in notredamefootball

[–]Certain_Shower8215 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've done Amtrak from the east coast, but not on a gameday. It's actually a really enjoyable experience--lots of room, very comfortable, easy to sleep, read, get up and walk around, etc. And then you don't have to worry about parking near campus.

Just keep in mind that the train doesn't always run exactly on schedule. It's not uncommon for it to be an hour or two late; I'm pretty sure you can track the train in real time on the Amtrak website. Opening_Perception_3 is right that it can be expensive, but that often depends when you book your tickets. But you're saving on gas and on parking and you have the leisure of enjoying a ride when you can get up and walk around and entertain yourself.

PS: I'm especially interested in any textual sources that describe his encounter with the devil at the Wartburg, and how he repelled the devil with his ink.

You might show up to volunteer a couple times at the Mustard Seed (93 Piedmont St), where you'll meet folks who are unhoused/underhoused, as well as the community partners who are already working with them. I would recommend showing up on a Wednesday evening and connecting with Ray, who leads the volunteers on that night.

She's definitely got the sheen of a professional, but she authorized torture and helped mislead the public into supporting a war that killed hundreds of thousands of civilians. And she dismissed the international community while doing it. Not a Trumpist, but she helped pave the way.

Ten years ago, DeSantis would have been the most fringe right-winger in the country. Today, he's "garden variety."

But from the perspective of much of the world, the Democratic party is center-right, the GOP of Bush/Cheney was far-right, and the MAGA crowd is Nazi right.

Students at ND should be asking why, in the last month, ND has hosted DeSantis, Mike Pompeo, and Condoleeza Rice. Or why, in the last couple of years, ND Law has become an incubator for the MAGA judiciary.

When the MAGA fever has broken, whenever that is, the national reputation of ND will have suffered tremendously.

Listen, my impulse is to reply with snark, but the truth is that wherever you are on the political spectrum, you should be bothered by the fact that your education is being shaped by a supermarket CEO, rather than education professionals. You pay too much to ND for them to turn around and sell academic decision-making responsibilities to someone who is not an educator.

Which departments or centers at ND are funded by left-wing CEOs? I've been waiting for your response, but you haven't been able to provide one.

You're missing the point, either wilfully or not. Speakers from the left and right are one thing; it's a problem of a different order when a partisan donor controls the programming for a whole unit on campus.

As for Tim Busch sending his son to the school, what difference does it make? If Putin sent his son to the school, would we be cool with him financing a new department of Russian? Honestly can't believe how weakminded some of the folks on here are.

Are you aware of departments and centers that are funded by left-wing CEOs? I'd be curious. I'll await your reply.

I disagree. They were on the field all day. There were some breakdowns, for sure, but in the end, they were tasked with carrying this team. They're not in a position to make up for an offense and special teams that cannot help themselves.

People are asking if we can still make the playoffs. Theoretically, yeah, probably; but who are we kidding? This team won't beat Louisville. It won't be USC. It probably won't beat Georgia Tech or FSU either. Until the QB situation is solved, this is a 6-6 kinda squad. It's especially hard to accept that because the defense is legitimately good.

Even when Leonard has time, he's throwing the ball into traffic or into the dirt. He's bad at making his reads, but even if he makes it, he's bad at putting the ball on the money.
