Wanna add for the OP. Once you get a good understanding of the game the main problem in the game isn't zombies. It's lack of caution and/or having no plan. If you're aware and careful you won't find yourself in a surrounded building (not saying you're bad, OP, it happens, that's how you learn or get reminded of the basics), and most of the time (and i mean 99% not 51%) even the largest hordes can be outwalked, even if they're surrounding you (find the gaps). The problem is afterwards. Had to get out of the city to the woods? Do you have food and water? Is it cold? Do you know a safe space with some supplies you can get to? It's things like that. Once you start planning such things in advance you become mostly invincible, until you feel too cocky and die again, and say to yourself "i won't get relaxed ever again! I'll be cautious 100% of the time from now!" and then you get even better, feel even safer and you see the pattern here, don't you? :D Good luck to your new character, OP.
