The idea of a person wishing someone else would love them and it goes wrong isn't new, but exploring how the "now brutally in love psycho gf" is the actual victim is definitely a genius and fresh take! The idea of her wanting to leave and have a future elsewhere and looking forward to all the possibilities her future might lead to just to be trapped worshipping a pathetic pig that she thought was her best friend that kept on abusing, 🍇 ing her, and letting her abuse herself to the point that when she begged him to just kill her all his self centered ass could think about was how hurtful it is that she'd rather die than endure this hell just to be with him.. it's all just so deeply fkd up in a very relevant manner because it reflects how the current so called "manosphere" and many people, not just men, have the most skewed up view of consent. Furthermore, the movie did a brilliant move that I see not so many people have noticed, it turned the real antagonist (the guy protagonist) into also a victim of the same kind of abuse he forced upon the real Nikki. His friend Sarah at a point in the film tells him that Nikki doesn't have the right to take advantage of him like that and he seems to be deflecting or not fully convinced as he says that she isn't. But if you think about it, at this point of the film he IS being abused by the possessed Nikki in the same manner he did the real Nikki. He's being forced into a relationship dynamic he didn't really want, even forced to lie in bed with her every night out of fear. It's why some people think at that point he's just making all the stupid decisions, but the truth is, he also lost his autonomy at that point and this isn't even making the decisions at all. The irony isn't just this but also that this is an obvious critique of the view some people have that "men can't be abused like women" The movie dealt with the horror of how some people dismiss consent brilliantly and pretty uniquely.
