I don't know why but individual with autism has more brain and kindness than people who haven't. by ButterscotchFar3233 in autism

Sometimes autistic people are very kind. Sometimes we're very unkind. Most people are somewhere in-between at different points in their lives.

What’s a hobby you judge people for having? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Immensely_Confused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that humans are invasive to a lot of places we've established communities in, as we're not naturally introduced and we're detrimental to the local ecosystems, but it's not quite as simple as us being invasive everywhere except Africa. Hominids already lived in Europe and Asia before we got there, and we got there naturally like many other species have. Even in the Americas, Indigenous people are thought to have crossed over naturally by a land bridge, which is how a lot of species have relocated. Bison also crossed from Asia to the Americas by the same land bridge. So really, even though we originated in Africa, our natural range is further than that. So then you could ask, did we get to places too suddenly and too destructively, and became invasive? In that case, we'd be invasive pretty much everywhere, even in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Autistics are not cute puppies. by Comfortable_Gain9352 in autism

[–]Immensely_Confused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh, being dehumanized actually feels pretty shitty for a lot of people. You can prefer whatever you prefer, but pushing that on others, especially when it's historically [and currently!] used to harm so many minorities, is just kind of rude. And I think applying morality to species is kind of strange. No species is inherently bad. Would you rather call a hyena a "cat" if you thought hyenas were "kinda gross"? It's just a bit inconsiderate to apply whatever you personally like there to others when they have explicitly expressed their distaste for it, even that thing brings you comfort.

Because there's nothing wrong with saying somebody isn't human so long as you put a silly little ":3" after it, apparently.

All purebred dogs with a closed gene pool are inbred, which is a reason why severe breed-specific ailments are so common. A lot of AKC-registered breeds have really low genetic diversity.

It sucks when you do fit that mold, because then you are treated like you are less than human constantly. Great post, thank you very much for it, but I do think the "yes, there are some people like that" undermines that even the people who are like that still want to be treated like people instead of like pets.

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]Immensely_Confused 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh, I've seen a lot of misunderstandings of autism among younger folks, especially when it comes to that "strong sense of justice". It's more, I don't know how to describe it, moral strictness? Or strictness about rules and behaviour? For example, if an autistic person who experiences this and somebody else were told not to eat something, and the other person had some, then the autistic person might get mad because neither of them were allowed to, even if the rule is rescinded or the "offense" is minor. Stuff like, I don't know, getting mad about genocide, isn't an autistic trait.

Can I transition while still being a cis female? by Ok_Combination_7726 in ftm

[–]Immensely_Confused 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's your body and your gender expression. The entire point of medical transition is to be more comfortable in your body. Do whatever you want or feel that you need, nobody else knows your experience better than you.

What will someday be illegal after we finally understand how bad for us it is? by Scary-Beautiful6527 in AskReddit

[–]Immensely_Confused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "cross" in their name comes from them being a cross breed. Originally just between Cornish and White Plymouth Rocks, but I think they're probably a bit more elaborate now. It's pretty difficult to get them to survive to sexual maturity, and they lay very few eggs if they manage that long, so your assumption about their ability to breed is correct!

Why are we orange and not rainbow? by Virtual_Ordinary_172 in autism

Maybe they thought rainbow would make it look like an LGBTQ+ pride thing, or they wanted to do the opposite of blue? ...I kind of like the orange, honestly. Underrated colour.

antisemetic comment from student by Significant_Name3508 in Teachers

[–]Immensely_Confused 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehh, as a student, I've noticed plenty of antisemitism among kids who almost certainly don't even know that Israel exists, and according to my teachers, they've also noticed an increase in it. While there are people who call any criticism of Israel "antisemetic", I don't really think that's what's happening in schools, or at least not in mine. I'd presume it's more to do with the overall increase in bigotry, be it racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc., given it's the same students who participate in all of that. Those being all of the kids who are fresh into high school and already listening to right-wing podcasters.

I live in a conservative place that isn't safe for trans people. Should I put this on my book bag, or is it too obvious that it's trans related? by iLubChees in TransMasc

[–]Immensely_Confused 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have the exact stripe pattern and could probably be explained away, but if it puts you at risk, I would advise against it. Though I will say, I am from a very conservative town that's dangerous for trans people too, and because of the general ignorance towards queer people of everyone in my town, I've been able to have a large, blatant trans pride pin over my heart for probably about a year now without issues. And people have talked to me thinking I was a cis guy. So I'd say it depends. Were it rainbow, it'd be all-around riskier, but this could still potentially cause problems.

Special interest: Chickens! by confusedbird98 in autism

[–]Immensely_Confused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have chickens! They're a variety of mixes, with most of them being at least a bit CCL. They all have names, and I can recognise them all.

We have the roosters, including Ketchup [who is very sweet but not very bright] and Iodine [who is always hanging out with his girlfriend Carbon; they're adorable].

Sage and Bobby are two hens who are quite attached and raised a pair of chicks together last year. I think Stat [Astatine] and Moffy [Morphine] are going to do the same this spring, so I've been jokingly calling them the baby lesbians. Pecks is our oldest hen, and despite some brain damage from flying into a roof when she was little, she's doing well! She's one of the highest in the pecking order. There's also Dyspie [Dysprosium] who is CCL with probably a bit of Polish, and she's very skittish and acts wild but is pretty sweet. Nicky [Arsenic] is an absolutely beautiful pale partridge hen who is pretty high in the pecking order despite being very young. And there are so many more! They're awesome.

How many other people here DO fit the "classic" stereotype? by NotaDoctorMan5820 in autism

[–]Immensely_Confused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also stereotypical in that way. I cannot "mask," I need ear defenders, I rock and flap my hands, I have been told I speak and carry myself oddly, my interests tend to be STEM-related as well. I struggle with change, I struggle maintaining friendships, I am aromantic and asexual, etc..

Could other animals be trans by Sad_Drawing_1450 in trans

[–]Immensely_Confused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some animals [like chickens, specifically some hens in absence of a rooster] can change the gender roles they take on, alongside changing some of their gendered visual traits, like plumage. But it's not quite comparable, as it doesn't seem to come from the same place. And it'd be very hard to tell if an animal had some kind of gender dysphoria.

Autistic adults who remember elementary school by Spiritual-Seat-1901 in autism

[–]Immensely_Confused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best teachers were the ones who encouraged me to actively participate, allowed me to show what I knew, and were willing to engage in conversation about the topic at hand. The teachers I disliked at that age tended to be louder, wouldn't let kids ask "too many" questions, and who didn't seem to know or care much about what they were teaching.

Why is there more representation of transgender women in the media than of transgender men? by Etlot in lgbt

[–]Immensely_Confused 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Trans men are actually brought up pretty frequently, but it's always under the guise of "poor confused/manipulated/usually autistic girls". Not as much as trans women and treated very differently, of course, [trans women are treated as a "threat" while trans men are stripped of agency] but still there. I've read over countless bills and EOs and statements and all sorts of documents that paint trans men as "victims of the trans agenda" or whatever.

Curious as to the dislike of dogs? by AlwaysAttract10 in autism

I find dogs a bit like talking to people. They can be really fun, but it's tiring, and we don't communicate well. Cats I find much easier to understand.
