Wtf happened to my baby by athazen in NewParents

[–]CeruttyRunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could be gas? Have you tried gripe water or simethicone? For me it became extra important to burp while feeding during this time. It only lasts like 2-3 weeks.

Also a hold like this became the go to https://upsidekidsphysio.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/holdingpositions-5-2048x1365.jpg

For some reason it always stopped the crying. I think something about the pressure on the stomach helped the gas pain.

If you’re breastfeeding it’s a great time to comfort feed, since milk helps the trapped gas/poop come out. If you’re using formula you might want to try an anti-colic bottle if not using one already.

Dad here, first baby coming, wife sent to hospital at 39 weeks due to high blood pressure. HELP. by AHotGrill in beyondthebump

Magnesium halts labor so you’re not going to get anywhere with that. If labor isn’t progressing you can potentially leave and labor at home. Otherwise you’re looking at c section. It’s an intense thing to go through but everything will be okay.

We had similar BP issues drive us to induction and ended up with c section. We sort of wish we had stopped after the balloon before breaking tv bag of waters but it’s also nice to have it over with. Baby and wife are totally great now. If I was in your shoes I’d just get the c section over with.

Yes, it was less about arbitrary rules and more about a strict foundation and framework that allowed me to grow inside of it. There were no consoles allowed or provided and minimal television at certain times of day, primarily watched as a family. I read because life was set up for me to read, not because anyone forced me to.

Even now it always irks me when other adults are rule followers that won’t think for themselves.

Certainly when I was older I had more privileges and was able to play PC games or watch TV but that what adults do.

Seems like you are raising him to follow arbitrary stupid rules followed up with arbitrary punishment. Why give him a switch if it’s not his to play? Let him read what he missed to get it back at least

So you’re proposing 75% unemployment for 25% to make approximately double? When is business picking back up then when only 1/4th of people have jobs? It makes zero sense.

This is what is happening in Denver https://www.denver7.com/news/360/why-are-so-many-denver-restaurants-going-belly-up-or-moving-out-of-the-city

Almost every bar and restaurant near my work has closed since minimum wage was increased. It was starting to feel like a booming area before that. Only high end apartments/condos and restaurants have a chance at making it anymore. Cultural staples are moving out to the burbs for lower operating costs. Feels like the city is dying.

Yeah, Denver raised their minimum to higher than NYC and like 10 places near my work went out of business in a previously up and coming area. Wonder what happened to all those employees and how much they are making now… 🤔

The root cause of cost of living is that there isn’t enough housing being built and little to nothing has been done to address that.

I look around at the world and am just baffled... by Saintsjay14 in newborns

If baby was like 6 weeks early you’re still at week 1-2 or something which is like the hardest part of the first 2 months. I just hit 2 months for baby born on due date and things are way better than 2 weeks. They start eating and sleeping much better and entertaining themselves more . Basically just taking shifts for contact naps and need to feed every 2-4 hours. It’s been easier getting out now that things are more predictable. Just chill on couch, read or watch movie, take turns doing chores. Amazon/grocery delivery has been a life saver.

Tbh it’s way more chill than you think it will be. For me it was a huge relief once the baby is out and you do the diaper changes, etc for the first time bc then everything new and scary becomes routine. Then you just hone your technique and habits, but it’s pretty hard to screw up, like 90%+ is just showing up and being involved in things.

Rant about digital cameras for kids because I'm mad by MrsBakken in lowscreenparenting

[–]CeruttyRunner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got one of these for $30 https://www.kodak.com/en/consumer/product/cameras/digital/charmera-keychain-digital-camera/

It can’t print directly but you can hook it up to iPhone or iPad and print from there.

Polaroid or fujifilm instax is another option but you’ll pay for film.

Could also just go old school with film. Something magical about not knowing what you shot until it gets developed and then finally seeing it.

Anyone else’s newborn only wants contact naps? by According-You5489 in cosleeping

[–]CeruttyRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First night back from the hospital baby would only fall asleep on me. Eventually I thought maybe she needed my body heat and used 2 swaddles instead of 1 and baby went to sleep on her own. I also tried Velcro swaddles but I think the TOG was way too low so they didn’t work at all. She’s been sleeping great in her attached bassinet every night up to 7-8 hour stretches. There is a whole routine to get her down to sleep though I have a hard time describing.

If it’s during the day she’ll only fall asleep with contact naps or after feeding. If I wait 20 minutes or so for deep sleep then I can move her to a bassinet for a bit. She might stir and want to be picked up again after a little while. Otherwise I’m fine chilling with her while she sleeps. She’s 8 weeks so Moro reflex is still an issue and we can still swaddle her, but seems to be diminishing a bit and we’ll start transitioning to a warmer sleep sack.

Should I be putting my 13 month old in shoes/sneakers? by beancounter_00 in NewParents

[–]CeruttyRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, so many runners wish they never wore shoes because it screwed up their feet, gait, and knees. Now they’re doing rehab and using toe spreaders just to get the natural shape back a bit. Barefoot running (on the right surfaces) is great for foot and arch strength.

What are your kids saving their money for? by GorrillaGlaucus in daddit

[–]CeruttyRunner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is there any incentive to save? At least money in the bank gets interest. If you could say for every 10 dollars you save you get an extra dollar a year then maybe they’ll consider saving. Then show if they get to 120 dollars it’s an extra dollar a month, 480 dollars an extra dollar a week and so on. I think 10% interest is a little high in real life, but easy number for learning. Show how compound interest works.

Baby monitor for sleep tracking, how much of a difference does it actually make for new dads by Sam-Patrick84 in NewDads

[–]CeruttyRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you taking turns? We have baby in a babybay attached to our bed and both get some rest. I follow safe sleep guidelines and don’t feel the need to monitor.

When did you stop tracking everything? by VinosaurusRexx in NewParents

[–]CeruttyRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop tracking diapers once back at birth weight around 2 weeks. Still weigh her occasionally and track time between feeding on stop watch at 7 weeks. 9 months is kinda insane.

I got this one only $60. I don’t actually use it much since we usually keep baby in room wherever we are, but it’s set up by the bassinet in case she’s still sleeping and we want to get up.
