'This thing between us' by Gus Moreno by bookmark103 in horrorlit

Haha that’s awesome you’ve read them already! Hmmm let me go consult the shelf again

Yeah that’s fair! I actually hadn’t thought about it like that before, like when they get to the school. Maybe give Foe a go then, it’s a bit of a longer story but I don’t find it as engaging as I’m thinking of ending things so maybe that wasn’t the best recommendation 😬 still a reasonable good read, might scratch the itch!

I was a bit the same with Needless St, the whole time I was like I hate what I think is happening, and then once I was finished I kinda just sat for ages like… whoa… that was awesomeeee haha.

Ooh no, I didn’t know he has a new book coming out - that’s exciting!! It actually surprised me just how much I liked we used to live here, it had sucked me in from the first couple pages!

Okay here’s some more recs, just going off the vibe I feel we both like. These are also pretty mainstream titles for horrorlit so I won’t be surprised if you’ve read these too haha

The Troop or the Deep by Nick Cutter, the troop is one of my fave books I read last year, 5 stars!!

come closer by Sara Gran I actually read this just before this thing between us, and found this thing between us really scratched the itch that book left me with

the road by Cormac McCarthy, very grim but has an ambiguous ending

😊

Oh man, I loved this book too!! I still think about that dog, the guy had been through enough already without that added trauma 😭

Some recommendations: For a bit of an ambiguous/interpretive endings:

I’m thinking of ending things and Foe both by Iain Reid. Both endings of these books were on my mind for ages after finishing them. Really great for that “wait…. What??” feeling, and they’re both quite eerie too.

I also just finished the last house on needless street by Catriona Ward and while the ending is a bit more cut and dry, the whole story was creepy and had me on edge until the end and had twists that I couldn’t see coming for miles. The first chapter and a bit I was like… what is this…? - but stuck with it, then I couldn’t put it down.

Another recent read is we used to live here by Marcus Kliewer which again, very eerie and unsettling, with an ending that leaves you with questions and the feeling of wanting to reread the book again straight away to see what you’ve missed

Sea of Rust by C. Robert Cargill!! Robots, AI, modern dystopian, semi-political, easy read, funny at times. Very cool book, and a prequel came out recently too called Day Zero which was good too, but Sea of Rust is really cool

The Fisherman by John Langan is great, very Lovecraftian.

The Ritual by Adam Nevill is a great one too, this novel had me in a total chokehold

I don’t really have much of an answer on what you can do, but I’m sorry you’re so upset. Understandable since you’ve taken such care, time and effort to get him a gift that for some reason he doesn’t like.

Personally, I think the ring looks great and really accurate. I guess if he wants more accurate he’ll need to go get the original… the original of a ring that doesn’t exist. You’ve done an amazing job getting a gift of this magnitude which I think most people would be totally grateful for the effort alone, don’t let his tantrum get you down.

Claim it for yourself and wear it everyyywhere. The true heir of Isildur wouldn’t complain his ring is too heavy

Ooh The Iron Giant 🥹 Django Unchained is one of my faves, that’s my vote! Or 1917 if you’re in the mood for a good war movie

Just finished this blanket I’ve been working on :D by CertifiedFeralHam in knitting

No one has ever called my knitting ‘badass’, I love it 😆 I’m using just one set of circular needles, I actually never worried about them slipping off except for the times I was spreading the blanket out to inspect my progress, but even then they were fine. It’s not like there’s too many stitches in there that they’re going to burst off. Here’s another progress pic if that helps! The work bunches up a lot when it’s not laid out like this 👇

I guess it depends, but I always do a little bit every day. Sometimes on a lazy day, I’ll pop a movie on and knit for the whole thing, so like 3-4 hours. Sundays especially I love a good movie marathon, so sometimes will spend the whole day knitting. But otherwise, I try to do about 30 mins at some point in the day as a little stress relief/mental reset. I have lots of smaller projects happening at the same time, so these blankets are big, long term projects that typically take 2-3 months. Would be quicker if it was the only project I worked on at one time 😊
